Matthew 3:5) Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan. 6 .) And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.................. 11) I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:....... 13) Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 .) But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 .) And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16 .) And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 .) And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..............

The baptism by which Jesus baptizes is a SPIRITUAL event that cannot be seen by the eyes of man.......thus Jesus gave us the EXAMPLE of water baptism to serve as a WITNESS to the Church and the world that we have become blood bought, born again believers in and followers of Jesus Christ. This is the purpose of water baptism.....and this is shown by THE SPIRIT OF GOD AS A DOVE DESCENDING FROM HEAVEN TO WITNESS TO WHO JESUS IS.

Yes, I fully agree that water baptism IS IMPORTANT for every new believer...........BUT it is NOT what cleanses us of our sin, or gives us salvation.

People who preach Acts 2:38 almost ALWAYS leave out "REPENT..........." Why? Well because that doesn't fit their ideology.

It us upon repentance that the precious blood of Jesus shed on Calvary's Cross is applied cleansing us of our sins. This conversion is a SPIRITUAL event. Man (with his eyes) cannot SEE this Spiritual change in a new believers life/heart/spirit.

Thus water baptism is important, for it SERVES as a declaration by the new believer to the Church and to the world that they have become a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ...........it is a symbolic "work" (and should be the first work after salvation) of the Spiritual conversion of a new believer. This is why it is very important. Jesus said to do it, and Jesus said HOW to do it........either we obey His Commandment, or we don't..........choice is (as always) ours.

Our Spiritual burial with Jesus and our Spiritual resurrection with Jesus CANNOT be seen with the human eye........thus water baptism becomes the "visible" symbol of this event.

God bless
Repentance and baptism are two different things. Peter did NOT say "repent for remission of sins" but said "be baptized for remission of sins".

Sin are remitted in baptism.
Remission of sins = saved.
This is why Peter says baptism saves 1 Pet 3:21

In Rom 6 it is NOT after one repents he rises to walk in newness of life but after he is water baptized he rises from the watery grave he walks in newness of life with the old man of sin having died and buried.

Baptism does not save

Having love for god ENOUGH to
do what he asks
is required to know God

no one that does not KNOW GOD will be saved
To KNOW GOD means to have a total relationship

that is the only thing that saves
no matter how many tongues you speak in means nothing
no matter how many professions of faith you have means nothing

what ever you DO means nothing

it is

haveing the intimate love for God is what saves us from wanting to sin.

and Gods blood covers us and makes us his until the day in atonement when finally all our sins are forever removed from us and we dont even desire to do them anymore, and we enter into heaven.

its a test of LOVE...

1 Cor 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) , I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1 Cor 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) , I am nothing.
1 Cor 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) , it profiteth me nothing.
1 Cor 13:4 (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) suffereth long, and is kind; (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) envieth not; (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1 Cor 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1 Cor 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1 Cor 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
1 Cor 13:8 (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1 Cor 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1 Cor 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
1 Cor 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
1 Cor 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
1 Cor 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) , these three; but the greatest of these is (a deep intimate love relationship with God and love all men like ourselves) .

I won't disagree with that comment..........but let me ask.............is EVERY baptism ever done during that time recorded in Scripture? Are there baptisms that occurred that are not recorded in Scripture? Specifically, those folks from Corinth and Ephesus and the other towns were Paul established churches........were their baptisms recorded?

So, to be COMPLETELY HONEST, we DO NOT KNOW how EVERY baptism was conducted right?

:)

..........just saying......

and, again, you omit REPENT...............guess you are blinded to that part of the commandment? Just wondering........how can one read Acts 2:38 and not read REPENT?

water baptism is not for the forgiveness of sin.............let us say you are correct.........then why exactly did Jesus shed His precious blood on Calvary's Cross? If WATER did the trick then the death if Christ was of no avail...........

Water will not cleanse our sinful hearts...........ONLY the precious blood of Jesus Christ will...........and that comes when we REPENT..............and then we are water baptized FOR THE SINS THAT WERE REMITTED when the BLOOD was APPLIED upon our REPENTANCE............

(anyway, God bless ya............I have enjoyed this, but it is time for me to start my daily chores............)

This is one topic I haven't seen on this forum:

Is water baptism essential to salvation?

Does it matter how you are baptized? (Sprinkled or fully immersed)

Does it matter what is said when they baptize you? (Father, Son, Holy, In Jesus name, name of the Lord Jesus?)

