Dear Christian brothers,
I have a prayer request, and I believe this to be of great importance.the month of October is coming to an end.In a few days,a festival called Halloween will be celebrated in the West on the 31st of October. This also coincides
with a festival called Samhain, celebrated by real witches and pagans.however, some Christians 'celebrate' this occult festival by hosting Halloween-themed parties and giving treats to children who say 'trick or treat' by knocking on people's doors. Please pray that these pagan practices may be come to an end and that people may accept Jesus as the true Lord and Savior.

Yours in Christ,
Roshan K

There are many on this website that will scorn you for having any conviction at all, but I appreciate your conviction.

I'm afraid I did not comprehend what you meant regarding conviction.Would you kindly elaborate on that point? Also,if my words have caused any offence, then I humbly apologize.

The Bible talks about rebellion being like witchcraft. This can be as simple as co-existing the Law as rebellion against God and in its essence being mesmerized by your own self-seeking power. The point I'm trying to make is that people celebrating Halloween isn't the issue. Easter is a Pagan tradition, celebrating new life within the chaotic and volatile state of nature— someone practicing witchcraft in effect is no different to someone following the Law of Moses (Galatians 3:1), so we all have this bit of heresy within us which tends to be purged out by the revelation that we are the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21).

I say this because I don't think this really deserves its own thread.
Christianity tends to have religious values in opposition to magic and anything that celebrates witchcraft. The world doesn't follow this system— some people want to do Halloween, other's don't. Making people stop Halloween doesn't bring them to the recognition that they are the righteousness of God... and to be completely honest with you getting people to pray on Christian Chat dot com isn't going to cause the entire festival to dissipate into nothing. I know you don't like Halloween, so don't do Halloween.

You could put the same argument forth about Superman— kids everywhere are "mimicing this godlike saviour who can fly and defy laws on the earth that God has set in place" but nobody bats an eyelid. But the moment a child starts pretending he's Harry Potter all the Christians flock to it and begin to trash about making mammal-like noises. Even as I said before, Easter is a pagan tradition, it's just that Christian's adopted it to advance Christ but because society doesn't portray it by it's origins people like you don't seem to care about it but will not be happy at all with something like Halloween because of its modern standard.

If you really want to make a difference, I suggest you hand out flyers with your "treats" and tell kids about how much Jesus loves them, and how He wants to live inside them, and how they're so precious to him. Go out and love on some people dressing up, tell them that they're beautiful and God thinks they're amazing. Don't try to get them to stop doing what they enjoy, because it's not even necessarily an evil root that needs to be addressed— but He has handed us the message of reconciliation, that He is not counting the world's messed up state against them but sent his Son to die as an expression of His love. That's where your concerns should be; not with our opinions, agreements and prayers towards the state of a world that is hostile to God's very nature anyway.

I like your post. I think it is good that you believe strongly. There are many people on CC who will not like it. I know Elizabeth619 will not like it, she makes many posts about this subject.

I think Christians should be more skeptical about following every breeze that blows.

And you're scorned if you have no conviction about it. Either way people will impose their views on others and feel they are justified to determine they're justified in scorning.

I don't think we should be afraid to ask critical questions. I don't think it's good to imitate evil, but maybe you do. Dressing up as firemen, princesses, etc isn't a problem.

Just so we're clear, my post was not scorning. Just encouragement to be more concerned with what can be done to bring people to closer knowledge of their acceptance and love in Christ as opposed to being only occupied with the world operating as it always has. It's nothing new. Of course that's just my opinion, but this is christianchat, right? In my experience with the site it's more about the arguments, never have I seen a thread with people just talking about how beautiful Jesus is. This place is a warzone before it's a forum, before it's a place of grace and fellowship.

Point proven.
I didn't even give my opinion on this topic.

Worst time to come on this site is near a holiday. The number of threads people create feeling the need to point out the pagan roots of a holiday explodes. They all say the same thing. And never accomplish anything because there's usually a level of hypocrisy behind this mentality due to there being pagan roots in things all around us that is never even given consideration. If you don't like the idea of celebrating, fine. But the bible makes it clear that your conviction doesn't always mean it is the only option. These posts do nothing but encourage disagreement and judgment while reflecting a need to make others believe how you believe.

One thing I never have understood is why churches have halloween parties. Many do that around here

You have on multiple other threads. I suppose I should hit the reset button on my memory everytime a new thread is made?
Actually what I've said is there are many pagan things others participate in but seem to think holidays are the only evil thing. I've also stated that my son doesn't even go trick or treating.

I don't see you as scorning. Some can be against something and try to helps others out of love. Which is good. Others just like to point fingers bc they feel it makes them more righteous. Those are the snakes to watch for.

I went to a Southern Baptist church for awhile, and I found it funny when at their halloween party the pastor said, "this isn't about dark evil satanic stuff, or imitating evil, it's just about fun!"

... Standing next to a girl dressed as a witch, standing next to a window sticker of witches and demons. like srsly bro

Rosh, You are correct that Halloween is contrary to everything God says is righteous. Righteousness means practicing, doing what is Right in our Heavenly Fathers eyes. The Bible is clear about how God feels about violence, immoral sex and Satan himself. Since this is a Christian dominant country, it does make one wonder what they are thinking that Halloween and pagan holidays in general are so commercially popular. There are people who call themselves Christians and they don't make the connection between God hates immorality and that Halloween is an observance of everything that Satan loves and God abhors. You don't see children dressed as Jesus walking down the street with a cross, or dressed as God. But they dress as Satan, murders (Jason, Freddy Kruger, etc.) vampires, dead people with knives and axes and blood...forget that some will remind us of the cute ladybug or princes. Satan doesn't care as long as people participate and go against what God likes.

The point is, that Halloween is not something a Christian who worships the God of the Bible would celebrate or participate in. A Christian who loves God would show no love or interest for the things that originate from Satan's own inspiration. If we are supposed to hate what God hates (not the persons, but the behavior) then wouldn't we want to keep our worship clean and separate from worship or celebrations that honor Satan?

Christians that insist it's no big deal...it's just fun, and it's not about witchcraft when they do it. They are fooling themselves and compromising any relationship with God. If we blend in with the world by doing what the world is doing then we are part of it and not separate as Christ said we would be. Christ would have never participated in such a celebration, why would we?

I don't think the world (or Christians) are ready for some things.
50 years ago electric guitars and drums were outlawed in the church. Just give it some time, and time for yourself as well. We can't expect more understanding than what our current generation supplies.

I will admit its HARD for me not to completely dive into halloween. I used to be into the gore and blood, zombies and all that stuff but even when I was deep into the holiday I did feel it was odd to have church halloween parties.
When I was little my church did a haunted house. The elders threw a fit.

Instruments still aren't allowed in my church lol

My law radars just went through the roof.

2 Cor 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Romans 5:18-19
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Obedience of who?
..one man.

Come on, say it with me.
...the obedience of... one man...

You can say it a little louder.
"The obedience of one man."

How many?
One man.

I still can't hear you!
by the Obedience of ONE MAN shall many be made righteous and the free gift shall come upon all men.

Case closed.
