anybody like to watch any of the stargate series? what i think is interesting about it is how events in mythology are explained by the fact that lots of evil gods in the past were actually aliens playing god. surely theres some christians out there who get some satisfaction from seeing who is supposed to be the original Baal, being defeated by the stargate team?

YES....... i love stargate... the alien Idea to impose a fulse God ..and the fact that the Go'ould are pictured as a type of a dragon (satan like symbol) and they remind me so much of demonic forces who do take up the Identity of an Idol

yep you can tell the writers have an impressive knowledge of mythology and religious writings. i thought there was a lot of christian references when they were fighting the Ori.

yes i noticed that too...it came down to the relization to the characters that there should be a God out there that was not like the Go'auld nor the Ori...it got people questioning about God a little

when i saw the last Ep for season 5 star gate atlantis ...sence they finely got the ship/city to earth i figured it could be the last show...even though i was hoping i was wrong

the fact is that a star gates coordenates change when it changes its location (lightyears apart) and is basicly Lost. or at least thats what i heard from some SG1 Epesodes. though i was hoping that Atlantis and SG1 would finely work together. :( . and start another show with a diffrent name. BUT i am glad they are starting with another one :)

thats an interesting point. technically the atlantis stargate would now be the same address as earths stargate. they would probably deactivate the atlantis one so that stargate command would still have the only functional one? i think they should put atlantis on the moon or mars or maybe in orbit or something as defense againts attacks. yeah theres a lot there thats possible and i wonder what they will do. i cant wait to see the new series but from what ive heard, it takes place on a giant ship of the ancients that travels around depositing stargates on worlds. and the team gets stuck on it.

yeah probably not. probably going to kinda be like star trek voyager was to the star trek series. on their own, in a distant galaxy, cut off, blah blah.

I really like SG-1 but after series 8 I thought the storylines got poorer and a bit repetitive and the same themes seem to keep being addressed over and over again and it became less interesting, a bit like Star Trek in that respect.

I am glad it is continuing on in a new show, maybe this one will be a litte different to the others and expand on other things.

I preferred the show when the Goa'uld were the main enemy, although there was a lot of potential with the ascended ancients I didn't enjoy the way they pursued that storyline, the policy of non-interference made it a lot less engaging than it might have been.

yeah the goa'uld were the best bad guys. i was never too fond of cameron mitchell, much preferred O'Neill. it also bugged me that they killed off all the asgard. the most advanced and interesting race and they were suddenly all gone. kinda lame.
yeah im looking forward to seeing what new things are discovered and what is expanded on. i have also heard that they are probably going for more of the battlestar galactica kinda feel. so there will probably be a lot more emotional crap and ppl sitting around talking.

yeah i really think that a fleet of ships with an asgard on board, battling whatever evil came along, would have made a great series, but no, they had to completely decimate the entire asgard race, i suspect because they were too much of an easy out in the sense of a story. and probably because it was too reminiscent of star trek with the asgard as the vulcans. but maybe i nitpick too much.

As much as I enjoy the original show I find that the longer Stargate has gone on the more it has missed oppourtunites for some really great stories, the Asgard are one good example, they came into the show very strong and with each season they seemed to get weaker and then be written out of the show all together, they were used but not as much or as well as they could have been, in my opinion.

The ascended ancients were not used much either because they wouldn't involve themselves in human struggles, and then the Ori were just too much like the Goa'uld to be enjoyable, ascended beings using religion to enslave, it was basically the same storyline as before, with the SGC trying to incite rebellion and independence so I couldn't enjoy it very much.
