Hi Brother Hizikyah! I agree with as much of what you said that I understand, but maybe I missed something? Who is is Yahshua ben Nun and what does he have to do with this? Sorry I'm special ed. =P

''Today,'' after so long a time, as it has been said: Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. If Yahshua (ben Nun) had given them rest he would not have spoken afterward of another day. Therefore, there remains the keeping of the Sabbath (word G#4520) to the people of Yahweh, For he who has entered into His rest (word G#2663) has also ceased from his own works, as Yahweh did from His. Therefore, let us be zealous to enter into that rest (word G#2663), so that no one may fall after the same example of unbelief."

No problem sister.

This verse has been translated 2 different ways, one as "Jesus" the other as "Joshua"

English Standard Version
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.

King James Bible
For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

"Joshua" son of Nun (Yahshua ben Nun) is the one being talked about here, not Yahshua the Messiah (Jesus).

You know then the Israylites entered the promised land, yet this was not the real promised land, it was a foreshadow of the kingdom of Yahweh in the 1000yr reign.

Thus, "a promise of entering His rest remains"

A promise we are still looking forward to today! and the 7th day Sabbath is the weekly shadow picture of this 1000yr reign to remind us hat we have to look forward to, if one reads Hebrews 4 with this in mind, one will understand the true meaning of it. Not some modern, no understanding, 2000 yrs detached gentile butchering of it. (not implying you look at it like this, but it is commonly misunderstood)

Thank you brother.

Yahchanan (John) 4:24, "Yahweh is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth."

I just started keeping the Sabbath, in kinda my own little way, a couple weeks ago...all the arguing and people telling me I didn't have to do anything, made me wanna do it more. SO this last couple Sabbaths were my joy. Now I understand why God wants us to call it a delight. Its not a day to do or not do a bunch of stuff, but a day acceptable to the Lord (meaning nothing abominable. It's like Jesus in the garden, asking his disciples if they could not stay awake one hour, I think the Sabbath is just one day God wants with us. If we can't give it to him now, will we be able to in the future? Further more a Sabbath or Sabbaths is the fulfillment of the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost)

Keeping Sabbath has been a blessing to me. It has caused me to really think about the beginning of mankind and what must it have been like for them? They heard the voice of very God Almighty speaking! saw Him prove what a force He was.

The adversary is cunning, and we need always remember to clothe ourselves with all the armor of Messiah and ask for grace to keep us.

God has been a real blessing to me. He is amazing and keeps me going. I can't wait till I enter HIS rest according to Hebrews chapter 4.

4 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. 2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, becausethey were not united by faith with those who listened.[a] 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said,“As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest,’”

although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” 5 And again in this passage he said,
“They shall not enter my rest.”

6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God[b] would not have spoken of another day later on. 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Heb 4

Praise Yahweh!

1 Corinthians 2:9, "But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the mind of man the things which Yahweh has prepared for those who love Him."

A very important principle in understanding this...

Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

The Greek for "first" here is...

G3391
μία
mia
mee'-ah
Irregular feminine of G1520; one or first: - a (certain), + agree, first, one, X other.

Means "first".

Greek for "of the" (notice day is in italics? Means it was not in the original)...

G3588
ὁ, ἡ, τό
ho hē to
ho, hay, to
The masculine, feminine (second) and neuter (third) forms, in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom): - the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.

Means "of the".

Greek for "week" here is...

G4521
σάββατον
sabbaton
sab'-bat-on
Of Hebrew origin [H7676]; the Sabbath (that is, Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension a se'nnight, that is, the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications: - sabbath (day), week.

So as Dr. Bullinger points out in the Companion Bible, it should read...

first, &c. = first day of the sabbaths, i.e. the first day for reckoning the seven sabbaths to Pentecost. It depended upon the harvest (Deu_16:9), and was always from the morrow after the weekly sabbath when the wave sheaf was presented (Lev_23:15). In Joh_20:1 this was the fourth day after the Crucifixion, "the Lord's Passover. "Compare App-156. This was by Divine ordering. But in A.D. 57 it was twelve days after the week of unleavened bread, and therefore more than a fortnight later than in A.D. 29.

Acts 20:7 should read...

Act 20:7 And upon the first of the Sabbaths, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

It is referring to the first Sabbath in the count of seven Sabbaths to Pentecost...

Lev 23:15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
Lev 23:16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.

It is often claimed that “God instituted the Sabbath in Eden” because of the connection between the Sabbath and creation in Exodus 20:11. Although God's rest on the seventh day (Genesis 2:3) did foreshadow a future Sabbath law, there is no biblical record of the Sabbath before the children of Israel left the land of Egypt. Nowhere in Scripture is there any hint that Sabbath-keeping was practiced from Adam to Moses.

The Word of God makes it quite clear that Sabbath observance was a special sign between God and Israel: “The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested” (Exodus 31:16–17).

