I believe the earth is much younger than the atheists beleive but also maybe a bit older than some creationsits tout the number as. We do not know the age of the Earth for many reasons. A big one is our human system of dating time. If you want to play by the Bible alone, then we do not know still for how long Adam and Eve were immortals. It is possible both biblically and secularly that the Earth could be quite old, but it is likewise possible secularly and biblically that the Earth could be quite young, especially if there was a worldwide catastrophe that scrambled everything materially upon the Earth.

The way I look at it is that the way man measures the age of the earth is based on man's creation of measurement. Does that make sense? Scientists essentially said, "This is how we determine how old something is" and from that, we do so. How accurate is it? Who knows. I do know, however that the earth did not happen by accident, that we didn't start as single cell organisms and evolve from apes, and that God created all animals and whatnot and then created man.
The Bible says somewhere that to the Lord a day as like a thousand years here on earth. So, if that is the case, then from the first speaking of God (day one) to the creation of Adam and Eve (day six) it was 5,000 to 6,000 years before man was created. But that's subjective.
It's been 2000 years since Christ walked the earth in human form and, due to the timeline of the Bible, Adam and Eve were 4000 years (approximately) before the birth of Christ, so from Adam to today, the earth is around 6014 years old. If the days of creation weren't 24 hour days, but were a thousand year days, then the earth would be around 12014 years old. However, since light and dark was created early on and measured as a day, I would assume that it was literal 24 hour days, meaning the first number is correct. The earth, therefore, around 6,000 years old, give or take 20 years.
I agree with others. What does the Bible say? That is the authority. Everything else is man's attempt to understand the supernatural with natural understanding...and failing.

I don't think man can find the answer without a direct answer from the Creator of it.
Genesis 1:1-2 says:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.
According to this opening statement from the Bible, the universe, and our planet, was in existence prior to the creative days.
With science ever changing conjectures and no direct, absolute answer in the Bible, we cannot retrieve the answer to this on our own.

Dinosaurs are actually recorded in Job, the oldest written book of the Bible and other books in the Bible too. They are called Leviathons and there are fire breathing sea dragons recorded in Job as well "with tails like Lebanon trees" (like huge Sequoia trees many feet wide, just the tails alone). AND scientists have found fossils of these fire breathing dragon/dinosaurs. TRUE STORY.

So when GOD made all of creation in SIX DAYS and rested on the SEVENTH that could be GOD saying he made it all in six thousand years (our "time" frame) for GOD truly HAS NO TIME FRAME.
GOD is outside of time and Einstein proved that "time" is relative. If you could move at the speed of light TIME WOULD STOP. If you could move faster than light you could GO BACK IN TIME. We are Spirit and Spirit CAN do all of this.
When we get to heaven we will understand all of this and how ETERNITY EXISTS WITH PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE ALL AT ONCE. In fact, we believers are RIGHT NOW SEATED WITH CHRIST AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER IN ETERNITY. That's the miracle of eternity and we probably sit there with the LORD encouraging ourselves here on earth all at once!

I learnt science from cartoon network and from reading backs of cereal boxes.
So how long can plants really live without sun? trying to stretch a "day" to mean billion years, or whatever is just trying to smooth over the evolution issue and keep the evolution theory compatible with Bible.
An interesting possibility that people look over is the lenght of time Adam and Eve were in Eden for. If the creation did not age, decay and die, a process which started after the fall and eviction from Eden, then is it possible they were in Eden for a billion years?

My background in Science? I don't have an official one. I learned some evolutionary theory in primary school and high school (both Christian but it was still law or they didn't find anything wrong with theistic evolution). I found the theory intellectually silly and rather dull. Ever since my very early childhood, I was taught the authority and infallibility of God's Word and enjoyed biblical creation - numerous books, Creation magazines and now internet resources, including those supplied by Creation Ministries International, and Answers In Genesis.
