The way I look at it is that in the old and new testament it says those who purposely sin will not be forgiven. And by new studies that have come out on studying the brain, those that commit suicide are compared to those who suffer from other mental illnesses and are not in their right mind and thinking. So it will not be accounted on them.

With all due respect, new studies have shown that all sorts of sexual pervasiveness is genetically linked (they cannot help themselves. They were born that way).

Before I turned 20 (teen years), I attempted suicide about 8 times. And I would have to agree with you, it was mental....so mental. To the decree of 'attempting', I lost every single time to the demonic onslaught on my conscience's battlefield. The spiritual battle is indeed mental.

P.S. this is not to negate those who are truly mentally ill, but that, for the most part, it is a spiritual onslaught we sometime succumb to.

I am glad to know that you see from self experience that it is mental. However I don't believe in all studies, especially when it comes to sex. No one is born homosexual, or anything of the sort. No one is born, or is sitting in their crib thinking who they are sexually attracted to or even about sex. That is ridiculous to say they do.

The scriptures show that once you are saved if then sin you will feel convicted, so you must repent to be forgiven of that sin. If you do not then you are not truly sorry for what you did. To put it in human terms when any of us were a kid how many times did you go to your parents and say you were sorry just to get out of your punishment even though you were not really sorry. The same goes for sin, you must repent and I mean truly repent of your sin to be forgiven cause the difference between your human parents and your Heavenly Father is He knows where your heart truly is.

But what about the sin we forgot, or did not know we commited? How can one possibly know every sin they commit even on a daily basis. I guess those sins go unforgiven?

How can the dead repent?

Why does he have to repent. Are you telling me a person did not know it was sin when he did it? If he knew it was sin, how can they repent? even if they were alive?

So we can accidently sin? All sin is on purpose. We know what we are doing, If we say we do not. We deceive ourselves.

Really, so then you are saying that a person who has a mental illness and has no comprehension in thinking when they sin they know they are purposely breaking Gods laws. Ludacris !!! And also say you are raised up in a family, and church where they teach you things are acceptable when they really are not, wouldn't you be sinning in ignorance and not purposely. Not all read the bible for themselves, and believe what they are taught. This is the sin of ignorance.

That is why when you repent you ask in Jesus name to forgive you of anything else you have done in your life in sin that you may have not remembered. I do not believe you have to absolutely name every single sin in detail. That would be to hard for most of us if not all.

I assure you that God knows all things. Why do you think God needs to hear you confess every sin you have ever committed? One sin was surely enough to separate you from God. Perhaps confessing that you are a sinner by nature and only by grace can be changed would be sufficient.

If Jesus' blood only covers past sins, is it not any better than the blood of bulls and goats (Hebrews 10)?
With every new sin, new blood needed to be shed. Fresh sin, fresh blood, hence why they had to keep continually sacrificing animals again, and again as Hebrews 10 goes on to say. But for Jesus' blood, it was once and for all. If Jesus' blood is like that of the blood of bulls and goats, then that would mean he would have suffered since the beginning of the world(Hebrews 9:26).

[h=3]Hebrews 9:26[/h]New King James Version (NKJV)

26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

So we see then, that sin of the past, present, and future has been dealt with at the cross. thats the radical truth. This is not a license to sin, as I know that is running through your head right now. Grace is never a license to sin, for grace doesn't empower the flesh to sin. Grace is what stops sin from dominating us. "Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but grace."

Anyways, back to the question at hand. Is Jesus' blood greater than the blood of bulls and goats? If you need to keep confessing your sins, then it isn't for then you might as well still be under law sacrificing animals.

lol. So someone teaching us something is not a sin when it is is an excuse? Read romans 1. There is NO EXCUSE

Mental illness is another thing. But even mentally ill can understand right and wrong, unless they are so ill that they are unable. In which case that is another subject.

As far as excusing sin due to mental illness. That is wrong. I am sorry I do not believe that crap. just another way to excuse our sin and blame someone else but ourselves.

I have come close to commiting suicide a few times (when I was a prodigal son) I was not mentally ill. I was in so much pain (Because I left God and had nothing to fill my much needed spiritual hole, which only God can do) I wanted the pain to stop.

It would be impossible.

So again I must ask. ( I will use an example)

I know getting drunk is a sin.

I start to drink. And lose my mind and get drunk.

How can I repent of getting drunk. WHEN I KNEW IT WAS SIN?

Repent means to changes ones mind, or literally do a 180.. How can I change my mind? I would have to say that getting drunk is NOT a sin to truly repent.

Amen.

Jesus blood was shed over 2000 years before I asked for his forgiveness.

How can his shed blood forgive only the sins from that point past. and not the rest of my sin? If is only forgive up to that point. Then I would have to be perfect from that day forward. For any sin I would commit after would have no means to be forgiven. Because Christ died only for the sin up to that point (which I might add some churches actually teach. Like the roman church and orthodoxy)

It would be impossible.

Because we think in human standards ( that is in the flesh ). We do not think spiritually like our Savior would have us do in these areas. If we say there is no need for repentance or that all sins can not be forgiven of the believer we make our Lord and Saviors word void and of no effect. There is also a big difference between one who purposely sins here and there, and repents for the conviction they feel for doing so. And another who takes and says pretty much screw you God I know its wrong, but I am going to keep doing it every day even though I know its wrong because I don't care what you say.

