Although kids can get into enough trouble on their own without the parents teaching them how or introducing them to new ways of doing so.
Our job as a parent is not to teach them how to sin responsibly.
But to teach them how not to sin.
How to administer self control, to resist, what temptations to prepare and watch for and give them the tools for how to succeed in overcoming the enemy.
Which is different than simply saying."dont do it" ya know.

In the day those temptations present themselves hopefully and prayfully the child will listen to God's voice.
Just as each of us hear Gods voice whispering in our ear when the enemy strikes.
As a parent we will also be judged by God for what we taught another child of God.
I doubt God would commend on the proper use of condoms before marriage.
What did Jesus keep saying to the fornicators?
Go and sin no more.
What if we just teach them how not to sin at all so they won't have to be told not to do it again(sin no more) after messing up once.

I posted nothing against single mothers.

I pointed out a stat as to why there are more single mothers...and by the way fathers too...because daddy has been replaced with a welfare check in huge chunks of the society.

70% illegitimacy rate ain't peanuts.

I would also like to think every single parent in america would agree its not the best situation to raise kids and it should not in any way be thought of as the optimal way to raise kids.

It is a way the government has tried to redefine the family and now its promoted as some form of hero status, to be the hard working single parent.

I am not for single parenthood, ideologically. Its not the best way to raise kids.

As far as the real world goes, stuff happens and life isn't always perfect. We can't always have what bis the best situation.

It's their ignorance. Not mine. Maybe one day they'll realize that not all women who have made mistakes in the past are a welfare statistic and they refrain from continuing on that path.

My use of the welfare check was not to degrade single moms or dads but to say the government is trying to condone and create even more single parents by giving young women a way to ''have a life'' by getting pregnant and having more kids out of wedlock to get more welfare.

The government is part of the cause of this problem, not a solution

No 6 grader is mature enough to clean their room let alone enough to have sex, or remember birth control.

No six grader should date either...or 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th.......ya get the point.

If your six grader IS dating...why are they alone enough to even consider sex?

Its not the 6 grader's fault they are having sex..........ya know what I mean?

Its the Time for Christians to come out and Pray for this to go and Believing for bigger changes now and then, for it is the season where Good is testing our faith, so lets stand and move forward and say no to the devil, we can do it,,, teachers, parents, young people and leaders yes we can.. thanks for the Post SonInMe

I agree but Im sure most can admit there were many things our parents taught us that we either mocked or ignored until we learned the hard way that they were only looking out for our own well-being.

Wow...those "facts" about Welfare are not true at all. Women are on WELFARE because the MAN has left and chosen not to MAN UP and care for the children they helped make...Ugh...

...and the men do not have to step up when the government takes over....that's the point.

All I am doing is giving reasons why single parenthood is exploding and part of those reasons is what the government is doing.

Did not say it was the norm or happened in every case.

Sex outside of marriage is bad, eh?

I would say that churches need to preach about sex much much more. After a sermon series on sex and particularily the sermon on marriage, 12 couples came forward and wanted to get married, right then and there. They were living together.

The Word works, all ya hafta do is preach it.

These unwed mothers...they are getting welfare correct?

Nice move government...pay kids to have kids....smart.

Ya know before they changed the law where the dad had to be identified before getting a welfare check, illegitimacy was about 30% in african american families. Now, its over 70%. ( I use african americans as an example because they support the liberal ideologies that have created all this mess en mass. 90% vote for democrats )

The ''cures'' the world proposes only does one thing....makes it worse. Yeah you will get votes from people who think with emotion rather than common sense but isn't families and kids more important than...

LOOKING COMPASSIONATE?????????

( esspecially since that ''compassion'' is causing the poverties you think are being helped )

Wake up. There are no short cuts to integrity. No short cuts to living your life right and receiving the fruits of that labor. Stop trying to LOOK good to others, do your charity so no one can see it ( Matthew 6 ) and raise your kids, sacrificially and in God's love.

My friend, I don't question a Christian's politics. I am a white male who grew up in the deep south and live in the same area today. I have served a compassionate Lord for sixty plus years. Read Acts 2:38-47 if you want to see a working Christian Body. If you don't want the government to provide welfare and moral education to the children of this world, get out of the pew and go to work. How can a family become a Christian Family, if we never share the Gospel with them. How will a 13 year old pregnant girl raise her child in Church, or even have a chance to become a Christian, if we leave their welfare to a non Christian drug addicted family. Get out of the Pew, put some legs on your prayers, share some of your knowledge with a family in need of the Gospel.

I sorry if I come across as a bit harsh. Take a careful look at the average SBC church, and you will understand why.

I parented my children. My son and my daughter both were raised with my beliefs.

Neither are married or sexually active. My daughter is 25 and my son is 27. Neither are on welfare. My son went into the marines and then graduated from college with a degree in english.

I wasn't a perfect parent but I did not let my kids date in highschool unless they got a job and kept good grades. They decided not to get jobs...no dating.

