1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully.

The Law of God is two dimensional. The Law can be used lawfully or it can be used unlawfully.

If you use the Law as a means to have right standing with God you are using the Law unlawfully. But, if you use the Law as the means to define and express godly love you are using it lawfully.

Jesus is the end of the Law as a means to have right standing with God for all who believe.

Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Jesus is the end of the Law as a means to have right standing with God but He is not the end of the Law as the means to define and express godly love.

Romans 13:8-10 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,”and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

When you use the Law as the means to have right standing with God you are drawing your value and self worth in the eyes of God by how well you obey the Law. When you use the Law as the means to evaluate your position with God you become judgmental and critical of others.

Luke 18:11-13 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

Being judgmental and critical of others is a sure sign that you are drawing your value and self worth by how well you obey the Law.

When you use the Law, as a means to evaluate your standing with God, you have fallen from grace and put yourself in bondage.

Galatians 5:4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

This is what the debates were all about all throughout the New Testament. What is your motive for obeying the Law? Is it because you love God or are you trying to earn your way into the kingdom of God?

If we can truly understand that God loves us and accepts us in Christ our day to day short falls won't utterly destroy our faith and relationship with Him and we will be guilt and shame free. We will let others love God and others according to their understanding of what pleases God and neighbor.

The grace of God protects our relationship with Him because our relationship with Him is the most important thing to Him. If you love God and you're walking in love the best way that you understand God's definition of love you can't out sin the grace of God.

Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.

The Law of God defines righteousness but it also defines godly love. Christ is our righteousness so we can love God and others free of guilt and shame that is produced by our short falls. In Christ we can boldly come into the presence of God without fear. Now go, and by faith love others the way God defines love, in this our faith will be complete.

Galatians 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

1 Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.

Jesus in us, loving through us by how God defines love is the new creation.

Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

Christ in us this way is the hope of glory.

The law is better than two dimensional, it is multidimensional. It defines sin, shows us a wonderful blessed way to live, it tells us what kills, it shows us the barrier we can erect between us and God who cannot live with sin. It is everything the people say who speak against law, and it is everything the people say who love the law.

Whenever a poster uses the word "only" about God's word, you can know that poster has not listened to the Lord.

Reading Malachi to me could be summed up: We ought to give Almighty our best. Isn't that pertinent to the OP? When you truly love someone you're heart's desire is to give them your best. We know from God's Word how He desires for us to live. Who, being in a relationship, enjoys excuses rather than acts of love? To learn what love is, is to know putting someone else first, selfishness has no place. We can walk with the Creator! But we must conform to Him, He does not change.

All you did is define the two dimensions of the Law.

OK, I am not as technical as you are. How about that the law is many things, all of them true?

I still think we should never be caught up in just one truth about the law, we must accept every truth about it. Couldn't those truths be broken down in several ways including used lawfully and used unlawfully?

I think everything God says boils down to two dimensions, life or death.

It is quite an idea, but it is putting everything said in 66 books of scripture into a certain box. For instance, lots of scripture talks of how to live in this world after we have chosen life and are saved.

Then, again, all of what is said about how to live here abundantly is as absolutely nothing if we do not accept God and are saved, for it is only grace that does that. How to live well, then, is sort of beside the point, so we are back to your conclusion that the two dimensions are life and death.

Isn't that how our walk with God goes? It starts out simple, then we study for years and make it complicated, then we give up and realize how simple it was after all.

You can use the Laws for the good (like to keep the peace), and then you can use the Laws the way the Pharisees had used them.

If some people just don.t like the law today and would rather not follow it
then what?

what if some days they just dont feel like being nice and want to kill someone?

or maybe they have been good for a whole week and maybe they dissreve a little rape here and there?

or maybe they were nice to their parents all their lives now today they deserve to abuse them a little?

And why should they keep Sabbath if their whole family likes to ignore God, shouldent they be able to ignore God too, like, say, once or twice a year on special occasions?

this law business is so boring, they say

you have to be a real PHARISEE not to kill somebody every single day, I m,ean we should be able to SOMETIMES dont you think?

Whats with the law?
I mean shouldnet everyone be allowed to go to heaven?
You dont have to be a lawkeeper to go to heaven cause Jesus died for me and I can go and abuse people, i mean, I can go and push people around anywhere I want, they say.

Its just MEAn to kill me just because i like to beat people up once in a while God isnt THAT MEAN

Law breakers have a major problem. Heavenly peace would be ruined with them in heaven

they are not going at all.

this is the day of atonement
at this time you can pray and take your sins to Jesus in the heavenly tabernacle and leave your sins there

those who OVERCOME thier sins before Jesus comes back will be forgiven

those who still keep and do sins when JEsus comes will be rejected as workers of iniquity
you have a little time.

If you dont desire to do right
if you dont love the law and the lawkeeping sinless life
if you dont want to be like Jesus with your whole heart and soul and mind
if you would not do ANYTHING AT ALL including give up everything on earth to do right
if you were given another chance
and you would do it differently that is good

if you think yoyu are going as you are you will be sadly disappointed.

the rich young ruler was told
if you want to follow Jesus you have to give up everything for that privilege

and somehow the gospel has got so twisted that if you have to give up anything at all they think it is a gospel of works
there are a LOT of people that will be surprised.
a lot
Lord Lord have we not prophesied in your name and cast out demons and preached for you?
and he will say
get away from me you who refused to love to become sanctified by my power in you to be daily good and righteous

It will be impossible to keep the Laws in these times. And even in those times that it was hard for them as well.

Exodus 5:8 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’

Nice post...

The Pharisees used the Law to establish their standing in the kingdom and their value in the eyes of God. When we use our delusional ability of keeping Law it causes us to develop a judgmental, self righteous and holier than thou attitude towards others. When our value and self worth comes from the cross everything becomes a level playing field. We no longer use our delusional ability to keep the Law as the standard for others.

Very, very powerful words of truth...

Love is a neutral force that can be corrupted by what and how it attaches itself to.

PS. 119:142.
Your righteousness is and everlasting righteousness,
and You Law is Truth.

119:151.
You are near, O Lord, and all Your Commandments are Truth..

JOHN 17:17.
Sanctify them by Your Truth.
Your Word is Truth.

119:89.
For ever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven.

119:160.
The entirety of Your Word is Truth,
and every one of Your righteousness Judgments
endures forever.

JOHN 8:31-32.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him,
if you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed.

And you shall know the Truth, and the Truth
shall make you free.

Very true...

How about this...Love is a neutral force that can be corrupted by what and how it attaches itself to.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

God's Law is truth and it defines righteousness.
