I know this isn't Singles-related, but I don't want to post this in the Bible forum for obvious reasons.

What is your take on ghosts? As in apparitions, haunting experiences? (not personal possession or anything of that sorts). Any experiences?

From a biblical standpoint, the concept of a ghost is not possible. A ghost is the spirit of a person that is trapped to a location or object that is being held back from moving to.. wherever.. do to some trauma or turmoil. And until this is resolved the spirit remains trapped.
Consider this against the bible saying 'it is appointed once for a man to die And Then To Judgement'. Then there is no biblical possibility of a disembodied spirit staying on the earth to haunt us.

I'm not sure ghosts exist. I do believe in hauntings, but I often believe they are either demons or "evil spirits."

Do I believe in ghosts? Let me tell you a story that is absolutely and genuinely 100%........................ interesting!!!

Late last night I was walking through a burned-out district of downtown Toronto (don't ask me why I was there, just go along with it), when out of a dark alley a very large, very round and extremely pale-faced figure appeared suddenly and demanded in a creepy and raspy voice if I had any crack-cocaine. I responded "Absolutely not. I am a law-abiding citizen and a good Christian man!!!" But out of curiosity I inquired why it was asking me for some, and it responded by saying "Because I can't af-FORD it myself". The mysterious figure than said to me "You did not see me here" and it vanished back into the dark alley just as abruptly as it had appeared.

I don't mean to be blunt (no pun intended with the word "blunt") but if that was not a ghost, than I don't know what it could have been.

On a completely different subject, does anyone know where Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was last night? His wife said he didn't come home until early this morning!!!

A ghost in the bible...

(1 Samuel 28:7-15)

Then Saul told his officers, “Find me a woman who can talk to the spirits of the dead. I’ll go to her and find out what’s going to happen.”His servants told him, “There’s a woman at Endor who can talk to spirits of the dead.”
[SUP]8 [/SUP]That night, Saul put on different clothing so nobody would recognize him. Then he and two of his men went to the woman, and asked, “Will you bring up the ghost of someone for us?”
[SUP]9 [/SUP]The woman said, “Why are you trying to trick me and get me killed? You know King Saul has gotten rid of everyone who talks to the spirits of the dead!”
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Saul replied, “I swear by the living Lord that nothing will happen to you because of this.”
[SUP]11 [/SUP]“Who do you want me to bring up?” she asked.
“Bring up the ghost of Samuel,” he answered.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed.
Then she turned to Saul and said, “You’ve tricked me! You’re the king!”
[SUP]13 [/SUP]“Don’t be afraid,” Saul replied. “Just tell me what you see.”
She answered, “I see a spirit rising up out of the ground.”
[SUP]14 [/SUP]“What does it look like?”
“It looks like an old man wearing a robe.”
Saul knew it was Samuel, so he bowed down low.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]“Why are you bothering me by bringing me up like this?” Samuel asked.
“I’m terribly worried,” Saul answered. “The Philistines are about to attack me. God has turned his back on me and won’t answer any more by prophets or by dreams. What should I do?”

I believe in them, if Casper counts :D

Seariously now, don't entertain them thoughts, give them to Jesus and if you are thunking you're being attacked by ghosts, etc. then think of them as a 'spirit' because they are, because a ghost is a spirit of someone who died and there are good and bad spirits.

It says in 1 John 1 that we are to 'test the spirits' to see if they are from God or not.

And, if you ask them if they believe Jesus came to Earth in the flesh they will acknowledge that fact.

I don't know exactly how this works because not experienced any bad spirit experiences (Thank God ! ) but, yeah, this below should help. :)

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. 4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[SUP]a[/SUP] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

That wasn't a ghost. It has been called a demon and/or Samuel himself in the original translation. It's also said that the Witch of Endor was surprised to bring Samuel at all. That's why she said she had been tricked. And a few verses down it says that Saul knew it was Samuel, so he bowed before him.

Just today my mom was talking about a time we lived in a different house years ago. Many people said it was haunted, and while I didn't have any ghostly experience, my mom was talking of a few that happened to her and the maid that was working there. Things like items disappearing and then appearing again on the same spot it had disappeared, the garage door opening by itself, our dogs barking at night, etc. My brother has told me about times when he has heard voices at night at an old house too, or times where he has woken up in the middle of the night feeling out of breath and paralyzed in bed, unable to move.

I don't know if those things were all caused by supernatural causes, but if they were I believe they were demons trying to get our attention for one reason or another. I dont believe ghosts are people.

PS. Nice picture! :) you really do look like you're 21

I personally believe that evil spirits can mimic other people. I had a very good friend who has seen "things" claiming to be his sister and his best friend, both deceased, and he told me, "Kim, I know one thing. It looked like them... but it wasn't them." And no, he's not an occultic devil worshiper but rather, a Bible-believing Christian who has, even from childhood, been sensitive to supernatural happenings.

Now, I could be wrong in my thinking--it's a personal belief and not proven fact. But I find it interesting that the Bible mentions a battle between the devil and the angel Michael over Moses' body because Satan wanted to use Moses' body to deceive people.

I've also found it intriguing that when Jesus was resurrected and appeared to His disciples, they immediately thought He was a ghost. The Bible says that Jesus even ate a piece of fish in front of them, in part, to prove to them that it was really Him and that He had been restored as a true human being.

What fascinates me most is that Jesus, the Creator of the Universe, did not tell them, "You silly disciples, there are no such things as ghosts!!" But instead, He told them, "A ghost does not have flesh and blood as I have." I just always thought that if ghosts absolutely, positively, no-way-in-the-entire-world do not exist... Why didn't Jesus just say so? He never failed to correct them in false beliefs before--in fact, His answer was correcting their false belief that He was a ghost to begin with--so I've always figured if no such thing exists, Jesus would be the first to tell them. But that's not what He did.

I'm not saying ghosts DO exist... but I'm not entirely convinced they can be completely ruled out either, and may have a different definition than what we humans believe them to be. Which may be another reason why God has always strictly forbidden contact with the spirit world other than Himself.

I don't believe in ghosts... but there are such things as demons and angels, and I have seen a demon before. When I was about 10 it occurred.. I saw it at the end of the hallway when i woke up one morning, (and my bed was facing the hallway). It was floating off of the ground and hiding halfway behind the fridge (just out open enough so that i could see it) and then it showed up closer in the bathroom and peeked it's head out again!! Scared me enough to go under my covers!! And then while I was under the covers, I prayed and when I popped my head out to see, it had left!! So yah... that was my experience.... lol.

That's a pretty good case. Though I want to present a question...

Considering that there was a bit of a language barrier when the Bible was translated to English, do some think that there could have been a better translation for the word ghost? Not saying it's totally inaccurate and that I'm discrediting the Bible. Just wondering if there could have been a better word than ghost?

The blood is the mortal life, not the ghost. Christ was drained of blood at the cross and when the soldier pierced Him in the side with the Holy Lance, blood and water drained out the dead flesh of Christ representing the presence of humanity (blood) and divinity (water). After He rose He couldn't ascend into heaven with the blood but only the bone and flesh. This is why he appeared "like a ghost" to his disciples. The life in the blood which represents the Mercy of God, the water is the cleansing of the life representing the Compassion of God.

They're real. The spiritual world is severely misunderstood, and yes, I've had many throughout my lifetime.

The theory is that God allowed Samuel to come back as himself, not a ghost. Or it was a demon impersonating Samuel and the Witch of Endor was surprised because she saw a real spirit. But no ghosts. That's a translation issue.
