I don't have the patience to let my hair grow. :)

I remember, though, when I 'freaked' out in my mid-twenties and cut all my hair off, I had a dream that I was working on some ministry whatnot at church and there was a handsome Christian guy there with long hair (which I like) and I approached him and said, at some random point, in a forward way that I am not truly capable of in reality, "I like long hair on guys," and he said, with a touch of disdain in his voice, "but not on women, apparently." And I was so embarrassed.

LOL. Aren't our brains strange things? I think I just felt slightly off-kilter having chopped all my hair off. Now, however, as much as I say I want to grow my hair long again, I just keep cutting it.

Nothing more beautiful than long hair down to the waist IMO.

I am growing my hair simply because I WANT IT to be long, only reason I cut it was because I wanted to donate to locks of love. My guy told me long or short hair, he doesn't mind as long as I am happy, one time he saw me admiring purple hair and told me to get it if it would make me happy.

Waist long hair can be very painful when worn down. :) Mine was that long for quite some time. I was constantly sitting on it and it would pull if I didn't braid/ponytail it. It falls into your food, your work, water fountains, gets caught in the zipper of your dress, you get tangled up in it while you are sleeping and pull it when you roll over. And the weight of it.... Just sayin'

Not to mention how long it takes to wash/dry.

I'm happy with about 2/3 of that now. Less painful and inconvenient. Personally, I think my hair is healthier for it.

They didn't call the movie Tangled for nuttin

Well I do think there there is a certain feminine allure about long healthy locks. Up until Friday my hair was all the way down to my hips, but I just got 4 inches chopped off because I hadn't cared for the ends as well as I should have. Now that I have freshly trimmed ends I'm going to take better care of it and grow it back to hip length. I just love long hair on myself. It can surely be a headache but I almost always wear it or braided or in a bun so it's manageable.

It's true that it does take forever to grow. It took me 4 years to grow my hair from just below my shoulders down to my hips. The things we girls do :p

I always have shoulder length hair until somebody told me that I will look better having a long hair. From then on I always have armpit length. For 3 years I have my hair grow up to mid-back. Last year, I let it grow up to waist for a special occasion, and cut it back to mid-back after. But I always have it cut in layer. I have it long because I learned to love having a long hair though sometimes if I am in a hurry I wish them really really short. :D

I was once in the lounge room chatting with a friend a few months ago, and a guy there wanted me to cut all my hair off and he wasn't even joking. I don't know what to feel about that. :)

I loved having long hair, but mine is really fine so it is straight with no volume. Though it was cool(-ish) in high school, it certainly wouldn't look professional now.

I did like being able to just tie it in a knot to get it out of my face. =)

Well I thought I would chime in on this topic; for me when it comes to ladies hairstyle there are two types that I typically like, the first being mid neck length hair that is layered and the second being shoulder blade length, which gives it that full flowing healthy look...:D. But that's just me!

I love having long hair, mine is waist length. I think I've had every style except to buzz it all off (including blood red, which I would love to do again, but my mother said it would make her sad-she's so cute). I think of the ways scripture addresses hair, like Israelites taking a female captive and wanting to marry her would have her shave her head, clip her fingernails, and let her mourn her family a month before espousing her. Or the woman who washed the feet of Christ with her tears, and dried them with her hair. I've used that image as a devotional meditation of sorts. I used to work in an assisted living facility, and in the evening I would have 8 or 10 people's feet to wash, and I would imagine that they were Jesus. So one day I had a woman whose feet were very dirty, and I asked myself, if I didn't have a towel would I be willing to let down my hair to dry her feet with. I did have a towel, thankfully, but the internal stuff that happened when I was meditating on that question was intense. It was like, well of course I would, but it even thinking about it was humbling. Try visualizing taking your beautiful hair and cleaning someone up with it, what a way to nail your vanity to the cross huh? I also value modesty, and have had to use my hair as a covering before. I also just enjoy having it long. So it's not like it's all just for the future spouse, but lately I've been praying about donating some to locks of love, and I had the thought that I would grow it out for my husband, and donate some when we get engaged if he approves, and give him the option. After all, people will still need wigs in a year, and then I'll have more left after donating some. I find it easy to care for, it does require a couple hours down to dry, but then I just twist it up and either tie it in a knot or put a pen through. I don't know what the difficulty is, to grow it out... you simply wait. I guess that can be hard. As for pulling, I don't find it terribly painful, you get used to it. I actually like the secure feeling of a nice tight style, but it makes me look like a mean authoritarian lady LOL Plus I've worked with people who have aggressive behavioral problems, so they pull hair, and pinch, and smoosh their hands in your face. =)

For the record, I don't think there's anything wrong with short hair on a woman. Unless they could pass for a guy, but then the issue isn't with the hair so much as with excepting who God made you to be. Everyone has their own preferences though. I once had a guy tell me he would date me if my hair was shorter LOL I was like "in your dreams pal!" =P

NOT when your hair is thin.
One of my daughters has fine, thin hair and it looks much cuter and healthier in a shorter (shoulder length) cut. My hair is waist length now at the longest point (it's layered) but it could use a good trim.

my hair is waist length, though you'd never guess it. i lose almost a foot of length because it's curly.

about every 18-24 months i whack off about a foot and donate it. and the process starts all over.

of course, the fun part of having curly hair is how you can be incognito when you straighten your hair. i go to my usual places. and people are like "don't i know you?".

or just the look on their face as they're trying to remember how they know me. fun.

I can attest to each point here as well, being a fellow curly-haired gal. I once straightened my hair AND wore my glasses to work, and at the meeting that morning, one of my coworkers stared at me for the longest time trying to figure out who I was before he realized it was me!

There's pretty much no use of me straightening it in the summer, because as soon as it's humid, POOF.

I'm not quite sure what the OP means, but the only person I grow my hair for is myself and when I donate it. It will likely never be short because I don't like it short and it's curly and doesn't work that way anyway, but I would hope my husband would be fine with whatever.

No, i would not spend years growing my hair down to my waist on the off chance i may get married to someone who may or may not like women with hair down to their lower extremities.
