The baptism into the body of Christ, 1 Cor 12: 13, Is the rebirth, NOT water baptism.
Please note, "By one SPIRIT, we are baptised into the body", NOT by WATER.
Eph 2:8,9 does not say faith alone saves.
We've seen in this thread so far that baptism saves. Other bible verses teach that grace, the blood of Christ, belief, repentance, confession, the engrafted word of God, hope ALL save. So faith alone by no means saves for it takes a combination of ALL these things to save.
I ws just pointing out, that as far as I have seen, no one here has said baptism alone saves.

In post #58 Posthuman was trying to make water of Jn 3:5 to mean "living water" of Jn 4:10, make water mean some kind of spirit.
THe bible is its own best commentary:

"In the kingdom" and "in the body" are equivalent terms iwth both referring to being sved. Since there is just ONE way to be saved, no alternatives, then both of these verses MUST express the same idea, which they do:
Spirit is equivalent to spirit
water is equvalent to baptized
in the kingdom is equivalent to inthe body.
Furthermore there is "one baptism" in effect, Eph 4:5. In 1 Cor 1:14,16 Paul WATER baptized some of the Corithians himself, Paul being a human disciple carrying out the human adminstered water baptism of Christ's great comission. So 1 Cor 12:13 is that one water baptism of Mt 28:19,10; Mk 16:15,16; Jn 3:5; Eph 4:5, 1 Cor 1:14,16.

i thought it was straightforward: you asked why people take "water" figuratively but don't take "spirit" figuratively, so i showed you scripture where Christ Himself speaks figuratively of "water" -- i didn't relate it to anything else.
And what in Jn 4:10 is Christ making water to figuratively mean? The physical birth? No. What then?
it sure doesn't say that any "work" saves!

"Alone" is an exclusionary word, so "faith alone" excludes anything and everything else from salvation including grace, the blood of Christ, repentance, confession, baptism, the engrafted word of God, hope.....
Yes, Rom 6:3-6 show that when one is water baptized that is symbolic of Christ's death burial and resurrection.
An issue is, does the bible say water baptism is just a symbol and nothing more? No, for the bible also teaches water baptism saves, 1 Pet 3:21, Mk 16;16; Acts 2:38. From Rom 6:4, can one NOT be water baptized therefore NOT walk in newness of life yet still be saved? No.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
(Ephesians 5:25-27)
Christ Himself is the Word, and the Living Water is the same, given to us as an earnest by the Holy Spirit.

If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

this isn't talking about simply getting your hair wet.
