You know we hear message after message about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Noah and others just to name a few. A lot of times preachers and pastors forget to preach on or about the godly women that have been found throughout the bible and in doing so, leave out many wonderful lessons to be learned from the faith of godly women.

What are some of your favorite stories that teach wonderful truths associated with women and faith?

I will start with one of my favorites and that would be the story of Hannah as found in 1st Samuel. Can you imagine a childless woman who was desiring a child so bad that she begged God and even promised to give up the child to the service of the Lord.

Hannah was so faithful that she even named the child (Heard of God) to honor the God of heaven for answering her prayer request that she might have favor and to get out from under the bitter prodding and affliction that was placed upon her by (the other wife) who had numerous children. She vowed a vow unto the Lord and she plead with tears and God heard from heaven and honored the prayer request of this faithful, broken woman.

As ole Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story is a son named Samuel (heard of God) and one of the greatest prophets of the O.T. who would anoint many Kings including King David.

I bet (Peninnah) didn't have any children that went on to be one of the greatest men of God that the bible has to offer. Thank God for faithful women who have kept the faith when the men have failed to do so!

Virgin Mary. Despite all what has been said about her and that her fiance was going to kill her, her fear as a pregnant woman without a husband, and during her own pregnancy she went and stayed with Elizabeth to help her because Elizabeth was old and pregnant too. Then when Virgin Mary was about to give birth, she was denied to stay at a lot of places, she had to travel on a donkey in the cold weather and gave birth to the Lord of Lords and King of Kings in a manger!!!! ALL of this, she was obedient and faithful. And so God rewarded her BIG TIME as being His mother! :)

Too funny! HAHAH Yes I can dig it. :) My wife is godly and virtuous and she keeps me in check with verse quotes and a cast iron skillet out of the book of, "I will ring your bell if you don't get in line boy!" HAHAH :)

Amen brother! He who finds a wife finds a good thing and is favoured from the Lord..I need to find those scriptures!

I actually hear a great many pastors preach on Esther and Ruth. Some speak on Mary (Jesus' mother), Mary (with the alabaster box) and the Samaritan woman. I hear lots of preachers speak on the woman with the issue of blood and Rahab, too. Out of those, who are the godly examples? Mainly, I'd say all but the woman with the issue of blood and Rahab. I think both of their stories focus more on faith. The woman with the issue of blood is a faith story, believing that she could be healed by a mere touch, in a culture where women didn't touch men they were not married to or mother's of and especially if they were menstruating. To touch a Rabbi in that culture with that issue took amazing courage and strength, but I don't know if she'd be viewed as an example of godliness, unless a pastor was speaking on the traits required, one of which would be faith.

For me, my favorites are Ruth and the Samaritan woman and Mary with the alabaster box. :)

Mary was definitely blessed among women because of her faith and she definitely endured much. Imagine here watching the brutality of the crucifixion of her 1st born son as well as the brutality of him being beaten beyond recognition and knowing that her son would save his people from their sins.

I've always enjoyed the Book Of Ruth. Her kindness and love for her Daughter in Laws always reminds me of Christ's love for us.

Beautiful topic.

After reading your post, the first woman that comes to mind is the woman that washed Jesus feet. She came into His presence, carrying an alabaster box filled with costly ointment, walking amongst those that believed in their heart, for whatever reason, she should not be among them. That she couldn't go before Jesus. That ointment was costly from what I've read probably cost the sum of a years wage in that time. She knelt, broke open the box, poured it ALL out on the Master's feet and washed them, drying them with her hair. She knelt in the presence of scoffers and in humility, knowing who and what she was, she touched Jesus. And Jesus said, "this will be for a memorial of her." Wow. He allowed Her in his presence. In my heart, it's a powerful passage in the bible. That moment was between her and Jesus. She got her blessing.

The second woman that comes to mind is the woman at the well. I loved that story because Jesus was there WAITING for her. He didn't come as she was drawing the water, no, He was there knowing she was on her way and He was going to visit with her. He asked her a question and she answered. Truthfully. She, like the woman with the alabaster box, knew who she was and I am sure what others thought of her, but she spoke the truth. Then she realizes the man in front of her knows as well and then she finds out WHO He is and she goes and tells everyone. Jesus met with her. Talked with her. Changed her.

