Sleep is valuable, guys. Osamu Tezuka (creator of Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion fame) lived on only 3 hours of sleep for most of his working life. He died at the young age of 60 (no, not because of the lack of sleep but it certainly would've contributed).

I sleep with a fan on at night, just for the noise (but it also helps keep things cool during the summer). I don't know how people stand to sleep with absolute silence!

Jules, I've also read that you need to keep the same sleep schedule even if you're off a day. I just can't bring myself to get up at 7 am on my day off. :)
i know right? i have to be listening to my christian radio when going to sleep or else it feels wrong. i also require the fan to constantly be on high or i begin to sweat and its gross i get hot very easily.

That just isn't going to happen :D I'm not giving up sleeping in on my day off. On all other days, I will surrender to the day people. On my day off, I refuse. :) Night people will some day rule the world! :)

Thanks a lot, Tintin. I only have 19 more years to live. *sigh*
(I hope my math is correct. I'm too tired to do math. If I'm wrong, don't tell BananaPie :) )

I put off my studies and assignment until the end of the week, so I'm operating on little sleep.

Thankfully my instructor is letting us take our test open book tomorrow. I can try out sleep osmosis for the next few hours..

OK I read the article. I already knew that recovery/catch-up sleep on the weekends only works partially, but its interesting that it said that inflammation in the body increases with sleep deprivation. When I know I won't be able to get enough sleep I always take an aspirin before bed (I drink a little water first so it doesn't harm my stomach lining), and it always seems to help me sleep better. These days I've also tried sipping about 1/4 glass of wine too when I know I won't get much sleep and the combination of the wine and aspirin seem to really help me sleep better, but its not good for the stomach lining, which is why I don't take those on an empty stomach.

Oh and another thing I used to do to help me sleep was to take melatonin. I'd take 1mg about 2 hours before bedtime and it does make me sleepy and help me sleep but it seemed to give me these horrible nightmares so I stopped taking it.

Aw, Jullianna. I didn't mean it like that. Not to worry, though. Tezuka was a manga creator, director and anime animator, whereas you're a kick-butt, crime-fighter. :D

I'm so busy most days I don't know whether I found a rope or lost my horse (Yep...I'm a Texan). My sleep patterns are a train wreck. I don't know whether other singles burn the candle at both ends, but I wanted to share this article with you.

And when I finish reading these forums, I'm going to eat dinner and crash. :)

A very interesting article...

Many years ago (more than I care to remember) when the "troubles" in N Ireland were really bad, I was involved in a line of work which mean't that I could be working for indefinite periods of time during a working day, at one time over a six week period I was working 24 hour shifts with no more than 8 hours off to the next shift which again could last up to 24 hours. After a six week period of this my GP (doctor) put me off work for a week suffering from exhaustion and I must confess that I felt absolutly awful, I just felt like death warmed up. The week off certainly helped, but it didn't lift the terrible tiredness I felt, which took quite a bit longer to shift after I went back to work and the situation on the ground allowed my shifts to last a more reasonable 8-12 hours...

After I left that job and before I went to university, one night I had been out with (Christian) friends and I didn't get to bed until about 4.30am and then was up at 9am, later on that evening I was feeling pretty rough (jaded) and so when I was at a prayer meeting I went forward for prayer, the guy who was praying for me simply asked me the question, "what time did you go to bed at last night" and so ofcourse then I twigged on why I was feeling so awful, the Lord was telling me though this preacher/teacher that I needed to get my required sleep every night. This info has served me well ever since, as I need at least 7 hours a night to function properly the next day, if I even get only six on one night I have make it up the next night, or the reduced sleep off the 2nd night really hits me badly the 2nd day of a reduced night's sleep.

Just in finishing, something else that shows just how important proper sleep is, a torture technique used on suspects is "sleep depravation", after being kept awake for a few days, you are willing to tell your inquistors anything they want to know just so that you can fall asleep...

So, do try and get your proper sleep brothers and sisters...
