Firstly, just wanted to say awesome idea for a topic!

I guess it is kind of cliche, but I always liked Esther's (original name being Hadassah) story. Saved her cousin/adopted father Mordecai, saved her entire race of people, and even destroyed the enemies (Haman and his conspirators) plotting against both the captive jews and the empire (though of course Mordecai helped too.) Plus when you consider the fact that King Ahasuerus has a strong historical probability for being whom the ancient Greeks called Xerxes I (same Xerxes that wiped out the 300 Spartans), that just makes Esther seem even more epic. She must have been a very beautiful and also righteous woman indeed to actually make an infamous polygamist like Ahasuerus respect her enough to allow her to promote Mordecai and give him the royal ring, which is the power to use the royal seal (using royal seals in ancient times, especially in the Medo-Persian Empire, was a very BIG deal.)
Awesome post...what is a trip is my mother and I were discussing this exact topic not an hour ago and one of the first posts I read is this one. We were discussing how Esther had the guts and gumption to make a stand while being wise and listening to Mordecai which preserved the Jewish race. Just think, at the very moment that Haman thought his plan to rid the land of the Jews and his chief Jewish Enemy (Mordecai) would come together, he was taken in his own plan and hung on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai...I wonder what he was thinking as he choked out to death and then woke up in hell? He had murderous intent and no murder hath eternal life dwelling in him. Back to Esther, she was a very godly, faithful servant of the Lord and we can learn much from her stand of faith...thanks for the awesome post! I love it that a law was written by the Persian King which allowed the Jews to defend themselves and if I remember right they lost no one that night. Praise God for his provisions even in the face of the enemies.

The widow and her son which Elisha stayed with.
This is a good one as well. I wonder what she thought about the endless jug of oil and the proverbial (wheat barrel) that never ran out. Can you imagine being so desperate for food that you have decided to eat your last meal and lay down to die? WOW! I wonder how long she remembered the prophet of God and the provisions that came with him? Until her death probably.

P.S. I have been asked if I'm Catholic. I am not Catholic, I'm Coptic Orthodox! :)
Coptic Orthodox? Is that like Greek Orthodox or what is the difference between what you believe and a Catholic? I ask out of ignorance of what a Coptic Orthodox believes.

Highway,

The Scripture does not lable this Mary as the "Mary of Bethany", but what the words on the page say is "a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house"- The debate about the mentioning of "Marys", is kind of trivial. I see it like this Mary Magdalen was a follower of Christ and Martha's sister is said to sit in a position of learning, such as those who follow Jesus... that's why we read this, "which also sat at Jesus' feet" and this "but one thing is needful"- this is not talking about that moment, but this Mary had chose & was a follower, she was a disciple "a hearer & a doer" who had been "forgiven much"

It is okay if you are of your own opinion, but mine is far from being incorrect.
Actually the Bible does label that this was Mary of Bethany.
John 11.1-2
11 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
[SUP]2 [/SUP](It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

Anytime Mary is mentioned with Martha it is Mary of Bethany.

I understand your main point completely. You make a great point and an accurate point.

That said, you have responsibility as a Christian to speak the truth and study to show yourself approved. You may think I am being kind of trivial, but God's word and the truths contained in it are not trivial. People hang in the balance of eternal redemption or damnation based on what comes out of our mouths.

There are many times you seem to be very gnostic in your approach to the word. This could lead you to be easily deceived. This is why knowing and understanding the word completely and not thinking things are trivial is paramount to your walk.

I could care less if you think I was wrong. Lay down your pride and gnostic semantics, they do not enhance your otherwise good understanding of the word.

I agree with the statements about us speaking the truth and cutting it straight. Everything we say has eternal consequences especially when dealing with the souls that God has allowed to come into our lives. We can make or break the Power of God's Spirit if you will and it's ability to accompany the Word if we add to or take away from the truth of the truth.
