I splurge on electronics that are well rated, and on vehicles that are reliable (I buy used, so maybe this isn't a splurge).
I spend more for clothing that fits properly.
I'm all on-board for spending extra on shirts that don't require ironing!
I'm willing to pay a higher electric bill in order to sleep cold at night in summer, and be nice and toasty in my home in winter.

I am a tightwad about hotels. I'm all for finding the cheapest hotel in town, as long as there's not a threat of being mugged in the parking lot.
I bought a fuel efficient car simply because I hate paying for gasoline so much.
I live with slow internet because I'm too cheap to upgrade. *grin*

I'm in the process of switching to organic foods when I can. It tends to be more expensive, so I try harder not to waste anything. Extra veggies go in the next morning's omelette, a salad gets put on the next lunch's sandwich, meats might go in a casserole or a ham or chicken salad sandwich filling. At least I'm trying to be more frugal this way. Some times it's an organizational challenge. Right now, I've got leftover ham in the oven that I stir fried with a squash that needed to be used up along with some peppers and tomato, Italian cheeses. I've got some bread and egg in there too, so I'm attempting a strata, which I've never done before.

Anyhoo, I see the organic thing as a lifestyle change, not a splurge. Yes, some penny pinching is involved..

It turned out fantast-o-rific! Definitely gonna make it again...if I can remember what I did. I really should write some of these things down.

I agree with this, a hotel is pretty much where you sleep, so it doesn't have to be that fancy.

That being said...

I've stayed in cheap hotels, and then I've stayed in a Hilton hotel in Chicago. Granted, I didn't pay for it (a family friend did, he paid for a trip to Chicago for my sister and I. He travels a lot and racks up those hotel points) and wow. I'm not sure anything will ever compare. Mainly because I will never spend money to duplicate that, ha.

uhm... my splurges would include:

Books, games, tech stuff (geek toys if yo will), travel, art supplies and I guess anyone in need.

Penny Pinches- I refuse to spend a lot of money on fast food when I can cook my own meals which are healthier and tastier than fast food.

Having to BUY fruits and vegetables seems pointless to me when I could grow my own!!

Movie theater tickets because I'd rather watch the movie at home anyways.

I guess at the end of the day what it comes down to is I like to save and think about the future. You never know what's going to happen so it's best to be prepared.

I learned that one the hard way myself. I bought a pair of 15 dollar shoes at walmart, dr scholls brand. You would think they would be good shoes. They were comfy, but they fell apart within a month. I took them back and begrudgingly forked over some extra cash for a decent pair

I'm a frugalist. The only thing I ever splurge on is Red Bull. You guys might not consider something like a mere drink splurging, but I do.....3.69 a can for the ones I buy. Sometimes I allow myself to get two to three of em a day. Need to cut that one out.

I scrimp on food to the extreme. Like, if I'm having difficult paying the bills....first thing I cut out is food, I just buy a 5 pound bag of white rice and there I am, all I need for a good while. I skimp on clothes unless it's work clothes, I'll only shop at discount retailers or places like good will. I'm an expert at surviving on a shoestring budget. Even when I don't have to penny pinch, I'm still a cheap skate compared to a normal person. lol

Splurges.
Dresses
performance art - concerts, ballets, symphony...those experiences are priceless to me.
furniture/things for my apartment - i love my space and have really specific taste.
body products...im a sucker for feminine things or things that smell pretty.
travel ... combination of splurge and penny pinch. i never check luggage, never pay car rental insurance, but i really love visiting family/friends or going on trips. a lot of times within my state its cheaper to take a flight between cities than paying for gas or renting so i like to keep an eye out for discounted airfare. (can we bring ryanair to the states please?)

Penny pinches.

no cable - didnt even own a tv until last dec. won't subscribe to cable. ill be shocked if it's still around in 10 years. i just buy 3 month gift cards for netflix and hulu plus.
water - tap water in my city is absolutely vile, and the markup on individual bottled water is obscene . i buy water by the gallon and just refill my water bottle throughout the day.
car - always used. never had a desire for fancy cars, so i just stick with whatever i have until it gives out
tires
tights - haven't met a brand of tights that i cant get a run in. just buy them cheap in bulk every few months off amazon.
books, sheet music - public or local university libraries...particularly checking out ebooks from the library to my kindle. its free ninety-nine.
physical movies, cds - obsolete. i recently gave away every dvd, vhs, and cd that i own, don't intend to buy anymore..takes up space, you have to store them, creates visual clutter, etc. there are plenty of free or cheap legal streaming services.
instruments - ive always bought instruments below market value on craigslist or from people who are moving away/giving up on their music hobby...ive scored great deals on mallet percussion, acoustic guitars, and pianos, and actually prefer used instruments over brand new
i go to fedex on the rare occasions i need to have something printed out, don't have a printer.
general basic staples - i buy at the dollar tree...sponges, aluminum foil, rubbing alcohol, etc...i refuse to pay more than a dollar.
