I got into a conversation with one of my Facebook friends over a Christian topic that I disagreed with. A couple of other Christians who agreed with me were involved. The result - agreeing to disagree. A good discussion. No sarcasm. No insults. (Which we're all prone to.) It was quite refreshing.

I don't have a problem with the conservative view. It's the hyper version of it, the enforcing everyone to think and act the same way, that I take issue with. And this Facebook friend is not like that, even though he is conservative. Really a breath of fresh air.

I agree about civility. Do you have a problem, though, with holding fast to clear doctrinal statements such as: "I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me?" (John 14.6). (It's just that sometimes people are accused of being harsh and unreasonable simply because they take God at His word.)

Just reading about that is refreshing. I get so tired of most things seeming to end in people having an argument instead just discussing the topic and agreeing to disagree if needed. There is also the problem of people taking things out of context when communicating using only written words.

Thank you for sharing something so positive:)

It's frustrating, and not a very good witness for Christ. Admittedly, I get sarcastic too sometimes, but I'm working on it. :)

Yup, been there.

No problem! God bless! :)

The Bibles says we'll known by our love for each other but sometimes in the forums I wonder what an unbeleiver would think. We should learn to disagree with courtesy because if Jesus is your LORD it doesn't matter what day you went to church, or if you tried to be Torah compliant, or thought you could lose your salvation or thought you could only read the KJV or thought you should speak in tongues or thought you shouldn't-we are all going to be together to praise Jesus and celebrate.

I agree about common courtesy. In fact, love among Christians is a major testimony to the world.

It's a secularist myth, however, to avoid matters of clear, Biblical revelation, when it's claimed that subjects they do not like to talk about are supposedly rude or uncivil.

It is said they are rude and uncivil because THEY ARE being rude and uncivil. I've been guilty of that many times myself. But the person who is dogmatic about what they believe don't think of themselves as rude or uncivil, because they believe it's justified because they are "defending" God's "word." (What the word is.)

From your own words do I see part of the real motivation for this thread? It's not really only about means of expression (although some of it can be regrettable.) Is it also about the substance of Biblical teaching? 'Thou shalt not commit adultery', 'Repent and be converted...' etc.
