You are feeling a little down, but when you arrive at church several children come and jump onto your lap to hug you and catch you up on which subjects they like, how their birthday went, how much they like your nail polish color and how training the new puppy is going.

*looks at hands*

The pastor's daughters NEVER tell me they like my nail colour.

*pouts*

The second youngest (of five, four girls and a boy) does give me the most enthusiastic hugs, though. It's as best a pouncetacklehug that an eight year-old can put on a full grown man. ^_^

When you can connect with someone with a disability. An fellow in his 30s that I support who has cerebral palsy, cannot walk, cannot speak aside from saying 'yeah', and a few other words and gestures, and can be quite challenging to work with. He had a seizure on Friday (he's not the guy that has the seizure disorder that I have spoken about on here before). Anyways, it scared him after, obviously. I was beside him when it happened, assured him that he's ok. Afterwards, he was in and out of sleep for most of the day.

But we had a heart to heart. I said 'George, you okay bud?' He replied yeah. I said, 'was that a seizure you had?' he replied yeah. 'Kinda scary huh?' He didn't deny it (he usually denies anything about the past that makes him feel sad, mad or uncomfortable). He replied, yeah. I said that 'it's okay, I know how it feels. I have them too, they are pretty scary but your okay now. You rest now, it's okay to feel tired. I get like that too'

i guess it was meaningful to connect with someone on the most fundamental levels of what it means to be human, to empathize even though we are developmentally different.

kids usually stay away from me, I scare them..

when they are not scared and try to hug me it creeps me out honestly.

Hardly any kids at my church.
But we do have an excellent organist who plays wonderful chorals before the service starts.
If only the people would be quiet while he's playing. :(

When I go pick up my kids after not seeing them for a few days, and they HAVE TO scream daddy at the top of my lungs and come running full speed at me. Especially my two (almost three) year old who'll also start bouncing from being excited.

one the most unexpectedly sweet things i discovered is the joy of being an aunt to sweet little ones who just want to play and have you read them books, push them around on their little horsey and laugh with them. it doesn't matter what is going on in my day, whether i have a headache or am dead-tired, you can't help but roll around on the floor with them, play that game, and make those car sounds for the little toy truck. even when you're wearing the wrong shoes and clothing that falls perilously close to a "london bridges" situation. you can't beat it.

it's a rare gift!

When you get all bundled up to clear a 2 foot snow drift away from your garage, only to be greeted by someone who drove for an hour and a half out of concern for you and to help you out. Very touching.

When I woke up my Son this morning and he was all grumpy and said, "quit calling me honey Mom I'm not a baby." Then 2 minutes later he says, "Mom I'm really tired will you hold my hand when we walk down the stairs." Last night in the car when my little girl was sleepy and wanted to hold my hand, I stretched it back and looked at her tiny hand and watched her fall asleep.

When you randomly bump into the brother of a friend you knew in high school far away and have a good time catching up. :)
