Ephesians 4:17-32 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP]So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, [SUP]18 [/SUP]being darkened in their understanding, [SUP][
m][/SUP]excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; [SUP]19 [/SUP]and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality [SUP][
n][/SUP]for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. [SUP]20 [/SUP]But you did not learn [SUP][
o][/SUP]Christ in this way, [SUP]21 [/SUP]if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, [SUP]22 [/SUP]that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old [SUP][
p][/SUP]self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, [SUP]23 [/SUP]and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, [SUP]24 [/SUP]and put on the new [SUP][
q][/SUP]self, which [SUP][
r][/SUP]in
the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one
of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. [SUP]26 [/SUP]Be angry, and
yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, [SUP]27 [/SUP]and do not give the devil [SUP][
s][/SUP]an opportunity. [SUP]28 [/SUP]He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have
something to share with [SUP][
t][/SUP]one who has need. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Let no [SUP][
u][/SUP]unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such
a word as is good for edification [SUP][
v][/SUP]according to the need
of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. [SUP]30 [/SUP]Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, [SUP][
w][/SUP]by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. [SUP]31 [/SUP]Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. [SUP]32 [/SUP]Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven [SUP][
x][/SUP]you.
When you put verse 24 in context, you can see that Paul is telling us how we are to relate to one another, how we are to show love towards one another, and how we are to live for Christ. This doesn't mean that we no longer have a sinful nature.
Colossians 3:1-17 (NASB)
3 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [SUP]2 [/SUP][SUP][
a][/SUP]Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. [SUP]3 [/SUP]For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [SUP]4 [/SUP]When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Therefore [SUP][
b][/SUP]consider the members of your earthly body as dead to [SUP][
c][/SUP]immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which [SUP][
d][/SUP]amounts to idolatry. [SUP]6 [/SUP]For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come [SUP][
e][/SUP]upon the sons of disobedience, [SUP]7 [/SUP]and in them you also once walked, when you were living [SUP][
f][/SUP]in them. [SUP]8 [/SUP]But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander,
and abusive speech from your mouth. [SUP]9 [/SUP][SUP][
g][/SUP]Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old [SUP][
h][/SUP]self with its
evil practices, [SUP]10 [/SUP]and have put on the new self who is being [SUP][
i][/SUP]renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— [SUP]11 [/SUP]
a renewal in which there is no
distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, [SUP][
j][/SUP]barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and [SUP][
k][/SUP]patience; [SUP]13 [/SUP]bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. [SUP]14 [/SUP]Beyond all these things
put on love, which is [SUP][
l][/SUP]the perfect bond of unity. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Let the peace of Christ [SUP][
m][/SUP]rule in your hearts, to which [SUP][
n][/SUP]indeed you were called in one body; and [SUP][
o][/SUP]be thankful. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Let the word of [SUP][
p][/SUP]Christ richly dwell within you, [SUP][
q][/SUP]with all wisdom teaching and admonishing [SUP][
r][/SUP]one another with psalms
and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing [SUP][
s][/SUP]with thankfulness in your hearts to God. [SUP]17 [/SUP]Whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
When we put verse 10 in context -- again, it is telling us how we are to relate to one another, since we are in Christ. It doesn't say that we no longer have a sinful nature.
