I think she is just looking for people who live in the same region of the states. Southerners are sometimes made fun of because we have a "hillbilly" accent, I think the accent may make some people think we are not as intelligent as people from other regions
There is also the stigma attached that southerners are beer drinking, country music listening, truck driving red necks who don't wear shoes, only eat things that we kill, and are technologically behind the rest of the country.
When I have traveled to other parts of the country, I have encountered the whole "your accent is so cute" thing and have had people show surprise that I am actually an intelligent woman with a college degree. I have also had people look at my feet to see if I am wearing shoes (I am not kidding about this). It is all pretty humorous when you think about it
Sorry if this seems like a rant, that is not my intention at all. I have friends from all over the country and in Canada that I love dearly and I know they love me--country accent and all
Oh! I see it! i have to say I must be
southerner, though.
Elisha loves to walk without shoe, like Joy, but I hate to do it. He! He!
I have a friend from Georgia: Lois Medrano (a good preacher, untill I knew him) and thanks to pastor Doug Hardman and his wife, I approach Texan ways (I liked his accent and his preaching). I have no idea on how he became a principal in a college in the States (Ha! Ha!) It mighy be he trusted his life to the Lord, while avoiding those jokes we use for the "andinos", because THESE have ruled Venezuela for several decades, although "we" consider them dull people, slow, etc., but I wish having born on those hills, because I love their food and manners.
I am from the SOUTH! (South América)
Ha! Ha!
