Hi everybody. I'm new to this site but I joined in hopes that you could answer my question. Apostle Paul in his letters forbid women from teaching, or speaking in church. He also tells women to submit. I have trouble with these passages especially when paul says his word is the commandment of the lord (1 Corith 14:37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet or otherwise gifted by the Spirit, let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command.) Please help. I want to believe in Christianity but these view are so troublesome.

If that issue is what is stopping you, then you are on the wrong road to salvation. You should be asking 'if you are worthy enough to earn your entrance into eternal life?'. And when you see that nobody is you should then ask, 'who then can enter?'
'Women in the Church' is an issue that has far less consequences.

Jesus’ Compassion for Women
How did women feel in Jesus’ presence? Certainly he had many loyal female followers, including his own mother, Mary. (Luke 8:1-3; 23:55, 56; 24:9, 10) Women felt free to approach Jesus to such a degree that on one occasion a woman ‘known to be a sinner’ washed his feet with her tears and greased them with perfumed oil. (Luke 7:37, 38) Another woman, who had suffered with a flow of blood for years, pushed forward to touch his garment in order to be healed. Jesus praised her faith. (Matthew 9:20-22) Yes, women found Jesus approachable.
On another occasion, Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman at a well. She was so surprised that she said: “How is it that you, despite being a Jew, ask me for a drink, when I am a Samaritan woman?” You see, Jews had no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus went on to teach her a marvelous truth about the ‘water that bubbles up to impart everlasting life.’ He was at ease with women. He did not feel challenged.—John 4:7-15.
Where Jesus did not assign women to be leaders in the Christian Congregation it is obvious you can trust Jesus way of managing the Congregation.

The trouble with most "views" is the conflicts between scriptures. (actually there are none). When one seems to conflict with the other, one or both of our 'beliefs' about what they're saying is wrong.

My advice is this: between 2 verses that seem to conflict, pick the one that says what it means the plainest & prove it's validity first. An example:

Galatians 3:28 (KJV) [SUP]28 [/SUP]There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Seems pretty plain to understand, right? Now find 2 or 3 commentaries & see if they agree on what this scripture means. When the obvious meaning is found, don't waver it's meaning. It is true.

Now, if the plain scripture is obviously true, the other one can't be, although it may seem so. This one needs to be scrutinized more carefully. You may find conflicting meanings for it in your commentaries. If you do, follow my advice: don't believe anyone's personal interpretation, especially your own or your church's. Check multiple commentaries from different time periods, at least 7-10. Also check the translation of the verse in other bibles for accuracy. Whatever the majority of commentaries & bibles agree on, that's most likely its true interpretation.

NEVER believe a personal answer because someone argues it into the ground. Those are the LEAST LIKELY to be correct. Around here, they're usually 100% wrong, lol!

Problem I have with this is "commentaries" are written by men...........who are just as possible to be mistaken as I am.....

Now, I enjoy reading commentaries, but I will place my faith in the wisdom of the Holy Spirit.........the Holy Spirit will not fail us, man always will sooner or later............and why should I believe more the interpretations of some man I have never met over what (through study, and sincere prayer) the Holy Spirit has given to me?

anyway.........God bless.......

Ok, now I better understand what you are saying Brother Stephen............and yes, new believers NEED to be mentored in the Word of God............Aquila and Priscilla did this for a young man, and he turned out to be a great worker for the Kingdom.
