The trouble is, it doesn't work. This only adds up to three days and two nights, not three days and three nights.
Also, John 20:1
tells us that "on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb."

Did you catch the problem here? John tells us it was still dark when Mary went to the tomb on Sunday morning and found it empty. Jesus was already resurrected well before daybreak. Thus He wasn't in the tomb any of the daylight portion of Sunday, so none of that can be counted as a day.
The problem here is you are trying to reckon the days in modern western thought. Jesus did not speak such things. His words were to eastern thoughts. This is why a king could only be king for two days and be considered a king for 2 years. if He reigned from the last day of one year into the first day of the next. same with days. Jesus died on Friday in the afternoon. today we would say that is just a part of the day. they would reckon the whole day. same with raising on Sunday you and I would hardly acknowledge Sunday because Jesus rose early that day. but they would reckon the entire day and night. Thus three days and three night. Remember we must understand what Jesus said in light of His culture not ours.

Blessings.

The scriptures prove different! We read and search the scriptures to prove ourselves, not to fit our belief.

Lets take another look...
He died and was buried on the day before the sabbath and raised from the dead the day after, which was the first day of the week. Luke 24:1, Luke 24:17-21

We are going with your interpretation for the moment the you can answer these questions

Day of preparation = friday okay hmmmmmm

Where were the women on the day of preparation before the weekly sabbath was it by the cross watching Jesus or in a shop ?

[h=3]Matthew 27:50-56[/h]King James Version (KJV)

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

What happens in Israel on a Friday ?
Where wer the women when Jesus was crucified ?
Did they leave the site on Friday when Jesus died ?

I think you have missed something.
Yes they were there while Jesus was on the cross.

Luk 23:50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:
Luk 23:51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
Luk 23:52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
Luk 23:53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
Luk 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
Luk 23:55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

Notice we are given more information here, the preparing of the spices happened after Jesus had been taken down, after he had been wrapped in linen and after he had been laid in the sepluchre. They had come and watched this all happen and then as the Sabbath is drawing near.

Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

notice they returned this means they left the tomb after he had been laid in there, this was the time they prepared the spices and ointments. but apparently they did not have time to apply them because the Sabbath came. so they rested and returned on Sunday early to apply the spices and ointments, as seen in the next verse.

Luk 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

The Only Proof Jesus Gave that He Is Our Savior!
We’re on the verge of seeing another stone rolled away, a stone that is blocking our understanding. We as the body of Christ must understand the all-important timing of the resurrection.
.

First notice the timing of the burial, a key factor since once we know when the burial occurred, we have a simple math problem to calculate. We add 72 hours to the time of burial. Jesus was buried as the Sabbath was about to begin (Luke 23:44-46,54). It had not begun, so He was buried just before sunset on the day before the Sabbath. Which Sabbath? the sun is setting hmmmm

When did the women return and prepare the spices?

That’s where Mark 16:1-2 comes in: “When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.”

Reading both passages in Mark and Luke, the only possible conclusion comes clear. Here we have women who see Jesus’ body laid in the tomb just before sunset ushers in the annual Sabbath.

They would not be able to buy spices and have time for the elaborate preparation of these ointments for burial purposes that night or the next, since it was a Sabbath and all shops were closed. They could only make these purchases and do these preparations on the day after the Sabbath, which Mark 16:1 confirms.

But Luke 23:56 says they prepared the spices before the Sabbath. God is not a liar and does not contradict Himself. They certainly did not buy their spices before and after the same Sabbath.

The answer? This was a special week with two Sabbaths because of the spring feast. The weekly Sabbath was on Saturday, the preceding day, Friday, being a workday in which the women could purchase and prepare the spices and they kept another Sabbath, a high day, that preceded that Friday workday.

That high day would have been Thursday, Wednesday being the preparation day or Passover. We know Jesus was put in the tomb on the day before the high day, which we now know was Thursday. We can see therefore that the Passover had to be on Wednesday in the year of Jesus' crucifixion.

Interesting perspective. I love that you are bringing the other Gospel perspectives into this. Lets look.

Joh 19:38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
Joh 19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
Joh 19:40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

We note that some preperation was already done at the time of Jesus death. Then we have the other two which we have mentioned.

Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

So here they prepared spices and ointments just before the commandment Sabbath. which were brought the next day. who is they?

Luk 23:55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

who are these women?

Mat 27:55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
Mat 27:56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

notice that Mary Magdalene and Mary were among these women. So the women who went and prepared.

Luk 24:9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
Luk 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.

Notice again that the Mary's were with these other women.

Mar 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Here in Mark the focus is on the Mary's not all the women. the conclusion is then that the women who were with the Mary's at the crucifixion were the ones who prepared spices that Friday. but the Mary's bought there more than likely Saturday night after sunset when the Sabbath had passed.

Thus the picture given is one congruent with Christ dying the Friday which is fitting being that it was Passover of which He is the anti-type. and the women prepared spices and the Mary's bought spices and all went to the grave early Sunday morning together.

Not sure what you are getting at here?

The seventh day Sabbath was the high day because a feast Sabbath of unleavened bread fell on the 7th day making it a high day. You seem to be trying to make two Sabbaths when there is not.

As far as buying spices in the evening is plausible but whether it was that evening or the next morning really does not matter. They prepared for Him because he was already dead, they did know that He was dead.

Again this comes back to your view of two Sabbaths which I see no evidence for. Both the Feast Sabbath and the 7th day Sabbath were on the same day thus a High day.

I can't see your point of view, sorry.

Blessings.

If your faith is in keeping the Sabbath then your faith is not in Christ and have become self righteous and in that day Jesus will say depart from me you worker of iniquity for I never knew you. PLease put your faith in the work of the cross and not what you do. It is the only thing that God will accept. Please have an ear to hear.

That's just speculation that a high day was a feast day that fell on a weekly sabbath. More than likely a high day was a term for one of the festival sabbath days, e.g., the first day of unleavened bread.

Joh 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

which day was this?

Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Joh 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Joh 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Joh 19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
Joh 19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

note that this "High day" happens after Jesus dies on preparation day. following this high day comes the first day which is a Sunday. this is exactly the same pattern shown in Luke.

Jesus dies:

Luk 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Body taken and berried:

Luk 23:50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:
Luk 23:51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
Luk 23:52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
Luk 23:53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

It was preparation day before the Sabbath:

Luk 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

Joh 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

The women come on Sunday the first day:

Luk 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

Joh 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

The Pattern is exactly the same with some different details in each Gospel.

So this was a preparation day on which Jesus died on. same as the preparation day on which the Sabbath according to the commandment/7th day Sabbath came.

It doesn't matter how you spin this the High day is on the 7th day in this case. they are not separate days as can be seen by context. both follow the same pattern.

What a nonsensical comment. Why didn't you just direct me to something authoritative that your statement is fact and not just opinion.
