I do try to learn the law to do my best and follow it. Not because it makes me "holier than thou".
The purpose of the law is three-fold: The law teaches us what God says is sin, thus leading to repentance. It also teaches us what God has in store in Heaven and the New Earth. If those living in sin will not inherit the kingdom, how do we know what is sin and what isn't? Answer: the law. So we can and must deduce that the opposite of what God does not like must be what we must have in our lives. Be ye Holy for I am Holy. God would not have said that if it were impossible for us to do. But we do not achieve holiness by ourselves, God must teach us, via the law. And
God is the same yesterday today and forever, the things He said were not ok then are still not ok and will never be ok. Just because we are under the blood does not make us exempt.
How's this for context?
Matthew 5:17-20
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Heaven and Earth has not passed yet, and not ALL is yet fulfilled. I haven't seen Jesus on the judgment seat yet. Also, if anyone breaks even the least of the commandments and teach others to do the same shall be the LEAST in the kingdom of heaven. Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in NO case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore, according to His Word, I should not tell anyone that it is ok to get a tattoo and/or a piercing when God clearly says do not. GOD said. This is not shrimp's doctrine, This is God's doctrine. If you don't like it take it up with Him.
