I am personally Greek Orthodox and was wondering what other denominations believe about the Holy Spirit. The catholic view is that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the father and the son, while the orthodox believe the Holy Spirit proceeds only from the father as stated in genesis. I know it is a minor difference but orthodoxy being the first and only church for the first 1000 years if Christianity. Wouldn't their view have to be viewed as correct?

Well the orthodox church was not the first church. The first church was THE CHURCH in Jerusalem. Which looked nothing like orthodoxy and Catholicism.

as to your question.

The correct view would be the HS proceeds from the father through the son.

This is from my little understanding I got from literature I have read. I may be incorrect please forgive me for my ignorance

The two churches for the first 1000 years or so ,before their split, was one Church. So that in itself doesn't determine who was correct. The correct view is determined by what scripture says not which was the first 'church'.

don't ever apologize. We can never learn if we never ask questions.

ads a great mentor of mine once said. The only dunb question is the one that you do not ask.

I agree with you in this statement.

and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Acts 11:26

First CHRISTIAN church

the first christian church was the church in jerusalem. With Peter, James and John as the primary leaders.

they met in homes, not in temples

they met often, eating dinner together (breaking bread) praying together, learning doctrine so they could in turn teach others.

They did not have a sacramental system of rules and regulations. they just met and because a spiritual family.

There are many many aspects of the first church, which as I said, does not resemble orthodoxy in any way

When I say church I do not mean building but faith and beliefs. And the Catholics simply are not following what the church in Jerusalem followed.

neither are the orthodoxies,,

The way to heaven (gospel) is the same for both churches. They become seperate denomination only because they differ in other areas of faith.

You will find that the soteriology of the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church does vary from one another.

Yes, I agree. I am simply pointing out that ROMAN catholic believe a different thing about the Holy Spirit then the original church did, and that, the decision made to change this belief was around 1000 AD

in what way do they differ. what would make one more saved than the other, or save one, while the other is not saved. (which would be more biblical. Because scripture states there is only one way, Any difference in soteriology would make it a false gospel.

Do they both claim to agreed upon oral tradition as binding?
That would be interesting seeing they both came to a disagreement somewhere.

what difference does it make? WIll it determine who goes to heaven and who goes to hell?

No It won't determine that. I just do not understand why they would change it after 1000 years. Why not just stay true to the bible instead of adding man made ideas

What church has not added man made ideas to their doctrines? can you name a perfect church? And please do not say yours, because no church in the 1st century was perfect. The NT was written to help imperfect churches, And the 1st three chapters of revelations were a witness that churches in 7 cities were different, not perfect. and all had problems. Including adding man made ideas to the word of God.

I don't know, I guess what I am trying to get out is that, I don't think it is a good idea to blindly accept ideas intill you study the history behind them. I also think it is a bad thing to have differing opinions in Christianity because we are all brothers And sisters in Christ. So the I think the right thing to do would be for all churches to follow the same doctrine as the apostles of Christ followed which were not the same as what some churches use today.
