J-Kay-2, I personally have never used FB, and never will. I know it can be a great way to stay in touch with people, but alot of personal stuff gets posted on there. Stuff that no one cares about, such as whether or not a person cant choose between eating spaghetti or linguine..LOL. My personal opinion is that FB is completely and utterly ridiculous and should be outlawed!! LOL JK!!Facebook: What effect has it had on your life ?

It does help me keep in touch with family and friends....But some of the posts.....wow...I think - I don't think I would have posted that but then I guess some don't care what they put out there. I try and be careful what I post as I don't want something to come back and haunt me... Plus I don't think people need to know everything about me some things are just private.
I had it since 2009 but deleted it within this past month because of conflicts with my mom. From what I have seen and experienced, it has divided families along with friendships being broken. I know for a fact when I had my Facebook, my mom would get mad when I would block her from seeing some of my posts because she would get overly concerned. Then she would do the guilt trips because I blocked her. It brought a whole mess. Eventually, I thought it would solve all my problems if I simply added my close friends from there to Skype. However, now she thinks I have blocked her on Facebook still. It is what it is. Personally for me though, I have experienced negative situations.
I think I'm kinda getting tired of FB. I have a lot if my family on it and a few friends that I haven't put on the ignore lust, but for the most part 90% of the things on FB just frustrate me lol. Also, I never realized how often people have babies until I got a Facebook account.
Have facebook and check it daily to see what's happening with family and friends, but I don't spend a lot of time on it. It's a useful tool that I appreciate for networking. I have a habit of quietly unfriending drama queens or controversial posters, so my feed is usually pleasant and informative.
I have done this ..... gone and removed those I don't have contact with.I don't use facebook very much at all. I mainly use it to keep in touch with my friends who live out of state. I don't post much on my wall at all. Most of our communication is through private groups that we have set up so only the people in the group can see what is posted.
I agree about the numbers, J~Kay~2, I don't get into the friending people so I look popular thing. I have less than 100 friends and need to go through and unfriend about half of those since we never talk to each other. I don't normally read the news feeds, I only check in with the groups I am a part of and then move on to something else.
i avoided FB for a long time because i am a very private person, but i finally gave in last year then cancelled my account after a few months because there were a few people i didn't want to "unfriend" and the thought just just seemed so mean to me. So i re-joined a second time this year and giving it another chance. Also I wanted to do it differently this time and mainly use it to keep up with my favorite bands and stuff.
I know, i'm really old school...i don't like to display every detail of my life and i don't have any pictures of me or my family...not even on my avatar. Like i said, i use it to keep track of bands and also the local steampunk group i'm involved in. That's it.
To me, it is identical to a really huge high school. Oooooooo.....Lets' check out what the cool kids are doing! Ooooooo let me show you the latest FB quiz i took! It says i'm Ariel of the Disney princesses!! I'm SO awesome! see what a great mother i am! I took my kids to the park! See how cute i am in my selfie!
I think you get my point.
I LOVE FB. I have connected with friends from 30 years ago and love hearing what is going on in their lives. I like feeling connected to people who live far away from me. I like learning about new things from my friends, I like communicating and laughing with my friends. I am careful who to friend. If you are not my friend in real life, I am not inclined to friend you. I am not friends with my friend's children, nor friends of friends. If I don't trust you or don't know you well enough to trust you I will not be your friend on FB. I am not likely to friend anyone I do business with because I tend to keep my professional life separate from my social life.
I wonder if people's bad experiences with FB tend to be the result of friending the wrong people. These wrong people may post things that some consider inappropriate and it is then easy to blame FB and not the person (people) who are saying or posting ugly, rude or otherwise inappropriate things.
I think that like anything, you can overuse it and it can become a place that is not healthy. It depends on how people use it...not on the technology or concept.![]()
