John says that prophecy was fulfilled by the soldiers who pierced him (Jn 19:36-37).
Outside your own unsure interpretation of prophetic riddles, where is there Biblical warrant
for a second fulfillment?
All agree that Jesus was pierced in the past. This was fulfilled, we all agree on that.
Jesus is referred to by many names. One of them is "the One who they pierced". When we see this term used we know it is referring to Jesus, because He was the One pierced. Instead of calling Him Jesus, He is referred to in some scriptures as "the One who they pierced" - it's a way He is identified.
Confusion arises when one takes the word "pierced" and assumes that entire scripture is speaking of the crucifixion. Then in associating the word with a past event one says that the entire scripture has been fulfilled, not seeing that the scripture in question is not talking about the past crucifixion at all, it is talking about a future event.
Zech 12:10: “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on
Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for
his only
son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn"
This scripture is not speaking of Christ's crucifixion, it's talking about the last days. Zech 12:10 has not yet been fulfilled. It's one of the preconditions of Christ's second coming.
Matthew 23:37-39: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under
her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you,
you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ "
Hosea 5:15: "I will go and return to My place Till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”
Before there can be a cleansing of Israel's sins, and before there can be a Second Coming, Israel must first look to the one they have pierced and mourn for Him as a person that mourns for their only son. As I quoted in Matthew 23, before Jesus will come back, Israel must plead for Him to return, with the words
"Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord" (the confession first and then the plea for His return). They will not see Him until these two things happen. They will come to realize what they have done, that they rejected Jesus.
Just like the Jewish leaders once led all to reject Jesus, the leaders will some day lead many Jews to the acceptance of Jesus.
Hosea 6:1-3: Come, and let us return to the Lord; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.
After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight. Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter
and former rain to the earth"
