What age are 6th graders? 11? 12? Is the school distributing child sized condoms? Take a look at that phrase, child sized condoms, that expresses exactly how disturbing this decision by the school is.

Schools should not be allowed to distribute condoms at all IMHO. Let the teenagers who are determined go to the local health department and ask for them but don't pass them out with report cards.

Sensible comments, they sound to me.

I mean even as an adult, I was disturbed by the active promotion on safe sex on TAFE campus. Not the actions of making it safe but that such a measure was necessary. I remember two pretty young women going around with coloured condoms and handing them out to people. They asked me if I wanted some and I said, "NO, thanks. I don't have sex." "What if you choose to?" "I'm saving myself for marriage". They looked at me as if I were E.T. I found it difficult to talk to most girls at the time, let alone pretty ones promoting safe sex. But I stood my ground and they wandered off to find some other people. Making any kind of stand against a sexualised culture is better than no stand at all.

To be fair you can preach abstinence and waiting til marriage at them til you are blue in the face. And you should. But there are always going to be those who choose to turn a deaf a ear to you. So are we to punish these kids by allowing them to wantonly expose themselves to STDs and pregnancies? Providing condoms, while not a good solution in anyway at least provides an unsatisfactory answer for those intent on doing what they want. I mean if they are immature enough to squander the gift of sex God gave them, I certainly don't want them having to deal with children at such a young age with such great immaturity.
Do you really think a 12 year old is mature enough to really consider the consequences of sex? Do you really think they care about condoms, birth control and so on?
I have a 12 year old that can't remember to put on clean underwear half the time. Do you really think my son would remember to put on a condom?

^Not that my child has sex. HE doesn't. just using him as an example

what if we use God and us as an example:
If we choose to sin does God ever help us to do so?
(suddenly recalling we do not sin so that grace can abound)
Or does God leave us to our own devices after having told us the righteous and correct path...ONLY

I also keep forgetting that some on CC continue to belittle single mothers....as if that helps ANYTHING!

I don't know if you meant me, but I was expanding upon what you said.
I think it's good you teach your son the correct and righteous path...ONLY, so that he will not depart from it when he grows.
Just as God does with us.

Part of it is that solutions perfect for those not of this world are not received by an imperfect world, and those giving health advice and services are likely to want to prevent disease, and the possibility of babies being born with incurable diseases, etc.

Tintin: You write some really good posts, which are appreciated. But maybe I've missed something: do you really think that two piece swimsuits on infants on a beach are going to disturb and corrupt people?

I'm no expert here...but maybe I've missed something.

Blessings.

For me, it's the reality that a 3 year old in a bikini will inevitably become a 14 year old in a bikini. I know that different cultures have different ideas of modesty, and in many areas some bikinis aren't really considered immodest, but seeing young girls in tiny little string bikinis does make my heart hurt.

About condoms for 6th graders... that makes me sad and angry and helpless. 6th graders are having sex because they think it's what they are supposed to be doing. And society is encouraging that. Media is encouraging that. 6th graders should be climbing trees and playing ball and just beginning to shyly look at girls with a little bit of interest that will take years to amount to anything serious. No one will ever convince me that it's natural for an 11 year old to be emotionally or physically ready for sex. Most have not even reached puberty by that age.

Although studies have shown that puberty can be brought on early by introducing sexual content (or hormones, in food, even) to children, so perhaps puberty is beginning earlier than in previous generations. Which is even more sad to me.

It doesnt mean we should compromise one step for the enemy to further his agenda in favor of God's.
They sin, they lay in the bed they made.

Not you. Earlier in the thread.

Ah, thanks. Sorry to hear that, mate.
It's their ignorance. Not mine. Maybe one day they'll realize that not all women who have made mistakes in the past are a welfare statistic and they refrain from continuing on that path.

Oh I'm a strong believer in separation and sanctification.

What I mean also is the challenge faced by Christian workers in mission hospitals in some African countries where a fifth of the population may be infected with AIDS - some from birth - and ministry to whom by missionary doctors and nurses is unlikely to be informed by: "I don't care if you die".

Ah I wasn't aware of this happening in Africa since I dont live there.
Paying for the sins of the father.
Seems I remember reading about that somewhere.
I wonder if that still applies considering your scenario.
While we can pray for them and try to help them, I don't contest God.
God is God, he can do whatever he wants and allow whatever he wants.

I'm not sure that the task of missionary doctors and nurses is to say, in the age of the Gospel and not of the Old Testament law, 'Your forefathers have condemned you to die, and as far as our health advice is concerned, we don't care'. In order for people to hear the Gospel they have to stay alive, presumably.

There is some merit to what you say, but health advice from missionary doctors and nurses presumably includes facts about hygiene and prevention.

Agreed,
As well, if the children still pay for the sins of the father, the only way to break the chains of that cycle to be delivered from it is
Christ. Again, yes they need to hear the gospel.
But we should not forget, there is victory in death, if one has lived for Christ.

Youre probably right. But if he was going to go against your wishes and all you taught him, then having a condom is better than not. I know you dont want your son coming home with your grandkid or an std at 12.
