We know that our church today is not measuring up to what God asks of us. It tells us so in the first chapters of Revelation when it explains the seven churches. The examples of what is wrong started at the beginning of our Christian churches, for each of those churches actually existed soon after Christ was crucified.
After I studied these churches, I spent months on the history of the development of our church in the first 500 years after Christ, and compared each doctrine brought to the church with what scripture says. Then, it is simple to see how we went from scripture to men's ideas. We need to accept that God used the Hebrew race to explain Himself to us. Then, we need to carefully go through every line of Acts to see the exact way gentiles are to be taught. We are to use the Holy Spirit now to lead us to such as circumcision, they used rituals to lead them to circumcision, as an example.
Remember that council meeting that the brother of Christ (James) oversaw? It is in Acts. It was a completely new idea in the world that people could come to God and not have to be naturalized into the Jewish race to do it and the fight about it was fierce. Remember the outcome? Gentiles could be taught the plain gospel without being told they had to be physically circumcised or adjust their diet, those things were to be taught in spirit and truth only. At the same time, they were to learn all the Torah as it was taught in the synagogues.
Because of the laws in the synagogues, they had to do certain things to be accepted there, so they were to do those things so they could go learn.
That is still the way we are to enter in to the kingdom, that is the way the church will not go. We will hear the gospel, we go that far, but like a balky mule we won't go a step further. Scripture says to put on Christ, to die to self. Scripture says that God wants us to be one family for Him. We insist there are Jews and gentiles, not united. Jews may not keep their culture and have Christ, they say. They say Judaism has nothing to do with not honoring the temple and the high priest, but Judaism is legalism. Our church now says Christ is not the High Priest as in the OT, only superior, Christ is separate from all things of the Hebrews. They say everything the Hebrews did was a shadow and that shadow was completely cut off from what it was a shadow of, it would be terrible to see the shadow. And on and on. They are wrong!!
To help us see all of this, God let the Jews be blinded to knowing the Messiah had come and God destroyed the physical temple. We cannot use rituals and physical things to replace the reality of them, the spirit and truth. We go too far with this! We toss out Moses and everything taught before Christ about Christ. Scripture says don't do this, and we are as blind to that as Jews are to the Messiah.
It is not the way of Christ, it says so in the gospels even. The seven churches explain it to us.
