Hi I'm a 14 year old baptist and I read an article on this site asking about baptists and such. Well a lot of what was asked wasn't true. So I'd like to try to answer any questions you have about Baptists

Raised as a Southern Baptist, I was taught that we (unlike the Catholics and other liberal Christians) did not drink and we did not listen to any secular music. For ages, I thought that John Lenin was Vladimir Lenin. We certainly did not dance.

The whole: no dancing, no drinking, shouldnt go to movies, shouldnt listen to music if its not gospel, shouldnt do this, shouldnt do that, why arent you at church 3-4 times a week... Like seriously, it was a pain. Not to mention the always enoyable and thinly veiled political sermons around elections time hinting you arnet a christian if you dont vote for this guy.

I love to dance. I listen to pop bluegrass rock and roll even on occasions. I don't think drinking is a sin but I don't like bc my moms a drunk. I'm a southern Baptist. I don't dance to Gospel but I think that's more out of respect. Please don't talk about how bad you think baptist are bc this thread is supposed to be for questions. It is NOT for berating religion. You religion is no better than mine or anyone else's so stop acting like it. I realize I'm a child but I know that REAL christans don't talk badly of others

Baptist is a denomination, not a religion. Okay, a question: Why do Baptists believe it's not godly to baptise infants?

I've been a baptist for years and years and i have seen a lot of babies baptized in the church. Where did you hear this one from?

Great, Nod! I've noticed this is a common doctrine in the Baptist church of Australia. I'm not Baptist but one of my best friends is. We had a falling out at high school arguing for/against infant baptism. I was for either option, he was against anything but full-immersion as a teen or adult. It got ugly at the time, but our friendship remains strong.
The one i went wouldnt baptize people until they excpeted christ which infants cant do obviously, i think the youngest i saw was 4 or 5 get baptized once.

I've never been a member of a Baptist church, but when I moved 2 months ago to a new city I wanted to check a very popular Baptist church here in town, so I went. I was walking from the parking lot to the church when I noticed something....90% of the guys walking toward the church were wearing tuxedos and 90% of the girls were wearing long skirts. To say that I felt underdressed would be an understatement. I was wearing jeans, knee-high boots, a shirt and a coat, and I felt like I was walking in hello kitty pjs. Very awkward.
I don't know if this the case in every Baptist church, and I'm pretty sure it's not....but that wasn't a good first experience haha. The teaching was great though, and I loved the hymns

It is more typical of baptist culture, but you should visit the south. Baptist churches in the south are a whole different culture from baptist churches in California.I don't know if this the case in every Baptist church, and I'm pretty sure it's not....but that wasn't a good first experience haha. I will sometimes wear jeans and a t shirt to church, but only when my church clothes aren't cleaned.
Reformed Baptists are significantly different from non-reformed baptists though, but a lot of the conservative culture is the same. Separation from the world is a big deal in baptist circles, so there's a lot of things we don't do that say, an Acts 29 church would do.
I have two friends, same age as I, who go to a traditional baptist church in East Prarie, MO... and they wear full tuxedos to church, but no one else does. The most dressed up my church gets, is we have one guy who wears sweater vests with his dress shirt. Jeans or long jean skirts are common. A lot of it has to do with the culture of the church as well.

Yeah I've heard about the ''baptist culture'' before, but since one my friends is Baptist but less traditional, I thought there was gonna be more variety there. I was wrong obviously lol. It made me feel so uncomfortable that that's actually one of the reasons why I didn't go back (there are other reasons though). Maybe it sounds stupid, but I just didn't like the fact that I needed to go shopping to feel comfortable there haha. I liked the culture, but it just wasn't for me.
But I found a great church after visiting that one, so everything's good
We are non-denom, but we are Reformed in doctrine, we do hymns/contemporary music, we have a great board of elders, and the small groups are amazing. At the end, the doctrine and the fellowship/discipleship is what caught my heart.PS. I don't know what an Acts 29 church is.