Very rarely do people bring up those kinds of individuals when talking about the "greats" in the bible. Yes, Sarah, Rebecca, Abigail, Deborah, Rahab, Esther, Mary, and others are there and spoken of but in my heart those that were the castoffs in the society of that time when they encountered or met the Lord, their lives were changed. That ministers so much to my heart because the bible says God is not a respecter of persons. Gives me hope. If he can do it for that woman, He can (and has) done it for me. I know what it is to face rejection due to whatever...depending on who is doing it and why he/she feels they need to...LOL...and it does hurt, but when I take it to Jesus and get into His presence oh my...I know I'm loved and cherished. I'm His child. His daughter.

I am an ordinary, simple woman, am no better than the next person. I trust the bible, know God is real and am just striving to made heaven my home. I see women like that that went through so much in their world and dealt with prejudices or injustice from their peers and yet Jesus saw them as a person of worth, someone with importance. I love God for that. He is so good.

This is probably not the type of post you wanted on here, but I in someway, somehow just wanted to express that what these women were and how Jesus ministered to them has given me faith. After all, Jesus Christ came to seek and save that which was lost, He went into the highways and byways, He touched the commoner. He ministered to them.

Deborah, the prophetess was undoubtly one of the greatest OT persons who exercised a prophetic ministry!

Through her wonderful prayer ministry Israel had rest for forty years! Judges chapters 4 & 5 (esp. 5v31)

There was not a man about who could touch her for her spirituality, prayer, authority and power; this wonderful godly spiritual woman certainly stood before the Throne of God in spirit, just like Elijah did (1Kings 17v1), operating the same kind of ministry referred to in 1Tim 2v1-8!

The idea that a woman cannot exercise a prophetic or apostolic ministry during the age of Grace is so laughable; but unfortunately every generation has its male chauvinists! Gal 3v28, Eph 4v11-16.

So, dear sisters, seek the Lord Jesus for the ministry that He has for you, as the dark evil days of the Great Tribulation rapidly approach. Isaiah 40v31, Matt 6v6, 24v15-22, James 4v6-8

At that moment in time do you think she understood what it meant that 'he would save his people from their sins'?
Do you think that she may have been discouraged by his death? As in, what's going on? why is he dying? I thought he was meant to save us?....If so, that would be anguish upon anguish!

Those three are excellent examples of faith and in a joking manner I ask, how many pastors have you sat under and or hear on a regular basis. HAHAH ;) One thing I enjoy about Ruth is the (kinsman redeemer) underlying truth that is found through it's pages. Thanks for the thoughts on the women of faith above. Like you said about the woman healed of the issue of blood...The just shall live by faith, she believed and was healed. AMEN to that!

For some reason Deborah the Judge catches my interest although there's nothing much spoken about her. But she was considered a prophet of Israel and was good to her people. She was a woman of power in the old testament and that's something rare.

Yes but I didn't think 'putting away secretly' meant murdering.

    "put her away quietly" doesn't mean kill...it means sending her somewhere to have the baby in secret and then having nothing to do with her again.

    Strong's defines 'put' in that passage as:

to set free

  1. to let go, dismiss, (to detain no longer)
  2. a petitioner to whom liberty to depart is given by a decisive answer
  3. to bid depart, send away
  4. to let go free, release
  5. a captive i.e. to loose his bonds and bid him depart, to give him liberty to depart
  6. to acquit one accused of a crime and set him at liberty
  7. indulgently to grant a prisoner leave to depart
  8. to release a debtor, i.e. not to press one's claim against him, to remit his debt
  9. used of divorce, to dismiss from the house, to repudiate. The wife of a Greek or Roman may divorce her husband.

I think she understood completely what was happening as she had been told by Joseph (in a dream) by an angel of God what to call Jesus and what he would do. His half brothers James and Jude were unbelievers until after the resurrection and then went on to write two books of the bible after converting and believing.

She could of been discouraged by his death, but guarantee 3 days later she got motivated :)

Yes and her price is far above rubies. I know that I don't deserve my awesome wife and she is a great blessing from God. For real! Many good scriptures in Proverbs.
