According to a news paper report, the police prosecuted a New Zealander man 32 times over a 5 year period. Why?, For not wearing his seatbelt. Though his violations were costing him money, he refused to buckle up. So he resorted to deception fashioning a strap that would hang over his shoulder and make it appear he was wearing a seatbelt. He got away with it for a while, but his deception came to an end when he was involved in an accident that thrust him into the steering wheel and took his life. In his attempt to deceive the law, the man was only fooling himself.

In (James 1: 22) the opening chapter, taught his readers how to avoid the land mine of self-deception. In order to avoid it he encouraged them to be hearers of God’s word.

James understood that when they heard the word it had the potential to transform their attitudes and actions. God, through the scriptures, would get to the root of things. He would treat them as they are and not as they pretend them to be.

James also encouraged this congregation to be doers of the word (James 1: 25). According to James hearing God’s Word was good, but it wasn’t enough. They had to do what it said. As the mirror of God’s Word revealed what was out of place in their lives, they were to align their lives with the truth. To hear God’s Word and not practice it led to self-deception. However, to be hearers and doers of it led to blessing.

Hearing and doing what the scriptures says reveals what lives are really like, not what we pretend them to be. (James 1: 26), and it helps us to avoid deceiving ourselves.

Let’s practice hearing and doing what the bible says and experience the joy and blessing that accompanies obedience…..

Then again some people strap in, buckle up, drive the posted speed, make the full stops at stop signs, drives with courtesy, etc., etc., but are flatly on the wrong road to where they 'should' be going, rather they are on the road to where they 'want' to go.

Have you noticed that being honest with yourself is very difficult. Often, we can see how others are deceiving themselves a lot better than we see it in ourselves. We know the bully is pretending he is a tough guy, we know the grossly painted face of the teen is hiding her insecurity, but they don't know it about themselves.

I found that there are sort of tapes of thought that keep playing in our heads, and it is sometimes startling to listen to the thoughts that come to us. One time I caught myself thinking to myself "you are too nice to think like that" about a thought I had just had.

Fooling ourselves is truly foolish, for when the Lord is part of us, the Lord knows all of us. When we are in listening prayer, it is a practice in honesty.

Acts 4:10) Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 .) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 .) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

After Christ saved us, He did not leave us without help, comfort, and instructions. We have all the words of many bible verses about how to live in abundance, words that the English language calls laws. We are loved and guided.

........... ??? ...........did He not SEND the Holy Spirit? ........... for EXACTLY this purpose?

Now, you do as you wish........and God bless......but, yeah, I'm going with the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit........

Didn't I say He sent help, comfort, and instructions? You can eliminate the instructions if that is what you choose to do. I am not going to eliminate the Holy Spirit, the comfort, OR the instructions as you seem to suggest I do. God sent instructions as He sent the Holy Spirit. I do not tell God "no" about anything God tells me.

YOU SAID:

now, it may just be me..............but I don't see where you said "Holy Spirit.........." IF you had said "the Comforter," then, ok..........but "comfort" and The Comforter are not the same........

I do see where you speak of The Law...............
