For a few months I’ve been watching a lot of young adults Christians that all the time they are talking about obeying God but they are getting tattoos in all their bodies. It just dont make sense to me, so if someone understand please explain to me
I have friends with tattoos, but I personally feel they are wrong. I don't condemn anyone for having them, but the history of tattoos is rather frightening. In pretty much all cases of historical tattooing it involved the occult and paganism through out all cultures.

Temple prostitutes and slaves were identified with tattoos. Gangs and triads are identified with tattoos as well. Tattoos were always linked to something bad and are generally linked to something bad today.

I don't know, tattooing has always been associated with worldly things and I have to wonder why we would want to look like the world, especially when it's past is so sordid.

I know people say they use them for conversation starters, but I suppose going to a bar and downing quite a few shots could accomplish the same thing with the guy next to me (which I don't believe is right, nor is it a valid excuse to talk with someone).

But people do what they want, this is just my opinion.

a few months before i got saved, i one day just decided "im going to get "Jesus Saves" tattooed right above my inner elbows and a cross on my thumb....i have NO IDEA why i wanted these tattoos. i didnt know God. i was living in sin. etc. it was so random, but i wanted them. i had absolutely no idea i was going to get saved a few months later (one night, alone, in front of my house)....i wonder if God may, have possibly* wanted me to get the tattoos because i am very known by many people who knew the sinful life i lived (where i live). with mainly drug addiction, and homosexuality...i mean, that random desire i had to get the tattoos in first place to give glory to a God i did not know, had to come from somewhere right?

I've got a tattoo that says "I Believe Tattoo's Are Unbiblical"

Apparently I wasn't thinking very logically when I got it!!!

This subject has been debated for quite awhile. I once asked a Pastor of mine about getting a tattoo (I do not have one but was always interested in getting one) and he responded to me. He indicated to me that the body was a temple of the holy spirit. Using tattoos would be similar to writing graffiti on the wall of the church. He also found this, ""Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," (1 Cor. 6:19-20)." I would be careful as to what to attach to your body.

I recently listened to a sermon on 1 cor 8 and the pastor mentioned some controversial topics like alcohol, gambling and tattoos. It's a fact that for some Christians today activities like drinking alcohol or getting a tattoo are sinful, so for their sake one shouldn't take part in them because this could lead to their stumbling. If a new convert who used to like tattoos in the past sees someone in church getting a tattoo, his conscience might be compromised.

From what I know there is not something very specific in bible against tatoos, but the question is why you want to mark your body, also even though bible is not very clear about certain things it gives us the clues and we get to know God through it so we can get to a conclution with the help of the holy spirit, another very important thing is that if your tatoo causes a bad impression for non believers or even inside of the church like the 'spiritual children' then you shouldn't do it for love to those who are weak in faith and for people that don't follow Jesus.

Bad tattoos are bad.

Some tattoos are obtained because they are faith based designs; Christian fish symbol <><, Bible verse/reference, etc. They are proven to be effective conversation-starters.

Blessings.

... if there is thought and meaning behind the tattoos then there is no problem with them, I am personally a fan and 4 different tattoos ranging in sizes.
Ms. gorgie: If the person does it, then it's good to have it done well. (If it can communicate something faith based that can be used in testimony, then so much the better.) Some people wait years in planning to do it, and it's good not to be in a hurry. Others know their minds completely and seem to get them shortly after they are legally old enough to have it done.

Blessings.

I personally love tattoos. I design so I surrounded by ppl w ink. All.of them have told me there's a story behind their tats. I believe that is nice bc is meaningful I personally don't have any on me bc I don't dare to heheh but I do believe God don't judge your outer appearance judges ur heart. The bible.is clear on that and to protect our bodies I believe he didn't mention it for the spiritual purpose but for medical purposes as well He thinks about everything. In the end is a matter of choice just are sure to do the right thing. Who knows if by getting a tat the tattoo artist gets saved heheh or the ppl that is in the shop.

I read the testimonies here all I can say is that God have a sense of humor and in the end is all He just loves us. XD the girl w the Jesus Saves tats I personally love it bc is a bold statement and i bet (figure of speaking) she use that to spread God's word and her testimony. Very functional!! :D heheh

Do you know people with faith based tattoos?

You don't have any yourself, right?

WhiteWolf provided the verses. Cutting oneself and getting tattoos in honour of the dead was to acquire their life essence (ancestral power). It was an occultic practise that some practise to this day. Modern tattoos are very different.
I suppose people these days don't try to "aquire their life essence," but many people do indeed get tattoos to honor loved ones who have passed. I see this all the time.

As long as U don´t get one tattoo, you got NO problem as a lawbreaker... It is easy to bypass a law but, if I were a cow or bull sealed... How many SEAL do I have to bear above my body to prove ownership?

Be sealed BY GOD, not by men or fashion culture. :)

With Lev 19:28 in mind I don't understand it too. But Christians do get tats and even make threads about it here. Which makes me wonder: who exactly do those Christians want to convince with their "faith based tattoos?" Other people? God maybe?

What makes you a Christian is the love for God and your fellow human being,
the rest is just vanity.

The verse next to Lev. 19.28 also says about not trimming the corners of one's beard. Do preachers shave? If someone is motivated to get a faith based tattoo design which is effective in witness, how can anyone who shaves be critical? In any case, is the New Testament believer under the law in the same way as Jews were?

You're so original...

True, and maybe we shouldn't take Lev 18:22 and Lev 20:13 seriously anymore
so we can SHAVE. lol
