Im an Athiest and wonder why so many girls insist you be the same religion as them or they will break up with ya? I never dated but i heard it from friends and other sources.

Because what they believe means more than any other relationship.
My relationship with Jesus means so much to me that I would rather stay single then live with someone who does not share my love and passion of Christ.

Yea I agree, as a christian my beliefs are part of who I am in every way. If the other person doesn't believe as I do it can cause alot of friction. As well, the bible tell us "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14

I have to say I find it kinda funny that when a question about why girls act in a certain way or think a certain way, comes up, the only ones who have answered are guys!! hahhaha (And now here I am, a married woman....but at least I'm a girl! Oh well....) But, with that said I have to also say, I agree with Narn and Merodic (and even MahoganySnail to some extent!! hahhaa) but it's not always about RELIGION as much as FAITH, and BELEIF. Let me explain if I can...... see, for me, I beleive in Jesus, and you being an athiest, well....I may not be right to think this way, but I'd just...withdraw from a relationship with you because of an unwillingness to be in love with someone who wouldn't worship the Lord. That doesn't mean I wouldn't love you as a brother..but I'd just not feel....completed with someone who doesn't love the Lord as I do. As for RELIGION.....well, all I can say is that the reasons may vary......some people may not want to switch religions for their partners, nor want to get their partners to switch religions for them, and going to two different churches can be ....hard, to say the least. There is also, for some, a very true discord on doctrine, beleifs, etc. I think for you, being athiest, many girls may feel much the same as I do.....I wish there were magic words I could use to make you understand the importance of beleif and faith.....I simple love the Lord, and wish you would to. God Bless........

Its a pretty general question

Dating someone with a different relegion than your own has the potential to create alot of conflict...

I wouldn't date someone with a different religion... basically because when it comes to our Lords love... I cant imagine NOT sharing it with my future-husband... When God is such a big part of your life I think your partner wil either become jealous and fight for your affection. And personally I would want to date someone who loves God more than he does me! =)

Just my 2cents.. or is it pennies?

Its a pretty general question

Oh my goodness!!! I'm sorry!! YES, of course it is!! I was just surprised more gals hadn't offered some answers!! I thought it "hahaha funny" not "odd" or "bad" "funny"!! hahaha and now that I've comepletely put the egg on my face........... **exits stage right....

I would never date someone who was not Christian simply because my faith in Jesus Christ is the most significant part of me! I want Christ to be the centre of any relationship I have. There is no greater joy than knowing that you are able to share the incredible faith you have with your significant other. Also, because Christianity does contribute to every area of my life it means that my morals, decisions and life in general are lived in accordance with Biblical truth. To separate the two would be crazy to me. I want a Godly man who will build me up in my faith, pray with/for me, stand in the gap for me if things are tough and be the Godly head of the home.
Anyway, that is just me, but I think if I were to marry outside of this, either I would fall away from Christianity altogether or there would be great conflict or sadness at some of the views/experiences my husband cant/doesnt share with me.

Yeah, it's really an issue of overall compatibility. If you are of different religions, then it probably means you disagree on very basic, foundational issues. Those may not be a big issue when you're dating, but when it comes to getting serious, and then considering raising a family or yoking yourself to that person for the rest of your life, those big differences between you become even more significant, and make the relationship that much more difficult.

That being said, we should all remember that love is ridiculous. Sometimes we fall in love with someone unexpected, someone who is very different from us. Sometimes opposites really do attract.

I became a Christian a little over a year ago. My life has changed so much because I have God in my life. I have nothing against men who are not Christians but I feel God wants me to marry a christian man. I want to date a guy that I can talk about God with, and pray with. Later after getting to know the person if we get married I would want my husband to be the spiritual leader of our household. I am speaking for myself as a Christian women another reason I do not want to date a man who is not a Christian is because I want to get to know the person for who they are and not base the relationship on sex.

because god says either your with me or against me theirs no in between so either u walk with jesus or u dont and its hard enough to find a mate as it is and once we have jesus in comon i have a spiritual friend 4 life.

It doesn't bother me dating someone with a different religion. The way I look at it, we just have our different ways of worshiping God. The only thing that matters is to respect each others belief.

Because in the Bible, we are not supposed to date or marry someone who is not a believer. It's called "unequally yoked."
