Made a friendly correction because the Civil War started I believe in 1861. Therefore, the earliest admission for both sides has to be around 1861 and not 1845 for Texas. So I wasn't necessarily off topic.:)

The OP says Union, for the US and Confederation for Canada.

Actually it was 1788
Okay, I see where you are going with this. 1788 is the year New York declared itself as a state. Statehood and one's initiation in the Union/Confederate for the Civil War are two different stories.:)

Apologies; up here we use the word 'Confederation' to refer to the events of 1867, and subsequently, when provinces joined Canada.
