i took this in 2013, but this years generations of these same bees have just started coming out in the last 2 days here.

my wife left the room the first time she saw that bank of photos but afterwards she came back and loved them - i know it's a little creepy..this is another one my wife took recently, a tulip; we have irises blooming now soon i'll post some of them too. lots more bugs are also out but maybe i'll spare you those

These are all pictures a friend of mine took in his garden, he has great skill with the camera and a really pretty garden too. The bird is one of New Zealand's native birds, called a Pukeko. Enjoy

you've never met a 'praying mantis' before farouk?
they are fun; they will hang around on your shirt if you catch one and put it there - sometimes wearing floral prints i've had them just fly up and land on me! sometimes the grow as big as 6-8" long; a pretty hefty size bug. they are territorial and if you find one adult it is very rare to see another anywhere nearby. as babies though, hundreds of them hatch together and are carried off by wind & tiny wings to different places. if you find one only about an inch long, there are probably scores more not too far away.

a praying mantis egg sac must have hatched today or yesterday on my back porch!
