It is possible to fast without signs following, for the Pharisee fasted in the wrong way in Matt 6:16 to 18. Some people fast for health reasons only.

I found Crusade for Christ has instructions on fasting. Would any of you who has done it have suggestions for those of us who are new to fasting?
wisdom is paramount, in the natural always I repeat always consult with your physician first. But as for fasting food begin slow no sweets for a day then increase it each time until you can go weeks without sweets, or meats or sodas or cigarettes or whatever you are denying yourself as part of the fast same for the tv. Always make sure God has called the fast if it is spiritual renewal you seek. But you can call your on personal lifestyle fast but mainly find supporting scripture to the type of fast you are on but begin slow and always ask the Holy Spirit for direction concerning your fast.

In the Old Testament, God commanded Israel to observe several set times of fasting. For New Testament believers, fasting was neither commanded nor forbidden in the Bible. While early Christians were not required to fast, many practiced prayer and fasting regularly. Jesus himself affirmed in Luke 5:35 that after his death fasting would be appropriate for his followers. Spiritual fasting clearly has a place and a purpose for God's people today.

In most cases, a spiritual fast involves abstaining from food while focusing on prayer. This can mean refraining from snacks between meals, skipping one or two meals a day, abstaining only from certain foods, or a total fast from all food for an entire day or longer.
For medical reasons, some people may not be able to fast from food altogether. They may choose to abstain only from certain foods, like sugar or chocolate, or from something other than food. In truth, believers can fast from anything. Doing without something temporarily, such as television or soda, as a way of redirecting our focus from earthly things toward God, can also be considered a spiritual fast.

While many people fast to lose weight, dieting is not the purpose of a spiritual fast. Instead, fasting provides unique spiritual benefits in the life of the believer.

Fasting requires self-control and discipline as one denies the natural desires of the flesh. During spiritual fasting, the believer's focus is removed from the physical things of this world and intensely concentrated on God. Put differently, fasting directs our hunger toward God. It clears the mind and body of earthly attentions and draws us close to God. So, as we gain spiritual clarity of thought while fasting, it allows us to hear God more clearly. Fasting also demonstrates a profound need for God's help and guidance through complete dependence upon him.

The law of Moses specifically required fasting for only one occasion—the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:29-30; 23:27-31; Numbers 29:7). This custom resulted in calling this day “the fasting day” (Jeremiah 36:6) or “the fast,” (Acts 27:9). It was a very solemn and holy day with a lot of elaborate ritual. (Leviticus 16; Hebrews 10:1-1). Fasting, however, could also be done for other reasons. It was sometimes done as a sign of distress, grief, or repentance.

Moses did not eat bread or drink water during the 40 days and 40 nights he was on Mount Sinai receiving the law (Exodus 34:28; Deuteronomy 9:9). Jesus fasted 40 days, (Luke 4:2). Elijah fasted 40 days, (1 Kings 19:8). And God's Word has many, many, other fast acts recorded.

Matthew 6:16-18
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
[SUP]18 [/SUP]That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

The Lord Jesus doesn't say you might fast, or maybe it is beneficial. He says you will fast in just the same way as you will pray.

The flesh doesn't like being kept in check. The flesh wants to win. Fasting is probably the best way to put the flesh back in check. But its a fight. And I think its probably about time to start winning.

I like you said fasting has a place for us, but why do you think that the OT isn't scripture for us? Men divided scripture into before Christ came as a man and after, and there were certain things made perfect by that, but Christ said that He only added to the OT, didn't change it. The bible is the bible, one book, one God.
Mat_5:18 For I assure you: Until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or one stroke of a letter will pass from the law until all things are accomplished.

It is remarkable. Cause when I pray with my understanding I pray my own will don't lie and say that isn't so. But when I pray in tongues I pray the Fathers will. So you nay Sayers should thank us tongue talkers for praying the will of the father.

I use to have a friend, He is not go to the same church where I go. He is the one who teach me about fasting. When he fast, he doesn't talk to his wife or other. He lock his room and only talk to the Lord. Some time he did it for a week.

He isn't pastor, he is fisherman. But a lot of people in my town call him for pray when people sick or demon poses.

One day I visit his house, he tell about what he pray for demon poses woman. his story amaze me, how real is the devil. I ask him to invite me if this happen again. He say: don't ask me ask the Lord. He tell me to fast for a day and come to his house let see if the Lord permit me to see what is look like to pray for the demon poses people.

So I did what he advice me. And about 6 a clock when I finish my fasting I went to his house. We pray for this. About 10 minute, there is a man came, ask my friend to pray for the same woman, that my friend talking about. The man said the evil spirit come back. So we went there. as we arrive there is about 15 people there the lady in the room talking to her self, I talk to people there and ask the detail. There is a nurse there and the nurse touch her head to feel the temperature. The nurse did not bring his tool. So he just use his finger. As son as he touch her brow, he fell and unconscious for 2 hours.

