It could be beneficial for people who suffer from PTSD, like certain veterans, although scientist still don't know enough about the workings of the brain to exactly pinpoint certain memories that are to be erased. Apart from that, like any other invention, this probably could also be used for bad purposes.

This one has me concerned. Popular Science reports on scientific studies being done to chemically subdue, delete, and erase memories in the human mind.

How Scientists Are Learning To Shape Our Memory | Popular Science

That science in the wrong hands is bad news.

Let your creativity run wild.

A lot of chemicals that we take have effects on our brains that are adverse, as you know. Alcohol has the same effect; giving a person the inability to remember things while under the influence, because it blunts out the instruments we actually use to form memories in the first place. It also enables us to forget for a short time after the fact, which is probably one of the reasons why 'turning to the bottle' after a traumatic event is such a prevalent practice.

I noticed that one of the chemicals used in the study is an opiate, that when taken before a traumatic event, stops the formation of anxiety. We also already do this; morphine in hospitals. Taking morphine before a person cuts open your abdomen to remove a bullet not only alleviates pain but also alleviates any stress about the event.

The worrying chemical is the SR-8993, which is stated as having the ability to 'remove memories' days after their inception. This was 'proved' because the scientists put mice into an environment with certain recall factors; a particularly coloured paint, a vanilla smell, and then the rats were given addictive drugs. Two days later, injected with SR-8993, they did not seek out the drugs, but the control group did. However, the effect could just as easily be a non-desire to intake anything due to nausea or sickness, or it could be that the SR-8993 causes trauma and brain cell death; which we know to affect short term memory, from humans' own experiences with drug abuse and harmful substances.

In essence, they may just be giving the mice amnesia as a result of brain damage.

the most interesting, safe part of this study was a placebo effect. In essence, they gave the human subjects a questionnaire on their teenage drinking habits and then falsely blamed drinking for health problems in the subjects, even though the drinking hadn't caused them. After this, they were given another questionnaire and over 80% of the subjects rated alcohol as less desirable. Not only that, they recalled false memories of its effects. It's the power of suggestion. had they been hypnotized for this, they would likely sop alcohol altogether.

This treatment, I would say, could be applied more safely to PTSD than research chemicals.

This has been used for a long time but is becoming more advanced perhaps.

Medications have been used a long time to disable and control people in order to say change the will they have or get full power of the money they have , make them mad or suffer side effects they feel mad.

In scandinavia there were headlines how doctors were being paid to medicate patients in order to harm, disable or erase memory preferbly have them druling also in order to take money or title etc from them or maybe even a woman or man obsessed with marrying someone and another he/she wants so try erase memory or and drug them silly.
Suprised how much power doctors can have and miss use.
Specially when it is organised crime involved.
Imagine a billionaire or multimillionaire and how many are out to take that.
Or a title or a super duper wonderful spouse :).....

Also was reported torture performed by doctors.
They chose who they were to torture and had a group that were all "in on it".

This was also in news in scandinavia.
Woman waking during surgery and being raped or tied up and sadist sex games performed on them.
They even got confessions.
Some footage was even cought making a sadist porno out of it as it could be watched and sold for a load of money to chosen clientel.

One was having heart surgery and was awake.

One was having surgery and was told she does not deserve be given pain relief she was put to sleep and woken up and told they want watch her suffer.
Next to her laid a nother woman who they said was to look almost EXACTLY like you and she will become you and you will die .
She felt all the pain and saw what they did.

Hanging upside down on devices , man masturbating, rape, saying she last one ....

Scary thing is she then survived and found out some one else been living in her name and time look like her and she knows it same woman .
Many people were in on it and as she changed her name and also was slandered and lied about by power ful people it was difficult.

When she had changed her name and with catholic they told her to change her name and call her self a name of the one who been stealing from her who had become well known.
One had surgery.
Mean while they surgery on her to feel and look bad and down and lie.

She was also brain washed.

There is also a type of hypnotherapy that does much harm and erases memory and or does malicious programming.

In crime where so many are involved and information they do not want made public and if killing one after another may get to much attention media erasing memory seems better option.

Somewhere deep down ones soul may remember beyond the brain and with support one can get ones memory back. I beleive that. Healing can take place.

Much trauma and torture has occured and we need support each other heal but often these people commit crime are in power and fame and will not allow those happened to in church or be part society even specially some one stole the name and time.

Also heard of people forsing people wear burkas and even christians in on it because so much money make of them and stealing from them.

There is gentle exercises and understanding, healing and connecting with a real good people where one can get support , love and care as for those want isolate from such a good people who are this good they do not pretend the reign.

I am against torture.
Eraising memory is something they do do to people.

