What about the adjacent verse about beards? do you wear one as a legal obligation?

And, with a bushy beard, do you buy only uncircumcised fruit at the supermarket? it's mentioned in the same chapter.
In the OT people without beards or people who shaved people's beards did not get told or sent to hell specifically for what they did. There are times in King David's time where his servants got their beards shaven.

Without a beard in the OT is just considered an embarassment, thats all. There is no Tattoos that are ret-conned in the OT or NT.

So to sum it up, shaving of the beard is just an embarassment. Tattoos are against God's word.

What's the interpretational difference between "just an embarrassment" versus "against"? Both seem to be mentioned in some way in Leviticus 19.

My point it: are New Testament Christians still like Old Testament Jews in the land under the law?

Interestingly, Isaiah 49.16 says "I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands"; the Amplified Bible says: "tattooed thee"; but it cannot be in conflict with Leviticus 19.

Exactly... so why are you against my point? You are agreeing with me now lol and saying that tatoos are bad.

Also Jesus came not to destroy the law, but tof fulfill.

My point was, I don't understand your terminology in using the phrase: 'just an embarrassment'.

The context of cutting, etc. in Chapter 19 seems to be necromancy, 'for the dead'.

In any case, I don't think New Testament believers are under the law any more.

Here read this this is why I call it just an embarassment for it to be bad. Also we are under the same law, or else we wouldn't obey the 10 commandments either. And it's not necromancy, it means in rememberance of the dead.

Here is the verses I was talking about:

[h=3]2 Samuel 10:4-5[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

Leviticus 19 says 'for the dead' re. 'cutting', and this is what necromancy means.

Read:

New International Version
"'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

New Living Translation
"Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD.

English Standard Version
You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the LORD.

New American Standard Bible
'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.

King James Bible
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

So if, for example, a young Christian gets a Christian fish sign <>< done, this becomes the context of 'for the dead'?

I believe the implication here is that cuts made on the flesh would be 'for the dead'. In each listed translation, the mentioning of tattoos comes after any mentioning of 'for the dead'.

No that is a tattoo. Unless you mean it to resemble Jesus but then isnt that just idolatry? I may be wrong on that one but just saying to be careful.

If you say lost a loved one and marked your arm with a cut or something in remembrance then that is the context of "for the dead".

Basically to sum it up, don't mark your body with tattoos or with cuts on purpose. If you have them already, just repent and you should be fine.

That is key, my brother. There is no sin, no matter how vivid, that cannot be covered by the Blood of Christ or else it would fail to be true that He died for all of us.

Some Christians get faith based tattoos for witness purposes. Are you guys saying that under grace this motivation is wrong and its also governed by a passage immediately applicable to Jews under law?

First of all, they shouldn't need it for witness purposes. God already knows, it doesn't matter if people know or not [dont please people, please God]

Secondly, yes. Jesus said himself in Matthew 5:17

New International Version
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

New Living Translation
"Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.

English Standard Version
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

New American Standard Bible
"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

King James Bible
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Therefore he did not destroy any laws. One thing he did do is allow repentance a.k.a he didn't let the woman get stoned to death. Doesn't mean what she did wasn't wrong, but she was allow to repent.

The law was changed. According to the law, no priest came from Judah. Hebrews 7 says we now approach unto God by a better hope rather than by the law.

We are not under law, but under grace.

Thank you for posting many different translations of the important verses youve shared here. It really helps the reader to get clearer, more precise understanding of what the verses are saying from different translative perspectives.

The Lord Jesus indeed gloriously fulfilled the law.

But are you really under the law now?

It doesn't mean we don't follow the law.

Does that mean I don't have to obey the 10 commandments? Or I can commit Sodomy or Fornication? No. We still have to follow the law. We have Grace, but it doesn't mean we don't have to obey God's law. Jesus said it himself. It's that simple brother.

So what about the sabbath? (this was part of the 10 commandments).

And what about calling food and people unclean?

But I think we are moving away from tattoos.
