He was praying to Himself, but He was also praying as a man in the Garden of Gethsemane, sweating 'drops of blood.' His human essence fullness of Him was in deep distress at the thought of the horrible torture and humiliation and time that was to soon become His human life.
Remember, fully God and fully man means that Jesus was both able to experience human pain and also be fully God of the universe, too, remember, Jesus was doing His Father's will. Did He have to? No. Afterall, Jesus is God, all 'will' is His.
Remember, as a man, Jesus TAKES no authority that is given Him, it doesn't mean He doesn't HAVE authority. He does. But, as a man, Jesus submitted to His Father (God) in heaven.
Jesus was showing us where our authority comes from when we are on Earth? From where? From who? From God