The Sabbath was given to Israel, not the church. The Sabbath is still Saturday, not Sunday, and has never been changed. But the Sabbath is part of the Old Testament Law, and Christians are free from the bondage of the Law (Galatians 4:1-26; Romans 6:14). Sabbath keeping is not required of the Christian—be it Saturday or Sunday. The first day of the week, Sunday, the Lord's Day (Revelation 1:10) celebrates the New Creation, with Christ as our resurrected Head. We are not obligated to follow the Mosaic Sabbath—resting, but are now free to follow the risen Christ—serving. The Apostle Paul said that each individual Christian should decide whether to observe a Sabbath rest, “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind” (Romans 14:5). We are to worship God every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday.

Quite clear there is much passion for law keepers (sabbath keepers).

In your zeal to make sure all laws are obeyed remember this sobering statement.

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace. Gal. 5:4

This is the danger we fall into when we become overzealous unbalanced and ridgid.

If anyone wishes to keep the sabbath day out of love for God thats awesome!

But if in your heart you belive it is a necessity that you must keep it and fear you will be punished or lose you Salvation if you do not then you are operating outside of grace. If you are telling others the same you are spreading lies.

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written Cursed is everyone that continues not in all things which are written in the law to do them.

The greatest danger is not too much grace, but too much emphasis on law leading to legalism and bondage.

Galattians 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

If I Scriptural disprove this will you continue in it?

Isayah 56:1-7, "This is what Yahweh says: Keep the judgments, and do justly; for My salvation is near, soon, to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them; and keeps his hand from doing any evil. Do not let the son of the Gentile, who has joined himself to Yahweh, speak, saying; Yahweh has utterly separated me from His people. Nor let the eunuch say; Behold, I am a dry tree. For this is what Yahweh says: To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose those things which eplease Me, and hold fast to My covenant: I will give to them, in My House, even within My walls, a place and a Name equal to that of sons and of daughters; I will give them the Name of The Everlasting: YAHWEH; which will not be cut off. Also the sons of the Gentile who join themselves to Yahweh, to serve Him, and to love the Name of Yahweh, to be His servants--everyone who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them and who holds fast to My covenant--I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My House of prayer..."

Numbers 15:15-16, "One ordinance shall be for you of the congregation, and for the stranger who sojourns with you, as an ordinance forever throughout your generations. As you are, so shall the stranger be in front of Yahweh. One Law and one manner shall be for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you."

Exodus 12:48-49, "And when a stranger lives among you and wants to sacrifice the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near, and sacrifice it; and he shall be as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it. One Law shall be for the nativeborn and for the stranger who dwells among you."

Where is your verse supporting that 7th day Sabbath is only for a certain race of people?

Romans 9:6-8, "However, it is not as though Yahweh's plan had failed. For it is not everyone who is a descendant of Israyl who belongs to Israyl. Nor, just because they are his descendants, are they all Abraham's children; but: In Isaac will your seed be called. That is, it is not those who are the children of the flesh who are Yahweh's children; but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's seed."

Psalm 105:6-9, "O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Yaaqob, His chosen ones! He is Yahweh our Father! His judgments are in all the earth. He has remembered His covenant forever, the Law He commanded for a thousand generations; Which He made; ratified, established, with Abraham, and vowed by His oath to Isaac. He confirmed it; let it stand, to Yaaqob for a Law, and to Israyl for an everlasting covenant."

Galations 3:28,29, "Is there not the Yahdai as well as the Greek; Gentile? Is there not the slave as well as the freeman? Is there not the male and the female? For all of you must be in unity in Yahshua Messiah. And if you are in Messiah, then you are a seed of Abraham, heirs according to the promise."

Psalam 89:26-37, "He will call out to Me; You are my Father, O Yahweh! You are the Rock of my salvation! And I will make Him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. My mercy I will keep for Him forever and My covenant will stand fast with Him. And I will establish his Seed forever, and his throne will be as the days of heaven. Should his children forsake My Law, and refuse to walk in My judgments; Should they profane My statutes, and fail to keep My commandments; Then I will punish their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with lashes from the whip. Nevertheless, My lovingkindness I will not utterly withdraw from him, nor will I ever betray My faithfulness. My covenant I will not break, nor will I change what has gone out of My lips. Once for all, I have vowed by My holiness--I cannot lie, and I say to David: His Seed will endure forever, and his throne will endure before Me like the sun. His throne will be established forever like the moon: the faithful witness in the sky."

I am so delighted for you. I wish all Christians/Believers had a soft enough heart to say, "I don't know if this is true, but the word says it, so I will try it. If it's true, please bless me in it. If not, please show me." Many people walk in "faith" but do nothing different in their lives. Many believe they know everything there is to know, and reject any teaching that does not fit what the pulpit is telling them. I pray that your Sabbaths become more and more restful, and that you are blessed in them every week.

