If you are a negative person you will attract negative people. If you are a positive uplifting person you will attract positive people.

I know someone's going to say, not always. You're right, sometimes negative people attract positive people, but if they really like themselves they aren't going to stick around.

We can wallow in self pity for our entire lives, but what good is that? Instead of woe's me I don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend, new car, whatever, find something good to do and do it. Volunteer, do something nice for someone.

Continually talking and thinking about what is making you miserable isn't going to fix the problem. I am not talking about serious depression, for that you should see a professional.

Go outside take a walk, or a bike ride. Find a good book to read. Do something. You are what you make of your life. God wants you to live it to the fullest so do that.

And Amen and God Bless you!

I so agree with this. :) Misery loves company. Which is probably why they go to other negative people, or yes, even positive people.

Sometimes, it's just best for you and God to work it out ALONE. Not let the whole world know how miserable you are. Now, sometimes, it is good to go to someone and talk to them, such as a counselor or pastor. Especially if it's severe, like suicidal thoughts. (Speaking from experience on this one.)

But books and bike rides are both lovely ways to rejuvenate and to just kind of forget about things for the time being. Also praying helps.

So don't just cope with negativity, overcome it. :)

On a personal level, I know that I have many more positive people being drawn to me since I dedicated my life to Christ. They have noticed a difference in me (I used to be a very negative person) and want to know what is different. I also have better relationships with my husband, family, co-workers, students, etc. They like being around me much more since I have found the peace of our Lord. I cannot praise Him enough for all He does for me every single day.

I was also very negative at one time Toska. It certainly doesn't help to hang out with people who want you to be negative with them.

Opposites Attract... :D

Th moment I get my mind off God is th moment I'm miserable, I know he's th only one who can fix my problems. I've been seriously depressed as well and once again only God could fix it, professionals only succeed for temporary fixing... Doing things help, but focusing on God sets free!

I definitely agree. One of my friends (practically former friend now) is negative about EVERYTHING. Anytime I asked her a light question such as "Hey how are you doing? :D" she would always respond with something like "annoyed" "Terrible" "horrible" etc. while going on about how her life sucks because somebody cut her off and drove 45 instead of 55. It drove me nuts! And there are a few chicks from another forum that I used to frequent who would always start some negative drama of some type. Negative people will never attract me, that's for sure. :p

maybe because you keep missing the letter E out of all the word THE, lol lol Joke, yes I agree keep your focus on God, only he can deal with all your depression.

Good thread, Fenner. Life happens and can knock the wind out of our sails. We have to get up and try again. And again. And again.

Phil 3:12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:35.37
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? ....No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

That is so true. I have found myself pulling away from the negative influences around me and socializing with more positive people.

Me too, sometimes it's hard to get away from it, like if your co-workers complain all the time. There isn't much you can do about that, except not to participate.