The devil look so real. his power not as strong as God but strong enough to knock down the nurse. It scare some of us there. The lady said that she is Jesus from Nazareth. And she said she is not scare, she said to us to go ahead to pray what ever we wont but it will not have any effect.

Than my friend ask everybody out from the room except me and her father, because my friend promise to me to let me see what happen and I did fast a day for that.

My friend worry that what happen to the nurse will happen to other, that why he ask everybody out.

So I see what happen first hand. As we pray and sing there is power in His blood, for about 20 minute, the lady start shaking violently make the bed shaking. The power is so strong. Than I see my friend lay his hand to her her head.

As my friend lay his hand to her head, her head stop shaking but the rest of the body still shaking. Than my friend move his hand to her belly. Same thing happen the bally stop shaking but the rest of the body shaking.

Than spontaneously my friend move his hand from head to toe and said In the name of Jesus I command the spirit of darkness out from this body.

She stop shaking and ask for a drink. And I see the change. She talk normal and willing to pray with us.

Through Creation from its origin from our creator who loved us before we were and loves us eternally , Our God fashioned the heavens and the heart made all life species designed all creation with very complex designs and multi verse of functions that intertwine with each other serving to one purpose , to the prop per function of the organism , of every creature created one stands alone of its kind and its function and that is man .of every creature man stands alone in intelligence and ability even over the strongest of the beast ,and caretakers of this world . God created us to His purpose not our own His will contains no sin , for God condemns sin not the sinner for God knows his creation and what we are suppose to be like and this is why He sent Jesus the Great Sheliach of God our High Sheliach here to bring us back to the very nature in which He hallways intended .in this all there is the very sin nature which was introduced from the sin of Adam and eve , but life through Jesus Christ was introduced by the renewal of the Spirit , in this fasting is important till that which is perfect come.

I have been on a special diet for years. It started during the 60's when the hippies had special grocery stores where they sold nothing that wasn't just as the Lord created it. Peanut butter was a machine that ground peanuts. Flour was plain ground wheat. Cheese was NEVER wrapped in plastic and often had mold on it, local farmers made it. It was a gourmet cook's delight. Ever since, I buy food with an eye to how close it is to how God created it to be.

From this CC study, I think true fasting is teaching ourselves to take the feeding of the spirit as more important than the feeding of the body, but I also think my way of looking at food is a way of fasting, too.

yes to deny the flesh that the spirit gets stronger even more sensitive than ever ,even to see the giftings flow more fluently , even false servants will be exposed as the spirit will bring to open shame these false shepperds that the flock may be nurtured and strengthen fasting along with spirit prayer will edify the believer to new horizons of usefullness .to be bold witneses to God to gather in the harvest .

note on fasting it is not eating as much as fast as you can foodwise! it is eating the word eating the whole word and digesting it in a spiritual context that ushers a personal or corporate move of God in our lives .

Obedience dictates that when we mature we implore fasting's. speaking in tongues, moaning's, utterings, groaning's, crying as methods of releasing our self to God to use as we are humbled by our emptiness when we give our all to him.

Fasting connects us on a very intimate plain with God as we are connected by way of denial to our flesh which we refuse to let rule us. Fasting teaches us we can do things Gods way and get the results he promised.

It renews our focus and our minds causing us to hunger for more of the spiritual and less of the natural. By making a clear decision to deny our flesh we take charge and operate in wisdom applying Gods principles to our life. This will only cause us to get closer and yearn foe more of God.

Apostle when we STRIVE to let God work through us HE STILL DOES NOT WORK THROUGH us.... And I see that some people in Ephesians was so FILLED with God Himself that HE was the ONE SPIRIT in them all.... Is this not the Body of Christ? People that do not strive or hope or want ANYTHING for they have received it ALL!

They are ALL God, and God is ALL of them. This is what I know about people that want or lack nothing.... James says this... But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

There is only ONE true position in Spirit that this is accomplished. It is when God FILLS the man of God. Entirely fills the man of God with Father HIMSELF. Perfect men do not want NOTHING, they are perfect and ENTIRE... Now look at Eph 4: 6 and see how ENTIRE all these people are.... One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Apostle you know how much I love you and how I admire that God is working on you. I can SEE the growth in you. Pastac my friend nice to see you too. I hope you have not hardened your heart to the Truth. I cannot change the Word of God, it is as God gave it to us. I accept it exactly as it is written, and if I do not understand I ASK GOD for revelation. He is my Teacher for 15 years now, and ONLY Him.

I believe if I lack wisdom, I ask God and I doubt not that I will get it, and did get it when I needed it. If people do not receive it when I share the Truth, there is NOTHING I can do, but keep on in patience, and not be blown by all types of doctrine. The one I believe is the ONLY doctrine that does not clash with a single verse in Scripture. Not a single one! That is the doctrine that God talks about in 2 Tim 3:16. And I will soon be where God wants me to be in maturity, because HE is FAITHFUL and HE will make sure I am one of these men.... All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

OH MAY I BE A MAN OF GOD! AMEN! I love you all, and God above all else. Amen!