Also men have had anuses raped despite they are straight and if a man is little or has a woman side so to say but still straight some may try say they main and bi and lie and rape and keep name in cage at night cut wings and so forth.

God bless and best wish for brains and beings and healing.

and heard it spreading as beautician paid make people ugly and feel ugly or destroy there natural layersof protection of skin and colour and life etc as they jealous they make some this and others eeeverything stolen also such as acid attacks on client pays to have facial and then erase the name and time or evidence. much cheating.

Drugs That May Cause Memory Loss Side Effect - AARP

"Most people are familiar with at least some of the things that can impair memory, including alcohol and drug abuse, heavy cigarette smoking, head injuries, stroke, sleep deprivation, severe stress, vitamin B12 deficiency, and illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease and depression.

But what many people don't realize is that many commonly prescribed drugs also can interfere with memory. Here are 10 of the top types of offenders."

Memory Loss After Surgery Can Be Caused By Too Much Anesthesia Healthcare Review

"The major reasons a brain monitor is not used during surgery, explains the author, is because the $20 cost cannot be billed to Medicare and most major insurance companies and because surgeons and anesthesiologists are by nature resistant to change."

Blocking receptor contributing to memory deficits may prevent memory loss after anesthesia

"Memory loss after anesthesia is a common adverse event upon awakening from surgery. Unfortunately the cause of such memory loss is unknown and there are no known treatments or prevention strategies. A study published in the November 2010 issue of Anesthesiology indicates that this memory loss could be prevented by blocking a receptor thought to contribute to memory deficits. Such a treatment may be able to solve the feeling of mental confusion that surgical patients so often feel shortly after coming out of anesthesia.

Memory impairment is an especially common occurrence in the elderly. Around 47 percent of elderly patients who underwent general anesthesia for minor surgical procedures exhibit memory deficits for at least 24 hours after surgery. Some of these deficits can linger: cognitive impairment, including memory loss, is present in 31-47 percent of patients at the time of hospital discharge.

Why memory loss happens, how severe it is, and how long it takes to recover remain poorly understood."

Unfortunately, this is one drug I have had personal experience with, and can honestly recommend that no one ever allow their anesthesiologist to use (if you value your memory and brain functionality). Also known as VERSED.

I actually forgot about this until just now.

There was a study done in Britain, might have been around last year some time, when scientists were given permission to test ecstasy (MDMA) for its usefulness in treating PTSD. The science study was funded by a television group here called 'Channel 4', on of our three main 'free' television networks, alongside the BBC and Channel 5.

The results indicated that ecstasy is actually very effective in treatments, and although the drug is primarily a party drug and has associations with deaths from dehydration, bodily overheating, and water asphyxiation, the pure form of the drug actually has relatively few side effects when used in a controlled and regulated way.

The study was very different from any other study, because past studies had only compared the brains of 'normal' people to long term ecstasy users, but never had a study been done (or at least, hadn't been published) where people who previously hadn't taken MDMA were given the drug in a controlled environment and scanned while under the influence.

As part of the double blind trial the volunteers took either 83 mg of clinical grade MDM or a placebo of vitamin C. They then went into the MRI brain scanner to monitor their neural activity and were asked a series of psychological questions to test their empathy and sensory perception. Some of the questions were designed to prompt negative memories, and others looked at how trusting the participant was. The programme also featured some of the half a million people who take ecstasy every week who spoke about the drugs ability to connect people and ensure a good time.

...... the ex-soldier did not display the same typical reaction as the other volunteers. He found the experience made him anxious, mistrusting and angry and he did mention that it may be attributed to his experience on the front line which brings into question whether all sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are suitable for the suggested MDMA treatment. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a serious condition with symptoms such as re-living of experiences through dreams or flashbacks, suffering depressed moods, and angry outbursts. The therapists that were interviewed in the audience of the debate explained that PTSD was particularly difficult to treat and the current therapeutic techniques were not significantly effective. One of the volunteers, Hayley, a priest, who had suffered PTSD after an assault said that for her this condition was characterised as an unfamiliar sense of anger and disconnection to others. She went on to say that her experience on MDMA in the trial enabled her to recall the assault perfectly and process it intellectually whilst being disconnected from the emotions usually associated with the memory.

...... most antidepressants are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This means that they aren't just happy pills that give you serotonin, they work by basically blocking the serotonin neurons from recycling the serotonin they release. Essentially SSRIs increase the amount of serotonin floating around the brain. In regards to the programme findings, Professor Nut commented that people with depression typically have a lot of neural activity between the network in the brain which is responsible for our perception of our self and the prefrontal cortex; the emotional epicentre of the brain. This over-connection of neurons manifests itself as negative thoughts. The data from the MRI scanner showed the impact MDMA had on the brain. The results indicate that MDMA effectively switches off the prefrontal cortex and floods the brain with serotonin which dampens down the rest of the connections.

