It's a holiday of appreciation of St Valentine, a Martyr and priest who died on February 14th. Not invented by greeting card companies, but like with all holidays, society twists them so much so that no one actually knows who St Valentine was and the story.

"Since he was caught marrying Christian couples and aiding any Christians who were being persecuted under Emperor Claudius in Rome [when helping them was considered a crime]. He was imprisioned. The Emperor commanded him to renounce his faith. He did not and was beaten and beheaded on the 14th."

As a man who,when in a relationship with a woman treats her in his heart,mind,body & soul like every day is Valentine's Day...yes,it's "just another day". I would hope that my actions and outward expressions of love to her would be on display 24/7 365..not just on one day of the year where I give her the stereotypical gifts of "love".
