On Friday, Sydney police were called to bushland near Liverpool where they found a 39-year-old woman with burns to her face and body, who claimed she had been the victim of a chemical attack.

And on Sunday, Melbourne police found a man aged in his 50s, who had been stabbed at Enterprise Park on Flinders St. The man was taken to hospital but did not survive.

The one link between these two crimes? Both victims were homeless.

A 2005 study in the UK of over 300 homeless men and women revealed that they were 13 times more likely to have experienced violence and 47 times more likely to have been victims of theft, compared to the general population.
Almost one-tenth of the homeless people interviewed in the UK study had experienced sexual assault in the past year, the researchers found.

The study asserted that the majority of violence against the homeless is committed by other homeless people - but a startlingly high rate is committed by the general public. Of the violent acts featured in the UK study, 32 per cent were perpetrated by non-homeless people.

Attacks in Sydney and Melbourne focus attention on crimes against the homeless | News.com.au

There is a growing disconnect with the value of human life. Some lives are worth more than others. Even on this chat I can see some people disregard the suffering of other if they are "different". Even worse a few even justify it.

It has its dangers true but we are entering a more evil time where teenagers are targeting them for sport.

This graph is a bit depressing. Outlining the age of the accused/convicted and the victim in homeless crimes.

Children, which are our future, are growing colder to the plight of others. Why is that?

Children acting poorly probably has a lot to do with the destruction of the family

gosh, i hope not. i'd like to think that families aren't staying together because their children aren't behaved. i think any parent who uses their children as the excuse for why their marriage fell apart aren't taking responsibility for their choices.

did i misunderstand you?

I think you got him reversed. The destruction of families is what is causing the kids to act out. Its okay though

Im just waiting on his rant about how this is all the fault of liberals again.

We are starting to see the fruits of societies current respect for marriage and moral decay.

BBC News - Riot report reveals '500,000 forgotten families'

A lack of support and opportunity for young people contributed to the outbreak of riots in England last summer, an independent report says.

The Riots, Communities and Victims Panel, set up last year, highlights "500,000 forgotten families".

Poor parenting, an inability to prevent reoffending, and a lack of confidence in the police were also cited.

At some people need to snap out of this selfish "if it feels good do it" and grow up.

From what I have seen, the problem is NOT the destruction of families, but spoiling and enabling children. Not showing them that they should love and respect all people. Showing them that they need to work for a living, so they will not rob, steal and kill old people.

My son is the CFO of a company. He is 32 years old. His biggest complaint is the lack of a work ethic among the people he hires, mostly people his age or a bit younger. Except the immigrants, who were incredibly hard, valuing the jobs and money they have here in Canada.

We raised him properly, with ethics and the knowledge of working hard, and caring for others. Since he took over the job, he has given raises and bonuses to the immigrants, and fired the lazy ones. But why are these young people so incredibly lazy? Well, they were never taught to be responsible, whether they had one parent or two.

Our society in the West is going downhill, there is no doubt about it. And sheltering and enabling the next generation won't make it any better.

Parents not able to control their children, absent parents, dysfunctional families are the primary reasons for children acting poorly. :(

Which unfortunately, these days is most families, including church families. Whenever I tell my younger Christian sisters that they have to discipline their children and be consistent, they agree with me and don't do it. As a former teacher, I see school as the starting point for trouble, continuing all the rest of their lives, because of overly permissive parents.

Some single parents are better at raising children who are disciplined and work hard than two parent families. But not many of them left for this generation.

I personally think Video games are more likely causing the lack of respect
for human life. I see the kids living this day in and day out and when they
are in cyber-world they actually can be brain washed. So, I would add this
fact to all opinions regarding home upbringing. Not to speak of the movies.
It is also a fact the demonic is more active than many realize. Just because
you can't see them, does not mean they do not exist. There seems to be many
reasons for the lack of respect for a life. ~ J-K-2

Sadly, J-Kay-2, recent studies have shown that violent video games do NOT predict how children will turn out.

It is the actions of the parents, by not discipling and setting boundaries; and giving their children everything they never had that really influences how they turn out.

Here is a very interesting article that was posted by someone on FB. I have to agree with all the points, and none of them have to do with video games.
