As someone in the singles forum stated some time ago, the most searched term on this website is "sex". Now, as I myself have noticed, there have been several occasions of young men on here begging questions like "Is masturbation sinful?" "Is it wrong to masturbate?" things of that nature. Tonight, I am cutting through the crap. There are obviously many different and disagreeing ideas as far as answers go. When someone asks these questions on a forum like this, there are more questions than answers. So again, to cut through all the crap, and get to a point where we no longer have to ask those questions and not have to deal with the technicalities of the biblical view point which can cause confusion.

A video was posted on YouTube dealing with the effects and science behind a porn addiction (which can also relate to a masturbation addiction). A porn or sex addiction has the exact same effect on the mind as a drug addiction. When we experience moments of extreme pleasure (such as a self given orgasm), it unleashes a chemical in the brain called dopamine. The more this chemical is released, the more likely it is that some of this chemical can end up spilling out, and be lost, which causes desensitization. At once, because so much pleasure is being released at once, when there is no one there to share this experience with, or there is no sense of intimacy (such in the case of a one night stand), when the chemical releases, and there is nothing there to stimulate your positive senses it leads to depression, and a greater need for the next time around looking for something new, more intense, more arousing. In short, we can truly, and honestly say, pornography rapes the mind. I can't explain the whole thing in fully but search for the science of internet porn on youtube and watch the short video, and it will be worth it.

That being said, I make this proposal I have seen shared by another website. You know No-shave November? I propose, the eloquently titled "No-Fap" November. It's time to take off your holier than though righteous attitudes. The fact is there are people on here who have/do struggle with sexual addiction and are bold enough to admit it. And I have no doubt there are others who have built up such a "christiany" persona here that, though they may not admit it, also deal with the same kind of addiction. So starting tomorrow, Nov. 1st, even if we don't think it's something we can give up, let's make it through one single month together. One month, no porn, no fapping, just Jesus. The time to stand as brothers together, is now. Most of us guys on here are single, and may have plans to be married, or married again, in which case, God has set aside one of his princesses for us, and they deserve our purity and devotion, even if we have not met them. For those of us who are single, and will very possibly remain that one, let's live a life of purity, and guide these young men to do the same. We are not our own, we were bought with a price, therefore let us honor God with our bodies.

Don't do this alone. Message another brother you can trust, or that you can look up to, and hold each other accountable. One month. Don't fail. Stand strong in Christ. Godspeed.

I do believe the video your talking about is worth posting. That's actually a new field of research. Online porn specifically, has all kinds of damaging effects that nobody knew about (we haven't even had a full generation of this access to an unlimited supply of instant, novel pornography) and it's just now coming to the surface on how damaging it actually is. I highly suggest that if anybody on here is having problems with a pornography addiction to check out the new research on the subject, it's an eye opener

also......Your Brain On Porn | Evolution has not prepared your brain for today's Internet porn

There's an evolutionary slant to most of this research but you see that in basically anything scientifically related these days

I didn't understand some of the terminology you used but these are great posts, concerning a very important but dangerous and paralysing issue.

chatter23, this isn't the thread to pick fights. This is an encouraging, edifying thread about a difficult issue. Please keep it that way. If you have an issue with him, it might be best to PM him or at least take it somewhere besides this thread.

zaoman - To the point, and awesome. I hope and pray that those taking up this challenge may find themselves running to God when they feel that urge, be it because they're lonely or because of lust, or because of any other reason. That they may get down to the root of it and grow stronger in their walk of faith because of it.

Seriously? This guy is trying to reach out to people that has problems, and all you see is a chance to criticize him for a word that won't even get a 2nd grader sent to the office?

Thank you posthuman, and thank you very much Rachel for your encouragement, and of course the rest of you for support.

On an added note, I'm going to try to be in the men's ministry chat as often as I can this month if anyone needs or wants to talk. I'm encouraging you older guys here to do the same. Who knows who'll be there if anyone, but why take the risk missing someone.

Men who have a sexual addictions have a lot of hidden resentment and anger in them, that stirs up the emotions.
Those emotions seek to relieve the stress and they seek the easy way out, they seek instant relief.
The way to overcome this is to overcome the anger that causes the stress. That is the spiritual solution. Cry out to God sincerely and He always answers a sincere cry..
Talk is cheap and is no solution to the problem and this is no c..p.
Talk is cheap.

Finally some useful information! This type of addiction is what lead me into all other kinds of addiction and willful experimentation. Perhaps if I quit fapping I can finally quit smoking and drinking too,..

It's been years since I tried to never commit onanism.
The bigger time I was able to abstain from nude sites and onanism was 4 months !
I was able to do so, because I decided to never have internet access at home,
and I had internet access at public places only.
But when my laptop was robbed by a thug a saturday night, I didn't have a choice, I had to get internet at home again, and right away after I get it at home, I went to nude sites again.

So from my own experience, the best way to never go to nude sites is to never be alone in a room while using internet.
Indeed, internet is like a huge nude sites library. Staying alone with internet in a room when you know you're addicted, it's the same as staying alone in a hotel room with a lot of gorgeous women; in that case, it's just a matter of time you give in to the gorgeous women. I don't know about other men, but please don't mock me, I'm just talking about my own experience. Trust me, it's very hard to be alone for years, and when sometimes you feel terribly sad and lonely...and there's a lot of gorgeous women willing to comfort you on the internet...well...you get the picture...

Sounds good to me.

Come on guys. Time to man up and speak out. This doesn't live long in the light of day and the light of Christ, though I'll admit there have been slip ups for me (just full disclosure).

Anyone looking for someone to talk to, you can PM me or whatever. I'll even let you yell and scream at me if it keeps you from sinning. Hopefully someone else will want to do the same.

Together we can be.. strong.

Why is a 66 year old female complaining in a thread named "for all the struggling men out there" in the "Christian Young Adults Forum"?

"the word, C..p"

I think I'm the older guy, ok, all of November then.

I've looked at porn 2x since I've been born again and both times I had horrible depression all the next day. I think the Holy Spirit doesn't want to be around us when we deliberately engage in sin. For me this is very dangerous because it's God Who keeps me sober...

I find it tends to make our thoughts very very depraved. I wish I could say it's only been twice since I found Christ, but it's a very slayable demon nonetheless. Through Christ of course.

Hmm... okay, thanks. Still seems to me that masturbation and onanism are two different things.

It seems that Onanism implies there is another party involved rather than just a single party.

Dang it.. now I'm hung up on semantics too.

hey brother you dont know me and i understand this might be strange but i have gone i think maybe a month already clean from this it is hard the thought is always there. BUT, you need to remind yourself that God is with you and that you want to become a stronger man for him. first step you must forgive yourself for past events and ask God to forgive you in Jesus name. this was the hardest part for me. if you want to team up im all for it. hit me up if your interested.
