You know what's weird.. I read this thread yesterday and I knew I should feel bad for this guy but for some strange reason I felt like something was off about the whole thing. That's why I didn't post anything. Maybe I'm psychic?

I wanna be mad about this but I'm not...
Maybe it's because I feel sorry for him.
I mean how bad does your life have to be to pretend something like is happened to you? Its sad and messed up.

Dagnammit!!! I fell for it, again! This is just another case of those Canadian/Alaskan/can't remember "teenage girls" who were so on fire for Christ and wise for their ages. Why do I trust anyone?

What if it's all just a figment of our imagination?

What if I told you...

Usually I don't fall for those things either. He put on a pretty convincing show.

i refuse to beat myself up about buying into those things.

there was a day, probably 10 years ago when i would've wanted some evidence before i would invest emotionally, even a bit. that was no way to live, though. thanks to God, He's broken me over and over (in spite of myself) and that has made me very tenderhearted. it's my hope that no one is blaming themselves for falling for the story. i'm not a gullible idiot, and i bought into it hook, line and sinker as well.

and i don't regret praying for him. even though we weren't praying for an actual crisis, God knew that, and we all came with our hearts in the right place.

jitterbug if you read this, i'm not angry at you. i forgive you and pray that you are able to gain what you need from this situation. sometimes God uses "correction" like this to get our attention or help us change. i've had to go through some pretty tough things while God was getting my attention in spite of my own rebellion.

jitterbug, from the little i spent getting to know you here and in chat, you have great qualities and a good personality. that was more than plenty for you to be acceptable to us. we genuinely liked you for you, alone. please hear that, and move forward with that. God bless you.

Well, I didn't fall for it because there was another peep in chatroom last night going on mic exposing one personal catastrophe after another.

What I thought was off about the OP is that people are usually in great shock when they lose their belongings to a fire. An
entire house can be burned to the ground in about 20 minutes, but the shock takes months to overcome.

Besides, the police would have been interviewing him, eating up his time well into this week. Then, there would have been insurance claims to process eating more of his time... Something just didn't match up to Columbo's standards. :D

The OP was way too "chilled" and collected to even come online to post a narrative. Combining the two "catastrophe" episodes from last night, I was like, "Okay, I'll catch some zzzzz and process this tomorrow."

Thanks to the administration for letting us know, and for telling us why certain situations have been handled the way they have. I'm thankful we don't have to sit around guessing.

I'm a predictable bleeding heart and had heard the OP in chat the "night" it supposedly happened, so I had a lot of sympathy. It just makes me sad because he seemed like a good person and was becoming one of my favorite people to listen to on the mic in the Singles room.

For anyone out there wanting to join in our Singles conversations...

I guess we now have another spot open!!!

We have several... it's dead in there tonight...

Dead I tell you. The tumbleweed is blowing and I think I hear both Blondie and Josey Wales approaching.

For anyone beating themselves up over "getting duped", and maybe several times... I can totally relate and thought this might help.

People often tell me I'm too trusting and naive. I had a co-worker who grew up in the Bronx, and would say things like, "Kim, you just live in your own little Care Bear world," and she didn't mean it in a nice way. I certainly don't want to be ignorant, but every time I try to "keep my guard up" or "question everything", it all just falls to pieces. For better or worse, that's not who God made me to be. I'm colder than I used to be ;) but I still fall prey to this more often than I'd like.

Several years ago, I knew someone who had something happen in their life but told everyone (including me) Story X when actually, Situation Y had occurred. I believed Story X because that's all they told me, and I thought we were close enough that if something else had happened, they would tell me. I was wrong.

When it eventually DID come to light, I was very distraught and told God, "Why am I ALWAYS the last to know? Or should I have just known better?"

I believe God explained to me that sometimes HE PURPOSELY KEEPS US IN THE DARK because I was taught (I don't have the passage, if anyone else does or wants to correct me, please feel free) that God holds us accountable for WHAT WE KNOW. In other words, if I would have known the TRUTH (Situation Y vs. false Story X), God may have had to hold ME responsible as the person to confront the person and it would have been a very ugly situation. But because I DID NOT KNOW, God could not hold me responsible for something I was not aware of. At the time, I was crushed. After the fact, I was grateful.

Don't always feel so badly if you fall for someone's story. It means you have an extraordinarily compassionate heart and God will sure see and honor that. And, He may be sparing you from the burden of having to confront and clean up a circumstance you'd look back on and WISH you would have never known about.