I think this could be very effective given the right precautions. My only gripe with this is that MDMA effects typically wear off in less than 12 hours and the 'hangover' effect can make a person very depressed. So, although the drug may help people process emotions and traumatic experiences effectively, a 'weening' or a substitute drug to counteract the short term depressive side effects would also be a very good idea.

Anyway, this study, unlike the OP study, isn't about 'removing' the memories, instead it seems to be about reliving them in such a way as to process them and come to terms with them effectively - a much better goal in my eyes.

This is bad. Very bad.

I don't like this kind of stuff at all.

Do you know what chemical subdues people quite well and impairs their functioning? Fluoride.

It's the basis of almost all of the anti depressents on the market.

Other than that, I don't necessarily buy in to the idea that you could ever completely control another human being as it would mean there is no free will. Influence, and perhaps quite drastically at that, but not control.

I agree and also people who can't outlive childhood abuse. Like myself. It sure would be nice to just erase those memories that come flashing back at times :/ but I would be afraid of this type of technology falling into evil hands.

Are you sure you really want to lose any of your memories?

We are, in a large part, the sum total of our experiences. Who are we to say that God cannot use our past experiences (even the evil ones) to His benefit.

You're absolutely right about fluoride ! That's why I don't use any fluoride toothpaste anymore and I use fluoride free toothpaste only. I feel very sorry for people who live in areas where fluoride in tap water is mandatory. Do you know this idea of water fluoridation came from the nazis ? They used it in concentration camps to subdue people's minds and to make them calm and docile,
and to sterilize them too. Fluoride is a mutagen and causes cancer as well.
It's extremely harmful and is a bio cumulative poison. That means it doesn't matter what quantity you take, it build up in your body because your kidneys just filtrate about half the fluoride intake, and it gets much worse for infants and for people who have kidneys in bad shape like the diabetic people for instance.

Now I have to disagree about what you said about control.
Is it possible to still have control if you are forcefully given a very powerful drug ?
Unless you are directly empowered by the Holy Spirit to not be poisoned by any means,
it's not possible.

There is extremely evil neo nazis scientists who secretly use ancient nazi science to subdue and brainwash innocent people with very powerful drugs and very cruel and perverse tortures !
Project MK Ultra, Project Bluebird, just look it up, it's absolutely unthinkable and utterly satanic !
The thing is,
most people who are victims of such nameless abominations don't even remember one bit of
the utterly satanic atrocities done to them.

Yeah.

MK and bluebird were (and still are) bad news.

I think they must also involve demonic possession though. It makes sense with the split personalities. Note, not all split personalities fit that profile, many may just be due to abuse, but I think in the MK case, there had to be something more. It wasn't listed as very successful, yet there are those who claim it was, I think the occult must have been the catalyst.

Could have just been the LSD, to be honest.

LSD causes the barrier between conscious and subconscious to effectively 'break down', like it does in a person with schizophrenia. So people walk around in a state of being semi-conscious, their 'dream mind' seeps into their everyday mind and that's where the hallucinations and primal fear come from.

The subconscious brain, the amygdala etc, they are parts of the brain that are dominant in lizards. Lizards don't make social connections, they hunt aggressively and they have very basic fight or flight instincts. They are totally at the whim of their primal nature. We share the same amygdala, but our neocortexes and right and left lobes are parts of the brain that we use for emotions, rational thought and logic.

If the subconscious brain bleeds into the logical, emotional brain, it sends mixed messages along neural pathways, hence the unusual manner in which schizophrenics (as just one example) behave. It explains the aggressiveness, the hallucinations, the seemingly 'dull' intellect and the paranoid, separatist thought patterns 'everyones out to get me', 'I gotta defend my home'.

It's no surprise that long-term LSD users regularly develop schizophrenia or some form of mental issue.

I don't really think it has much to do with the occult. Split-personality disorder is as much a way for the intellectual parts of the brain to rationalize the trauma as it is to rationalize the bleed-through of the subconscious.

Okay, I have to correct a mistake in my last post; it's forcibly and not forcefully :

Is it possible to still have control if you are forcibly given a very powerful drug ?

It's partially true about the occult in mind control. I read the book Trance Formation of America, written by Cathy O'Brien, a supposed ancient victim of the MK Ultra project. And there's an occult involvement. But most of MK ultra techniques
are based on excruciating tortures and brainwashing with very powerful drugs , hypnosis techniques , food and water and sleep deprivation, ritual human sacrifices, etc. and excruciating physical and psychological pain and trauma. All of that provoke split of personality soon or later.