Your yes must be yes and your no, no.

Why the heck is your 13 yr old ever alone with someone of the opposite sex? That's not a bad kid, that's a bad parent.

Not sure I want to discuss the dynamics of my stepson. Lets just say he was not under my authority and he ended up with a pregnant internet fling and a son, and a step-daughter. The good news is after 12 years they got married here a few months ago.

It does matter how you raise your kids. They influence others.

My church has loose ties to the SBC. I don't see the problem. Not sure you can classify any church as anything who is in the SBC...but I am sure you will tell us why.

.........for the larger percent this may well be true......but it is not Completely true........just saying......

Instance...........some time ago I ran into a young lady that I KNEW to be on Welfare, Food Stamps, Government Housing, and W.I.C................she had three children........stair step kids..........and I knew she struggled to get by.........

She was very pregnant.............so, I asked here why? Given her struggles, why become pregnant again? Her response?

"I need the pay raise............"

This IS NOT an isolated example either............BUT, as I said, for the larger percent it is because the guys bug out and don't live up to their responsibilities as Fathers.............wouldn't call them "men" though........'cause I don't think they are.

Know a lady who does the same thing...and she has a job.

Three babies...three baby daddies.

My friend, I am not concerned about my children or my grand children because they were raised in a two parent (mother and father) Christian household. I am concerned about the 13 year old who has been left alone by her parents, or kicked out of her home by her parents. I am concerned about the children who are living in families where one or both parents are in into drugs. Like the friend of my granddaughter who visited my home a few months ago who had never sat at a table with her family for a meal, or had ever thanked God for, and asked Him to bless her food. This was on a Sunday afternoon after the 16 year old girl had attended church for the first time.

Yes, you and I parented our children, but we are in the minority today. I asked a question earlier. As a teacher, what would you do with the young girl who told you that she had an STD, and when you contacted her parents they said "I don't care". Providing condoms to sixth graders is wrong, but if the church continues to ignore these young families (including single and absent parent), the school has no other choice. By the time the average child is 13 years old today, he/she has been exposed to more illicit sex material than most older adults have been exposed to in their life time. I'll ask you again, where's the church?

That's exactly what I've been trying to say Billyd. I don't like the idea myself but if the church continues to not do anything about it (out of expecting the government to do so)...then it is going to prove detrimental to our children. Churches should stop being scared to address the issue of sex before marriage behind the podium and be realistic about it. It's time to take off those rose-colored glasses and face reality that ignoring the issue is not reducing the amount of pregnancies outside of marriage.

I see this every day. I also see it as an indictment of the church. How do we break the cycle? I believe that the only way we will succeed is to take Christ to them, but to date, I have seen very little of that.

A big problem many people do not realize is condoms are NOT 100% effective. They do help prevent pregnancy and disease, but it has been proven they are not too effective when it comes to HPV. HPV can be transmitted from skin that is not covered by the condom, and there is no cure for this virus.
Chances are that there are people posting in this thread right now that have HPV, and do not know it because it is severely under diagnosed.

i volunteer at a middle school rather geographically close to this school district, and i can say that this attitude of "kids will have sex, oh well" is pretty much treated like a foregone conclusion. it's heartbreaking.

the sad part is, of the girls who are part of my "at risk" group range from ages 11-13, the majority have had sex, and are quite open about this--it's really not a big deal to most of them.

we desperately need more christian influence on a person-to-person level.

I kinda wonder how many of those girls actually never had sex, but say they have just to "be cool" kinda like how boys will say they have had sex with 20 females when they have never actually done it.

Elizabeth, shouldn't we be teaching young girls and boys that abstinence is the only 100% effective birth control. If they aren't prepared to become parents, they must abstain. At what age should parents began discussing sex and STDs with their children? What age should we discuss birth control? We began at 11, and that was fifty years ago. I can tell you today that we were an exception. Most children from that era were taught by their friends.

We have two problems today. Ineffective Christian Churches, and too few practicing Christian Families. I'll add one more. We live in a very secular world. Sad, but true.

How many of those people you mention are IN church?

You are always and I mean always have these situations. People are going to do stupid things and you are never going to cure or stop them.

To what degree do you want to help people? The easier you make the consequences for sin, the more sin is going to happen.

That is human nature.

The wages of sin is death. Unlimited compassion will only increase sin and I.............think..............that is not what people who worship compassion want.

The best thing the church can do is represent Christ in a loving honest way and never....condone or support sin.

Helping people...of course. The best way to help people would be proactive...before the life is destroyed by bad choices.

How do we influence the world....not sure that is ;possible.

Sure we can set up homeless shelters...many churches do....food pantires...many churches do. Many churches do plenty of charity work. Many other groups do as well. The problem is not a lack of charity...

the problem is what it has always been...lack of salvation.

You can take all of those evil rich people's monies and put it all into charity and even mission work...and all of those situation you mentioned will still happen.

Its a fallen world and the only cure is Jesus Christ...and His return.