To answer the question, God can save whoever He wants to save baptized or not. However, we have been told to be baptized so in that sense yes baptism is required for salvation. Paul clearly connects water baptism with participation in the Resurrection.

if you will remember as they were going into the world to preach and baptize.. when they asked if they had been baptized and recieved the holy ghost they said they were baptized unto jhons baptism which they were baptized by john. and what did they do. they rebaptised them in jesus name.. they knew it had to be done in juses name for remission of sin just like acts 2 38 says.. it a must cause with out it theres no remision of sin thats why they rebaptized them

yes and if we do believe on the lord we will believe his word, the whole word.. his word in acts chapter 2 verse 38 peter says to be baptized [but not in water!] in jesus name for the remission of sins.. its that simple that plain black and white but no matter what people choose to still say baptism is not needed for salvation.. well peter says it is. who you gonna believe peter and gods word people
Water baptism cannot be essential for salvation, because the connection of baptism to salvation is rare, but the offer of salvation only for faith/belief, is abundant. The evidence is too much to even post in one of these boxes. It is true that if you believe & eat beans, you will be saved; but the beans are not necessary. Thus, if a rare passage says Do A & B, then C will follow; yet many many passages say, Do A, then C will follow; you must logically conclude that only A is necessary. But in Acts 2:38, there is only 1 thing for a man to DO, that is believe. (Baptism is something done TO a man; not something he does.)

No passage where baptism is connected to salvation, mentions water. The Bible is clear that human works do not save (Eph 2, etc.), but water baptism is a human work. On the other hand, inasmuch as Spirit baptism puts ever believer into the Body of Christ, Spirit baptism is salvific. And Spirit baptism is not a human work (it is something that the Lord does to every Christian). Therefore, the reasonable explanation of passages that connect baptism with salvation, is that they refer to Spirit baptism.

Acts 2 follows Acts 1 where the prediction is that in not many days they would be Spirit baptized. This happened on Pentecost & is the context of Acts 2:38. Specifically the text says "be baptized in Jesus name," not "in water." This looks similar to Rom 6 where there is a reference to baptized "into Christ Jesus . . . into His death." 1 Cor 12:13 tells us that Spirit baptism puts one into the Church, the Body of Christ. The Lord Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

What must I do to be saved?
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.

If any man thus believes & does not get saved, the Lord would be a liar.
But He is not a liar.

no one will be saved without following the plan of salvation he laid out.. jesus name baptism is part of that plan. if god was cleaning fish and he says put this water over there for cleaning fish whats the water he told you put over there for?? its for cleaning fish right. if god has 2 cars a blue one and a red one and he says please get some gas for the red car whats the gas for?? the red car right? if his word says to be baptized for the remission of sin whats the baptism for??? remission of sin right???? no sin will enter heaven so with no remission of sin theres no going to heaven its as simple and plain as the nose on our face

those are to different comandments you are correct repent and be baptized it takes both actions.. it dont say just repent for the remmision of sin does it.. thats 1half of it. it didnt leave out and be baptized.. with out jesus name baptism we cant be saved. as i have said thats why they rebaptized christians that were baptized in johns baptism in jesus name.. its a must for salvation.

when john was baptizing jesus was still alive he had not yet died for our sins.. they had to sacrafice for forgivnes and then the sins wernt forgiven they were just rolled ahead a year.. now since jesus has come and laid down a plain of salvation and no we get baptized in his name for forgivnes instead of making blood saccrafice

The bible gives a full understanding of water baptism:

Mk16:16
Acts 2:28
Jn 3:5
Acs 2:38
Acts 10:47,48
Rom 6:1-7
1 Cor 1:12,13
1 Cor 12:13
Gal 3:27
Eph 5:26
Col 2:12-14

So many references to water baptism being part of salvation.
Water Baptism is a symbolic gesture that's saying that your are submitting and committing to become a new person that is starting a new life all over again, it is like being born again. But we are unable to do that by ourselves because we all are weak, only the strong can recondition us. God Just like this gesture because it is letting Him know that we are confessing that we recognize that we are sinners, but which the Pharisees had thought that they weren't blind, but Jesus had said, if you were blind, you wouldn't be guilty, but since they had said that they can see, their guilt remain. That is why God break us down to humble ourselves from being arrogant. Everyone must go through the water; Noah was the first to take his generation through it to start all over again, and Moses has brought the descendants of Abraham through it as well. But they were still unable to keep their commitment to God. And so the earthly water doesn't save us, but the living water does and that is the Holy Spirit (The word of God).

Ephesians 5:26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Scripture speaks of God doing what man cannot do. David wrote the blessed is the man to whom God will not impute iniquity. Paul wrote the God made Christ to be sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

When we rightly divide the word of God with the Holy Spirit to guide us into the whole truth we find that baptism is not only water. Water baptism is in bible but so is Holy Spirit baptism. John the Baptist saw Jesus and gave the first sermon on the difference between water baptism and Holy Spirit baptism. Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to the apostles and disciples in the upper room before Pentecost.

If you labor with this doctrine I suggest that you remember that salvation is by grace not by water baptism. Grace not works. Water baptism follows genuine Holy Spirit conversion but the Holy Spirit conversion is the essential element in the new birth which produces eternal life in Christ.

If you are saved you must depend on what Gods word says and trust only on Jesus Christ as your Savior. You cannot trust church dogma or water baptism for your salvation. You cannot trust your own feelings or your own deeds only th efinished work of Christ on the cross of Calvary.

For the cause of Christ

yes he does and that when you receieve the gift of the holy ghost just as acts 2 38 says. being baptized in jesus name is for forgivnes of sin.. recieving the holy ghost is baptism of the spirit.
