one good thing may have resulted from Russia's recent forced annexation of Crimea: many dolphins may now be able to keep their jobs.

the Ukraine was planning to shut down their combat dolphin program this month,

but Russia's intent is to re-adopt and continue the program. rather "convenient timing" isn't it?

we know that God oversees all that countries do:
For kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. (Psalm 22:28)
so
let's rejoice that He cares for us all, down to the smallest of his creation!
he who gives food to all flesh,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
(Psalm 136:25)
He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry. (Psalm 147:9)

Hope they at least get "minimum wage"!

The real good news is that if things keep escalating then we are definitely that much closer to seeing our Lord.

It's not forced when the majority votes for it. That's democracy. I can understand though how products of a failing liberal controlled public indoctrination system are unable to distinguish between people clearly wanting annexation such as Texans did from Mexico to the United States and Crimeans clearly did from the Ukraine to the Russian Federation and a forced annexation such as when the Third Reich annexed Poland given how badly they were failed by a system that was supposed to actually educate them to a high degree.

The problem is that Crimea is part of Ukraine, and even though the majority in Crimea voted to be annexed not all in Crimea are for this. And if you take Ukraine as a whole then the majority did not vote for the annexation. It was just that group in Crimea, the rest of Ukraine said no. So if you want to go with democracy and the majority vote winning. Then the answer for annexation of Crimea would be no. The main problem is in this though is that Putain is not to be trusted, and already in just one month has done exactly the opposite of what he has said he would do three times. It is well known that he wants to bring the communist Russia back which includes all of Ukraine, not just Crimea.

i'm not going to pretend to understand Eastern European politics well enough to judge what's going on over there.
by "forced" i meant to defer to that it was against the Ukraine's wishes, and the UN didn't recognize their independence. if you want to pick apart my words, it ought to have been "re-annexation" or re-re-re... the point is Crimea's "changed hands" many times. i didn't mean to comment on the human politics.
but i care about the dolphins.

about whether they'd rather be free, well, i don't think so actually.
they are well treated i'm sure, and trained, and probably derive some sense of satisfaction. you can argue about dolphin indoctrination, sure, but the fact is that they actually do swim free. they could take off whenever they want, but they don't. they have real relationships with their handlers, and the switchover may be traumatic for them in some way.

I'd rather write about laughing than crying,
For laughter makes men human, and courageous.
François Rabelais

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast:
but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Proverbs 24:10

So because all of Mexico did not get to vote on whether or not Texas could annex with the U.S. but just Texans voted therefore we have to give Texas back to Mexico because it was wrong to annex it on behalf of the majority of Texans that wanted to annex Texas with the U.S.?

I don't think so.

Crimeans voted overwhelmingly both before the crisis and during the crisis to annex with Russia. They don't need to ask the entire Ukraine for approval just as Texas did not need to ask all of Mexico for approval.

It's called democracy. Get used to the idea.

The US itself signed the Atlantic Charter in 1941 stating that "no territorial changes [should be] made against the wishes of the people." The Crimea has every right to cesade and become a part of Russia now the majority of the population is in favour of it. So the Obama adminstration can only accept and applaud the decisions made by the free people of Crimea.

Don't forget the Monroe Doctrine. It's wrong for Russia to put missiles in Cuba and right for the U.S. to view foreign involvement in the Americas as "an act of aggression" according to the Monroe Doctrine but it's perfectly fine for the U.S. to put missiles on Russia's border pointing into Russia and involve itself heavily with nations on Russia's border.

Hmmm......

Don't get me wrong, I like the Monroe Doctrine. I just don't like the hypocrisy.

dude, what did you think of America's civil war? was Lincoln wrong to preserve the Union?

That analogy would apply to what's happening in Syria to an extent but not Crimeans wanting to annex with Russia. Texas is a much better example for Crimea.

Once again the difference is back then Mexico did not have the power or support to stop it. Now with the laws that have been put into place through the U.N., the whole country has to be in favor of the change not just one section. Ukraine's majority said no and appealed to the U.N. for the violation of their rights by Russia invading to force the annexation of Crimea. When the majority votes were against it, and the U.N. stands behind Ukraine. Plus they asked for our help.

Plus some may not like my out look on this, but if those in Crimea want to be part of Russia. Move there than !!!!

True, Antonio López de Santa Anna had "only" 1800 professional troops at his disposal at the Alamo, against 189 civilians. At the battle of San Jacinto 1360, against the 910 militia troops of Sam Houston. The Texans clearly were outnumbered, but at least they had a cause to fight for, unlike the Mexicans. The Texans fought for freedom, and that made them prevail in the end.
