Reading her statement I didn't really find it offensive or backhanded. I hope I met someone{since we are using car analogies} who has less miles then most.The line ''first and only one to taste the lips of his new bride'' makes me think someone is a fan of Danielle Steel type novels. :D

Being a rather typical defensive person myself it seems that this was more of an error in reception then in transmission.

I agree. The idea should be to raise your kids up so they have the FREE WILL to make their own choices. No need to worry if Mom and Dad are making all those choices for them. Does it glorify God to when a child has lost their free will or haven't the option to make their own good/bad decisions? I do not know how old this child is, but if the kid has never been allowed to make her own decision, she'll need someone else to continue to make them for her unless this cycle stops. Let the GIRL draw on her OWN relationship with the Lord and stop piggybacking off mom and dad's relationship/private or public .. with the Lord.

DarlinNadia: Very good if a Christian upbringing is instrumental in her making the right choices. But it does have to be by personal conviction and Divine strengthening, otherwise it would lack power.

sometimes i wonder whether people realize that an article calling jessa "the hot one" among her family, or even statements such as yours aren't exactly flattering, but can be quite demeaning in their own way.

being known as the "hot one" in a group is (further) focus on the fact that your value, or what is distinctive about you has little do with you, but rather the genetic lottery.

it's personally diminishing, especially when it's used as a method of comparison.

or rather, a backhanded compliment.

No child should, ever, make sexual decisions unless its a no.

They should never be placed in a situation to make that decision.

You can train your kids to make good decisions without putting them in a place to make decisions above their maturity levels. ''I trust my 15 yr old to be alone on a date'' has led to more problems than a parent who would chaperone or deny dating until one is more mature...guarentee it.

It's one thing to chaperone a teenager, it's another to chaperone an adult.

I don't see that as back handing anyone. To know that one wasn't driven by hormones to act ungodly is honorable and should be respected. The fact that I'm in my 30s, never married and a mother I highly respect that young women still have the strength to say no.

I don't see how Jessas free will has been taken. She is an adult, which means she has the freedom to move out and be of the world if she chose to. They couldn't stop her. Looks to me she is choosing to live this way.
Whats appalling Is how many "godly" people criticize this family and a young woman's choice to remain a virgin.
