I might also add that we probably take those verses a bit differently if you are a young Earth/young universe creationist; I don't think heaven and Earth were made at the same time. Heaven has probably existed since the creation of the material universe, that's 'the beginning'. Earth formed gravitationally billions of years later.
But it is 'the heavens' plural, which could mean a range of things. In the International Standard Version the verse is even "In the beginning, God created the universe."!
All that is classical Hebrew Genesis material is pretty clearly metaphorical once you start learning about cosmology and evolution.

i tell you what, every living species i've seen, mutants are sort of shunned when it comes to reproduction, not highly prized. perhaps animal-kind has forgotten how to evolve, and things were different in the far reaches of time.
Well it depends on the mutation. Sometimes mutations can be very harmful and not at all beneficial to the organism, other times it can give them a quality that means a better chance of survival. For example let's take a lady bug. A lady bug reproduces and its offspring all have the same trait of being bright red, except for one which is born green. If they're on leaves and a predator approaches to eat them, it's going to first eat the ones that are easy to spot, so the red ones. The one that's mutated to be green has a better chance of survival and therefore a better chance to pass down its genetics to future lady bugs.

Animals can't "forget" how to evolve. They're constantly evolving and we are, too. It's hard to see in humans because of medicine, and not only the strongest survive any more. But imagine we didn't have modern medicine. If an epidemic began working its way through humanity, those with the genetics to combat the virus would live while those without would die. Naturally, those who lived would be able to reproduce and therefore pass on their genetics so their children have the gene that allows them to fight the virus.

Evolution is constantly happening and will continue to do so as long as there is life.

Not at all. Each of the intermediary steps of the eye are also beneficial, as exhibited by the fact that there are animals alive today whose eye spots or eyes reflect each of these intermediate forms.

We have examples of intermediate forms and a pathway to get from one to the next. What's the problem?

Complex species, such as fish (g) worms, corals, trilobites, jellyfish (h) sponges, mollusks, and brachiopods appear suddenly, with no sign anywhere on earth of gradual development from simpler forms. Insects, a class comprising four-fifths of all known animal species (living and extinct), have no known evolutionary ancestors (i). What is even more amazing is this man, who used his intelligence to design this mechanical writing doll, is himself not considered by evolutionists to have been created by an Intelligent Designer even though he is far more amazing than his creation.

You should not use examples of micro-evolution to prove the existence of macro-evolution. Everyone knows micro-evolution occurs. We can see it occur in bugs in the laboratory. It is macro-evolution that people debate. Macro-evolution is the concept that one species can turn into a brand new species. Micro-evolution is the idea that through reproduction, a species can become better at living, thus natural selection will occur. But it is the leap from species becoming better, to changing from a non-human into a human that is missing...thus the term "missing link." The evidence that something like occurred is just not available.

A thorough honest evaluation of the evidence would make most scientists (and evolution is a scientific theory, thus scientists are the ones best suited to debate this) uncomfortable with concluding they are "sure" human life was started by random chance, because the probably of that occurring is too remote, and you can’t use the scientific method to prove something occurred in the distance past.

But again, if you want to attempt to prove something no one else can, that humans came from non-humans, have fun, but using micro-evolution is just not cutting it.

Dr. Behe is great…(http://www.lehigh.edu/~inbios/faculty/behe.html) he talks about the concept of irreducible complexity – biological systems that exist in nature that simply could not have evolved through multiple trials because their complexity is so limited that they simply cannot function without their critical parts.

Here is an example I just thought up, his examples are better…Take a hollow cube for example. It would have six sides, let’s call them:

Floor
Roof
Left Wall
Right Wall
Front Wall
Back Wall

Now place the cube on the table and randomly select one side to go away. Then randomly select another side. You will see very quickly, that random chance will leave your cube collapsed very quickly. At the point just before it collapses is when it has reached irreducible complexity. Going any less complex and the whole thing becomes a pile of junk that “natural selection” would never select, assuming natural selection performs as people suggest…choosing the most viable and ignoring those organisms with a lot of piles of junk.

By the way, Darwin himself theorized about irreducible complex biological systems and said that IF they existed, it would cause a very large problem for the concept of natural selection.

I wasn't attempting to prove anything, perhaps you should have read the box I was replying to. I was merely showing examples of how mutations are involved in evolution, and explaining that nothing is capable of "forgetting" how to evolve. Such a statement is ridiculous.

Those who do know the facts, fear to disclose them to the general public, lest they be fired. But they do write articles in their own professional journals and books, condemning evolutionary theory.

Included below are a number of admissions by leading evolutionists of earlier decades, such as *Charles Darwin, *Austin Clark, or *Fred Hoyle. The truth is that evolutionists cannot make scientific facts fit the theory.

An asterisk ( * ) by a name indicates that person is not known to be a creationist. Of over 4,000 quotations in the set of books thisEncyclopedia is based on, only 164 statements are by creationists.

"The Darwinian theory of descent has not a single fact to confirm it in the realm of nature. It is not the result of scientific research, but purely the product of imagination."—*Dr. Fleischman [Erlangen zoologist].

"It is almost invariably assumed that animals with bodies composed of a single cell represent the primitive animals from which all others derived. "I think, however, that we must go further than this and admit that the only acceptable explanation is creation. I know that this is anathema to physicists, as indeed it is to me, but we must not reject a theory that we do not like if the experimental evidence supports it."—*H. "As by this theory, innumerable transitional forms must have existed. Why do we not find them embedded in the crust of the earth? " `Creation,' in the ordinary sense of the word, is perfectly conceivable. "The evolution theory can by no means be regarded as an innocuous natural philosophy, but that it is a serious obstruction to biological research. "It is therefore of immediate concern to both biologists and layman that Darwinism is under attack. The theory of life that undermined nineteenth-century religion has virtually become a religion itself and, in its turn, is being threatened by fresh ideas. The attacks are certainly not limited to those of the creationists and religious fundamentalists who deny Darwinism for political and moral reason. "The creation account in Genesis and the theory of evolution could not be reconciled. One must be right and the other wrong. The story of the fossils agreed with the account of Genesis. In the oldest rocks we did not find a series of fossils covering the gradual changes from the most primitive creatures to developed forms, but rather in the oldest rocks developed species suddenly appeared. "From the almost total absence of fossil evidence relative to the origin of the phyla, it follows that any explanation of the mechanism in the creative evolution of the fundamental structural plans is heavily burdened with hypothesis.
