Hi
I need to know was I wrong?

My child is in a Bible Study and tonight they are visiting Nursing homes , and some other eldery people at their homes and delivering baskets. 2 separate groups of girls going to different homes.
The BS leader ask me about visiting my next door neighbor (she knows the neighbor...everyone knows this neighbor and she can be very very nasty and mean)
This neighbor has called the police on us because at the time my 8 yr old son had 3 friends over for a birthday pool party and they were in the pool at 8 pm and she called the police. This neighbor has flipped me off and said "who do you think you are a Christian?"
She has threatened to call the pound to take our new dog away because he barks (however I always put him in the house if he barks)
She called the police on other neighbors because their boys rode skateboards in their backyard. etc etc etc
My kids even years ago brought her a basket with cookies and invite to church. When I see her and I am cordgial and polite.
So today BS leader wanted me to go talk to her and I didn't really want to talk to her so the BS leader went to her house to ask if they could visit her.
I support the idea , yes she is lonely.
Then BS leader said my daughter's group will go there But my child heard this did not want to go because she can get nasty. My child said she was afraid.
I didn't want to send my child if she got verbally mean and just have my daughter stand there and take it.
(I don't think God ask us to do that?)
So the leader now is going herself with her daughters and my child is going to another older couples house.
So am I wrong?

Maybe it is better if someone not a neighbor is involved, if you are scared of this little old lady. But probably she is mean and crotchety because she has no one. Maybe if they find the woman to be happy with their visit, your daughter could go on the next visit?

Reaching out to the lost and lonely is always the right thing to do, but you do need to protect your children. Tough question about the right answer, for sure.

Pray and watch God move. Ask him to move quickly and speedily. He will solve it. Quite frankly I would ask God what to do...I know your BS leader wanted to spead the gospel but not everyone will accept it. Let your BS leader know you will move when God says so. If the next door neighbor doesnt accept the word the first time move on and move ahead like Jesus did

she was mean and crotchy when her husband was alive too.
I'm not afraid of her but my child is. I talk her once and awhile when she's not giving me the middle finger

First, you were not wrong, but may be you would have explained that to the BS so that you all together pray for her change of heart. You are to be as clever as a serpent and as humble as a dove. Do not just avoid her by being humble, be also praying for her and then you will have a breakthrough. She can became the most exciting friend and neighbor you would not allow to lose.

I say this very carefully, but as best you can you might want to pray for her and as best you can you and your family leave her alone. my uncle, as in the man married to my mom's sister, can be a nasty, fussy old dude. we had a property dispute with him a while back, and the more we did to try to concede to him, and do the right thing, the more upset he got. it is sad to say, but the best way to deal with some folks is to leave them alone.

I think you did right. Your neighbor got visited (by your bs leader and children) and your child got to vitit someone as well, without feeling afraid. If you would have made your daughter go to your neibors, she would not have the experiance of
wanting to tell someone of christ. But she would have learned that that is a burden instead of a joy to talk about jesus.

If a person has years, perhaps decades of experience being as your neighbor is, perhaps the best course of action is to live and let live. Or move.

I think you did the right thing. Maybe your neighbor has become senile. Maybe she'll get along with the VS teacher and that's good, but don't send your child, maybe in time but not now.

Apparently you all have quite a bit of "hands on" with this woman already. Biblically speaking a person is only required to witness to somebody only once and if you all have more than once you are not obligated...second...people should be led by God's Spirit to witness, visit etc. and I have a real problem with "forced" visitations, witnessing etc. Let God lead all to do what he wants them to do.

thank you friends so much for all your Godly wisdom and advice. I really appreciate it. I am at peace with it Thank You friends and God

God gave your daughter to YOU, not to a leader from your church.

YOU need to make the decisions about what YOU think your daughter should be doing.

I think you handled things just fine.

Thank You !!!! well said!

I think you should keep her in prayer and that others not as close to the situation you have with your neighbor should be the ones to make contact... But they should ignore your understanding of the past situations.. God can soften hearts in many different ways, So hard to tell what way will work ... i will be praying for you i know what it is like to live next to ppl that are like this