Example: My dad believes in God, and Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and has been baptized. He drinks a lot every day but believes in how he was taught from the scripture where it says to drink and be marry. Now I know he is taking that verse out of context , but do I believe he will go to hell ? No I do not cause he can have forgiveness for that sin through what Jesus did on the cross for us, and for the teaching of repentance.

Let me offer you the answer as well. Well, one way to portray it I suppose. We are either walking in the light or walking in the darkness. As Christians we are walking in the light, correct? Don't know? Okay, lets look to the words of Jesus.

John 8:12

King James Version (KJV)

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

So, let me ask you. If you sin, are you then out of the light and into the darkness? Or, taking Jesus' words, are you indeed in the light and when you sin, you sin in the light?

1 John 1:7

New King James Version (NKJV)

7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

You sin, and the sin is in the light, therefore, the blood of Jesus cleanses you from all sin.

So, remember the priests that Hebrews 10 speaks of had to keep sacrificing animals to cover peoples sin? Again and again? Well, there ended up being many priests because eventually one priest would die and the next come in. Not so with Christ.

Hebrews 7:18-25
18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:
“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
‘You are a priest forever.’”

22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.
23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Can I get a big "AMEN"!? How about a "Hallelujah"!?

And again you talk about to change ones mind to do a full 180. Well how do you change ones mind if they are set in their ways and believes by how they were taught is not wrong, and what you are saying is just your view point. Once again they would be in sin of ignorance because they believe what they were taught, and not your side of things. I would side on your point of view to some extent, but to say all people have the comprehension to tell right from wrong is wrong to say. Like I said there are mental or should say medical issues that interfere with that in some cases, and if you go and try to say that once you are saved you will never sin again will be false as well. The scriptures says that if you fall ( meaning you sin again ), you can come back and repent of that sin and be forgiven. This is a hard subject to wrap our heads around cause the debate will always be there cause of how we think in the flesh and not in the spirit. Some believe you have to be perfect and not sin ever again to be truly saved ( false teaching ), and some others believe you can just go and do what ever you want and still be forgiven without asking for it ( false teaching also )

If repentance is now void, then every one would go to heaven. We however know from scripture that is not true.

Why does he have to repent. Are you telling me a person did not know it was sin when he did it? If he knew it was sin, how can they repent? even if they were alive?

Repentance is for a sin performed, not for a knowledge of that sin. If he performed that sin, then he will need to do as the Lord has said to do in prayer to God, 'forgive me my sins as I forgive those of others'.

Why repent? Jesus said, 'repent or perish'. Just as with the Hebrews who had to repent of their waywardness before they received a pardon, so too, must we repent when we walk contrary to the Voice of the Lord.

It is obvious the second had never repented in the first place. So I doubt he would even be saved, It takes true repentance to save someone. One must admit all there sin separates them. If one can not do this. They certainly do not trust God when he says you are guilty. thus he certainly is not going to completely trust him.

Now he may believe in God (see James) but it takes more than belief to get saved, Many who believe in God has never been adopted by him.

Example: My dad believes in God, and Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and has been baptized. He drinks a lot every day but believes in how he was taught from the scripture where it says to drink and be marry. Now I know he is taking that verse out of context , but do I believe he will go to hell ? So he believes in God. And is saved, But has to repent of a sin..

lol. Sorry I am not buying this. God chastens those who are his, WHo can resist his chastening? I know I could not. it is severe.) If there is no conviction of sin, there most likely is no chastening.

I can not judge ones salvation, Only God can. But I would wonder if he really believes this, and just drinks with the conviction and has become hardened to it. or if there is any conviction at all.

Repentance is for a sin performed, not for a knowledge of that sin.

lol. Repent means to change ones mind.

Take that literal interpretation and re-think what you just claimed. Because it does not fit the defenition. No one who spoke in the greek in the time of Christ would have thought this. Because you can not get this from the word.

Again I ask you.

If I knew and AGREED with God that something was a sin. (even if I committed it) The only way I could repent, (change my mind) is to change and say it is not a sin.

God said we fall short of the Glory. The law states we must obey ALL words containing in it Or we must suffer death.

Repentance for salvation is to agree with this.

Romans state we ALL know sin is sin, But have hidden it in our heart. yet still have no excuse. because we know what we are doing has made us worthy of death.

to repent is to change our mind, and stop hiding in our heart what we know to be true.

If you are repenting, you must repent which includes a work of returning the stolen item. Works without repentance is in vain.
James 2:20 (KJV)
[SUP]20 [/SUP]But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Faith, apart from works, is faith only. Such a faith is "barren," (argen, unproductive), because it is dead. That which is dead is incapable of producing; and is thus barren. Earlier, and in much detail, James shows that faith, without works, is dead; here, he indicates that it is without the outward evidence of life (productivity) which demonstrates that life exists. (James 2:17, 20.)
The kind of faith described here—faith apart from works,—is the kind which the denominational world urges is that which saves.

MsLimpet:

Ephesians 2.8-10 is a good guideline here.

Blessings.
