Soimetimes I hear the argument against seeking God for healing that "God gave us doctors and medicine".

If we apply the same sort of logic to the internet what could we say? -

"God gave us the internet" therefore I don't have to read my bible, go to church, etc.

shh, stop using logic, it's against the rules. Logic means we can't be buffet christians and have to apply our thoughts and beliefs evenly to everything and not just rock and roll, fantasy novels, and science!

I think substituting face-to-face fellowship for a "cyber church" would be an unhealthy alternative but I could be old-school in that regard. I don't tend to cultivate very deep or lasting friendships online.

As for reading the Bible online, I don't have a problem with it. In fact, you can find pretty good daily devotionals and have them sent to your email. For example: http://www.christ.com/devotional-ourdailybread.html

Hmm... interesting. I'm not quite sure I follow you. I've never heard the arguement of modern medicine as an excuse to not pray for healing. I have heard the modern medicine arguement to defend going to doctors and not to prayer alone. See, in the 19th century there was a... I don't know what to call it, popular belief that Jesus didn't just died for our sins, but also our physical aliments. So if we're forgiven we should also be free from disease. Out of this came the Church of Chrisitan Science which doesn't believe in modern medicine. I don't doubt that God wants us to take advantage of ethical modern medicine, but we need to rely on God for healing because He can heal us in ways that medicine can't. But see, if I get a sinus infection and I go the doctor to get a round of anti-biotics, it won't make it into my prayers unless I really don't get better. In this respect it may seem like God is my last resort to get better instead of my first defence. Is that bad? No, of course not, why should I pray about an easily treated sinus infection when my minister's wife is battling ovarian cancer? Doesn't she need the prayer more than I do? It's like how I don't pray how I'm going to get to work everyday. I just get in my car and drive. The point I'm trying to make is that we all have enough to pray about without praying for things that are already solved by modern technology.

As for God giving us the internet, umm... Well, I've read the Bible off the internet before. I like being able to get a passage in every different way it's been translated into English. I obviously don't have every translation in hard copy. And I really don't think it makes a difference to God whether we read His Word off the Internet or off print. As for using the Internet instead of going to church... I'm just not following you there.

How many times do we go to google for our answers to our problems instead of God? There's probably one thing worse than self-help books, it's self-help webpages, particularly the quack ones.

Oh, so that's what you meant. Well, that depends on the problem. I think we should avoid the either/or scenario. I heard someone say once that when confronted with a major problem one should "work like everything depends on you, pray like everything depends on God." Like, when I was unemployed I prayed hard, but I also worked hard to find a job and I found my current job on-line. The internet made it handy but the real credit goes to God. I think it's unwise to pray instead of doing everything we can (which may invovle internet research) instead of in addition to everything we can. See, I think that if I just prayed for a job but never actually looked for one, hoping that God would prompt my current boss to call me, not the other way around, then I don't think He would have answered my prayer because that would have just been catering to my sloth, and trust me, God never encourages me to sin. See, I think we'd all like to think that praying to God can replace hard work on our part, but it doesn't work that way.

In Daniel it says that just before the coming of Christ that knowledge would be increased. As in the days of Noah, so is the coming of the son of man.
They were not dumb caveman type inhabitants of the earth back then. They had all kinds of knowledge. It was their brutish behavior that made them have to be removed from the earth and the perverions that they committed upon man and beast. We see the same thing today in the genetic creations that man is performing.

Yes in a positive sense. Many shall run to and fro, refers to the expansion of the Gospel around the world, and the taking of the revelations of Daniel to all the ends of the earth before the end comes. With increase in knowledge, the angel was saying that people would inquire into the things recorded down spoken to Daniel and gain knowledge of God. This increase in knowledge includes the fulfillment of prophecy as they panned out over time about the things contained in Daniel, such as the coming of Christ, the revelation and understanding of the Gospel etc etc. As the prophecy of Daniel nears complete fulfillment spiritual knowledge about the times and seasons and God's will and ways increases. Daniel had to shut up the words of the book and seal it so that its message would not be lost and would be reserved for us in the last days when we get the increased knowledge of the prophecies in Daniel as they are fulfilled. And here we are, on the internet in differnet countries exchanging this increased knowledge of God.

I just want to say, for the record, that google is the most effective Bible study program ever written, EVER.

Any little passage... just a PHRASE even... from ANY version of the Bible, and Google will pull it up. It's really helpful for those of us disinclined against rote memorization. But once I quote the same passage enough times, I do eventually remember it.

The net is reaching all over the world just like God planned. God still goes to church and that is very important for you and for him. Make sure it's a good church.
