Pope declares there is no hell

For the last six months, Catholic cardinals, bishops and theologians have been deliberating in Vatican City, discussing the future of the church and redefining long-held Catholic doctrines and dogmas. The Third Vatican Council, is undoubtedly the largest and most important since the Second Vatican Council was concluded in 1962. Pope Francis convened the new council to “finally finish the work of the Second Vatican Council.” While some traditionalists and conservative reactionaries on the far right have decried these efforts, they have delighted progressives around the world.


The Third Vatican Council concluded today with Pope Francis announcing that Catholicism is now a “modern and reasonable religion, which has undergone evolutionary changes. The time has come to abandon all intolerance. We must recognize that religious truth evolves and changes. Truth is not absolute or set in stone. Even atheists acknowledge the divine. Through acts of love and charity the atheist acknowledges God as well, and redeems his own soul, becoming an active participant in the redemption of humanity.”

“Through humility, soul searching, and prayerful contemplation we have gained a new understanding of certain dogmas. The church no longer believes in a literal hell where people suffer. This doctrine is incompatible with the infinite love of God. God is not a judge but a friend and a lover of humanity. God seeks not to condemn but only to embrace. Like the fable of Adam and Eve, we see hell as a literary device. Hell is merely a metaphor for the isolated soul, which like all souls ultimately will be united in love with God” Pope Francis declared.

Since we're making stuff up, I rewrote Genesis:

Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent posted it on Facebook and I was deceived." Then the Lord God responded, "Did I not tell you to check first to see if the gossip you are about to spread is true?"

Then Eve said, "But it was about the Pope, Lord."

wow...while this article is clearly a work of fiction...it is also actually a fairly well done piece of satire...i am somewhat impressed...
 
Classic...didn't see that coming...wait actually, maybe I did, they are frequently on the news and frequently 'saying things' so maybe it isn't so classic and maybe I did see that coming...
However I am disappointed...do you know what the belief in the absence of hell does? calms your heart by making you think you are on the neutral road when youre actually on the wide one...like flock thinking they are being taken to pasture when they are actually being taken to be slaughtered...it is a sad thing...:( Lets pray for their eyes to be opened, to overcome this spirit of deception that has entangled so many into believing what is false...
 
The Pope will find the truth to be quite different from what he wants to believe. How would this teaching effect the catholic teaching on purgatory?

I might say that from their false teachings and heresies,
that's what that false prophet and that house of Satan truly believe in disguise, after all.
 
You all do recognize that the article sited here is a complete and utter lie. There has not been a Third Vatican Council, there has been no Ecumenical Council since the 1960s with the Second Vatican Council. The Pope never said any of these things.

it isn't really a 'lie'...it is a work of satire...which within its satirical context would have been properly recognized as fiction...unfortunately some people seem to have taken it at face value...maybe the original author should have put a disclaimer in big letters at the top...

But the way things are going, the article sounds more like a prophecy than fiction.
