Although I am not a supporter of the RCC, I am a supporter of truth in journalism.

In full context the Pope is speaking against this new concept within Christianity that our walk with Christ is between us and him only outside the fellowship and accountability of a local congregation of believers. Paul spoke to this same issue in Hebrews 25.

Pope Francis described as "dangerous" the temptation to believe that one can have "a personal, direct, immediate relationship with Jesus Christ without communion with and the mediation of the church."
I am really disturbed he said this. I know now not to follow this man's teachings at all.

We are adults have to decide what to believe when we read the media. If you decide to agree with what he said that is your right, and if you disagree that is your right too. I believe in freedom of speach even for the Pope. I personally disagree with his opinion but not his right to have an opinion.

He is a leader - you would assume he as a leader would lead people the right way. Especially when it comes to God. As a representative he surely should understand taking the word of God and using it to his own discretion certainly is something that no one should do under any circumstances. He is just a man, a supposed to be man of God.

This is why I find it hard to get news from christian sources. If it isn't on a secular site I have a hard time believing it when Christian sites simply re-post what other sites contribute, often not in the entirety.
It's like people WANT this pope to be the antichrist.
Hang on a second, I think what he said is being taken out of context. Now unless he said 'catholic church' then that would be different. What he is saying is true, a lot of people run around saying I don't need the church, all I need is Jesus, which is false. Now he probably is talking about the catholic church without saying it but the overall message is 100% correct. It is dangerous and unnecessary to think you don't need to be apart of the church, you lack accountabilty and the devil will chase after the sheep that is on it's own.

Yes he is saying that we shouldn't feel as if we don't NEED to go to church but then he says this....

Why would having a relationship with Jesus outside the church be dangerous and harmful?
This is what he could have said:
Some believe that they do not need to go to church because they can have a relationship with Jesus at home - although going to church will strengthen your relationship with Jesus.
God made the Earth in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested. The 7th day is a holy day - a day of worship. Which one should take the delight in attending church.
His statement seems critical. His lack of encouragement to attend church (making out as if you have a relationship with Jesus at home) is wrong.
Maybe he meant to say this. But then again he is the pope. He shouldn't have to make people think that they are doing something wrong by not attending church.
His closing statement:
Remember being Christian means belonging to the church. First name Christian, last name church member.
What about talk about how we have the spirit of God inside of us? Or possible how Jesus died for our sins. Oh wait, we belong to the church, not Jesus or?

Found the speech this thread is quoting. I agree with Pope Francis, no shock there, but most are right that he is speaking of a personal relationship outside of the Body of Christ. That's dangerous and could be harmful.