Brother John, thank you for this post. It is obvious when reading how Paul regarded the Sabbath and the feast days, that he at least observed them. Some might say that it is because he's a Jew, but we know there are no more Jews and Greeks but all are the same in Christ. I think he had the Spirit observing the feasts in him, as I have, because it says he hastened to be at Jerusalem for Pentecost, and then says he tells the elders at Ephesus in Acts 20:22 "And now behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there."
Your post shows definitively that anyone trying to say Paul's preaching on the first day should be taken to mean that the "first day" is given for the church to gather, is taken out of context. I also did a slow read of when Paul tells the people to gather their money (for the offering to Jerusalem) on the first day of the week, and I'm convinced that in context, Paul would 1.) not have us counting money on the Sabbath, and 2.) not have a gathering of money while he was present. When I read your posting of the meaning of the words in the Greek, my first thought was, "Doesn't John know that the week was referred to sometimes as a Sabbath of days? This could mean both things" but then I read it, and it is TOTALLY obvious from the context, that you are correct. Which is interesting, because I had always read that the "morrow after the Sabbath" was referring to the 2nd day of Passover, but in cross reference to Deuteronomy, it is very clear.

I would add that their custom was that, while still immature, they would cut the "first fruits" of the barley right before Passover, that way it could be offered with the first fruits of the grain harvest which begins with the end of Passover. I always thought that symbolism was beautiful, because while we were still immature (or not born yet even) we were offered with Christ at his crucifixion. I could be totally off in my own world on this one, though, and my understanding doesn't agree with the below quoted statement, so please tell me what you mean, when you say it depended on the harvest?

It was Jewish custom to "fix" certain things in the calendar by noting if the harvest had barely been ready for the feast that year, and the winter came late, that they would insert an extra month at the end of the year (from a year beginning with month #1 point of view), and if the Sabbath wouldn't fall on the right day for the feasts, they would fix that by adding an extra day at the 8th month, and if need be the end of the 9th month as well. Although now it's on a 19 year rotation of leap years, so they needn't actually WATCH as they're supposed to....silly Jews, always trying to make it so they can't screw up, and therefor removing the obligation to try.

Any insight would be appreciated. =)

How can one be in the Spirit when they fight tooth and nail everything the Spirit says?

The Spirit puts the Law of Yahweh in our hearts, how can the Law of Yahweh be in ones heart if they argue against following it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER?

OK, one more time,

trying to be justified by anything but Christ, separates you from hi grace....
NOBODY IS SAYING THE SABBATH IS FOR JUSTIFICATION OR SALVATION, NOT ONCE HAS THAT BEEN SAID.
So then, you would have us all throw out something that our Father told us to do, just because it doesn't save you. If than this is your argument, than you are spreading lies. Why are you so passionate about us not calling the Sabbath a delight? Do you not read your bible, or fellowship with other believers, or give to the poor, or pray? You are not justified by any of these, so then by your logic, you should stop doing them. Right?

In this whole debate, not ONE single solitary person has given any scripture that is not CLEARLY talking about refuting a works based salvation, when we have already said that of course it is not the keeping of the Sabbath that saves, but the blood of our Lord that saves.....so you mean to tell me we are told in multiple places in scripture to do something, and though we're told it wont save us, and there's no where that states we should stop....in fact all the more should we continue in good works who have been redeemed by grace through faith in the one Messiah...but you think we should not tell others they aught to do as God says? I had told someone else this was derision, and took it back because he made me feel like a jerk, but that's just what this behavior is, it's derision (which is extreme mockery). What thing our Father in Heaven HATES.

SO you think we will one day have trouble for this doctrine? I tell you not us, that would encourage you to live by EVERY word that proceed from the mouth of the Father, no it is you who might deceive someone- to pick and choose from God's words, that they might think they have salvation and return unto sin. It's this dangerous deception in the church, that the Pope brought in, and nobody has swept yet from the house of the Lord.

Matthew 12
[SUP]43 [/SUP]When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
[SUP]44 [/SUP]Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
[SUP]45 [/SUP]Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
[SUP]46 [/SUP]While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
[SUP]47 [/SUP]Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
[SUP]48 [/SUP]But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
[SUP]49 [/SUP]And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
[SUP]50 [/SUP]For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

They fight tooth and nail at the word of the Lord and twist it's passages so well that they betray the contents of their temple.

Only by the adversary (whether they think they are saved or not or whether they know what they're talking about or not, is irrelevant) can one instruct another to go astray.

They say one word, and we give them 20 verses to their one, and they probably laugh at having wasted all our time.
If not for the people who may read this, and seeing the faith not being contended for, go their own way as well, I wouldn't be wasting my time.

Hizikyah nailed it, when he said "If I disprove this scripturally will you continue to walk in it?

Of course they will. Thank you for earnestly contending for the faith anyway, though! Don't lose heart!
