Secular Music considered evil ??

No, not really. But if someone is really concerned about this kind of music, he must read between the lines of the song and see if it passes this Philippians 4:8 test: Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
 
I don't think secular music is inherently wrong. Just as we are to be selective about what we read, watch and the kind of people we associate with on a regular basis, we need to be so about the kind of music we listen to. I don't think most music (and the kind of people a particular genre attracts) is unhealthy. :cool:
 
I don't listen to secular music anymore like I used to. I got so sick and tired of the same message these artists like to sing or rap about it. Breaking the law, sex, drugs, and money. It all gets so old. And then their are those songs that are so negative they make me depressed. Last thing I want to hear is someone singing how they are giving up. I think about giving up daily so need positive music.

That "secular" music depends on the MESSAGE they are sending.

None -as I know- is an angel singing or performing NOW (except Avril Lavigne, who makes me feel a teenager)

The message, their wording is the "problem", besides that, all is secular (mundane) like me. :)

No. No. Sorry never liked them. Not my taste. Now I listen to a lot of instrumental music, especially being a writer now. I don't think music itself is evil. Take instrumental music for example. All music, no words and yet with certain musicians I can feel the darkness in it, but mostly because this was intentional. Think Two Steps From Hell. All music and I swear I feel like I'm in a horror movie. No joke! I find it amazing how music has power to create feelings. :D
 
If I can influence your behavior for the better or worse with a piano (without singing at all) then isn't there power over emotions with music in itself? I advise that the music in itself should be examined. We live in a time when people declare too many things to be neutral.
 
guys music is music. dont judge songs on how much sin it mentions because that is irrelevant when it comes to weather its a good or bad song. i listen to a lot of 2pac and a lot of christians would never listen to him because he curses and talks about drugs but in facts HES TALKING ABOUT REAL LIFE. when songs talk about hate and anger, THEY ARE REACHING OUT TO PEOPLE WHO FEEL LIKE THAT. if they have a bad message, well most songs dont imo. its all just how u interprete them. such as robin thicke said that blurred lines is actually for a campaign raising awareness of cancer and is saying that couples should be confident in checking each other for signs of cancer. however directly singing that wouldnt have made a good and popular song.

The amount of sin that a song mentions is irrelevant? Even if it portrays it in a positive light? I think it is sad that you feel that way. Have you ever stopped to think what the Lord's opinion is on the matter? In the end...our opinions are irrelevant. It is what the Lord says that matters. I've posted some verses for you. Please review them and think on these things.

Im not saying that sins good I'm just saying that its just music and thats it so it shouldn't effect us.
And how can I learn the difference between the clean and unclean? (I only started reading the bible last night so I don't really understand most of it)
 
you guys know what a 'mantra' is?

a word or phrase repeated in meditation so that it becomes ingrained into ones thought process.

one thing God pointed out to me, was that music is mantric. on repeated listening, lyrics or snippets of lyrics start popping into your mind even when you're not listening to the songs.

would you like secular, carnal, deceived rhymes floating into your thoughts? or phrases that honor God?

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

But that is subjective, as your writing or mine. (Words sometimes play like those stroke music notes make your heart (or pen) to beat about)

There are some songs I find (or felt) empty. not as "holy" as supposed to be (The problem is or could be in me) although I don´t like all the music I have on my mobile, because my mood loves to hear Avril Lavigne instead of Petra or those I labeled as Christian music.

Of course, I hate salas music. NO matter it has no lyrics at all (I prefer horror movies than listening to it or the ugly Colombian vallenato)

I know you are serious on what you told (thanks!) There is a "commitment" on the things we often write, and I believe you.

Hmm! Just searching: "I love music. My favorite band is Thousand Foot Krutch. My favorite writing music includes genres like ambient, smooth techno, New Age."

I´m going to see what group is that. I´m old fashioned, but I like (partially) some groups like Journey, Boston, etc. Some techno from Tiësto, some others, like "Clasicals",but I seldom like traditionals, except they sing in native tongue meaning nothing I would feel risky to my beliefs.

Look i don't think it's a good idea, because the same singer that's singing the most of the secular song can sing about sex or about hate, You know, it's really hard ... Lifehouse this band has a good song called ''Everything'' but who knows, they could be singing to a girl and no to Lord, we all have to stop and think about all the things we have to do.. THINK !

Well, my friend, I would encourage you to continue to read and to continue (or begin if you have not begun yet) going to a church that believes in the Bible and is Christ-like.

There are many things that can affect us. The question you might want to ask concerning if something is unclean or clean is: Is this something more likely to set you on the path to being closer to Christ or to the world (or the devil)? If it's not going to make you like Christ then why participate in it? Life is short and you want to give glory to Him while you can. If it has the potential of making you like the world or like the devil, then why take risks with it? Just some questions to help jog the mind :)

Something a little softer I've been listing to is Jonathan Thulin. No denying the beauty that artist creates.
